  1. Best advise - rent for a month and use the time to find long-term residence. Car taxis are expensive. Motorbike taxis better but... Buying a used motorbike is the best low-cost option for transport - IF you are comfortable riding and understand Thai driving culture.

  2. i think my favorite is in front of Jomtong Homemart on Jao Faa East, there is a big sign advertising 'Willy toilet partitions'

I just noticed that one the other day... and yeah, I did chuckle to myself!
  3. For Universal Channel, Syfy Universal, Fox Crime and all the english language news channels (BBC, Bloomberg, Aljezira, Asia News Singapore etc) I use Indovisions excellent online guide AND its the correct time. For sports (Astro and Eurosport) I use AstroTVs website (Malaysia) - BUT - remember to subtract an hour!

  4. Stupid simple question... The place where I dropped of my dry cleaning last time I needed it (about a year ago!!) is no more :(

Where can I drop off dry cleaning in Rawai or Chalong?

BTW - I know I can go to Big C, Patong, or Phuket Town!!

  5. Driving/riding up and down sois in your desired location is the only thing that's really worked for me! Shouldn't take 6 months though... Mine: 2 aircon bedrooms; huge aircon loft; full western kitchen; 2 bathrooms really bright and large, one with whirlpool tub and boiler; 8m accordion glass wall opening to 4m x 10m oxygenated pool, all on 1.5 rai of lovely landscaped yard with real bermuda grass and a view of Chalong bay. Gardener and pool guy included: 25,000 baht/m.

  6. Can you imagine shop owners in the UK giving the police money for doing their job? Does that mean that the police give other people money when they don't do their job?

Yes, in the west no influential businesses or businessmen ever "donate" to police benevolent associations or other police "charities". Also rewards are never offered in the UK - what a utopia!
  7. Just seen there are plenty of hotels in ranong.... So, any benefits of staying there or at andaman... Guess if I stay at andaman I can leave my car in the car park .... Much going in at night in either place?

No night life. I'd stay at Andaman Club.
  8. Can you please provide the circumstance / info on how you obtained Thai Social Security and Health Insurance.

Work permit and a job should do it - I had my yellow and purple card when I was workin'...
  9. Weird... I've been wondering where this shop went to myself. Don't need them right now but they were always fair when I needed them - fast, reasonable price and always seemed to a little extra than required without charge (last time I was there they fixed my loose rear license plate bracket for free while getting a puncture repaired). If anyone finds them please post!

  10. The wan tackles the real issues on phuket unlike the gazette that has 3 news items and 1000's of ads.

Without phuketwan, you would know nothing going on if you relied on the gazette and news.

The wan is a single-minded rag with an obvious bias of pushing property/resort owners interests - no better than the rest in its reporting and the editor is sooooo far out there I'm amazed he can report on anything happening on earth!

  11. ...you see a negative post/experience about buying veg at Villa. I see a positive post to me, and many others, about how to avoid that scam. The glass is "half full." You just see the negative post as whinging, moaning or complaining, I see the benefit behind such a post. Many are learning something new here everyday. Another positive. smile.png

Scam? Didn't yer mom teach you not to buy overpriced, cello/paper wrapped veg - you had to learn that on an internet Forum? huh.png

  12. Just imagine for a minute that it was your son or brother that had died and how you would feel reading flippant posts about his death.

With the screen name TexasRanger you should be aware that the internet thingy is the epitome of free speech - good taste is not part of the equation... I, for one, couldn't be bothered what random peeps on the net had to say about me or mine.
  13. 20-22 April is the new date for Phuket bike week, gives you some more time to get the repairs done.
Frig!! Thanks. Seems the phuketbikeweek.com website has different dates on the main page and the "activities" page!! TIT!! Should be good to go then!! Please ignore OP or not!

  14. Hi all! My bike is in for mechanical repair and won't be ready for a bit due to sourcing bits outside Thailand :(

Looking to rent a bike for bike week (April 6-8) 'cause hanging around bikeweek on a scooter's kinda lame! Prefer sportbike but cruiser OK. I know all the usual suspects so I'm poking the community here for any off-the-wall suggestions.

    Fire away!
