  1. All good info for the OP but I have a question... Work permits are VERY SPECIFIC in where you can work. Forming a company and acquiring a WP doesn't seem to solve the problem of wanting to perform at different venues/bars... or are there different rules for farrang holding WP as entertainers? I can foresee a scenario where the OP is performing and "takes work" from a Thai performer who then informs the authorities - the WP has ONE SPECIFIC ADDRESS ONLY where the WP holder can perform her work - how does this help the OP in working randomly around the island?

  2. Those that ponied up for High Def boxes before the WC seem to be fairly pissed.

Those that ponied up for high def just have to turn down the volume on the TV and feed english commentary from the internet OR from Astro on cable into their sound system and voila - high def picture with english commentary. Simple.

Any bar in Rawai/Nai Harn with Rawai Cable (not sure about KPP or Phuket Cable) get english commentary on Astro Supersport (its channel 26, I think).

  3. Only jeweler I'd trust is Pierre Dimitrov, o/o of D&D Jewelery, located near Bangkok (Phuket) Hospital. He has been in possession of most of my wife's jewelry at one point or another and NEVER an issue. Also good guy to acquaint yourself with... He is French-Russian, designed for Cartier, and does the best custom jewelry work on the island bar none. He can be reached at 0817970788. Good luck.

  4. Hi Blink. There is only one person on Phuket I would recommend for this type of treatment: Brian Kendall, Registered Massage Thereapist, Canadian. Specializes in deep muscle therapy for sports and trauma. His shop is called Tranquility and is located an Soi Sai Yuan in Rawai. He can be reached at 0862770795. Call him and talk about your issue - I'm sure you'll be happy.

  5. Hi. I am suffering from some mild liver disfunction and have had blood work and an ultrasound. I have been given a choice of the following two doctors and was wondering if anyone has had experience with either one of them.

    1. Dr. Jirasit Thawornbut - Bangkok (Phuket) Hospital, Phuket

    2. Dr. Teerha Piratvisuth - NKC Institute of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Prince of Sonkla University Hospital, Songkla, Hat Yai

Any relevant comments appreciated, thanks in advance.

  7. Quick thoughts.

Stay near the Skytrain. Cabs are easy - just call 6-DAIL-CAB and one shows up wherever you are. Call the driver "uncle".

Cheap but nice accoms in a very interesting part of town with organized walks (food walks, architecture walks, pub crawls) can be found at The Bettle Box.

Do the Zoo, Night Safari and Bird Sanctuary.

The Hippo Tour is fun if you've never been (much better than the river tour). Its a chop-top double-decker tour with live guide.

Shopping's great if you're into that.

Culturally the National Museum of Singapore, the Asian Civilizations Museum, the Singapore Art Museum and the Science center are worth the cost of admission.

And you can go to the casino of course.

Sentosa and the big wheel don't do much for me...

    Have fun!

  8. The sympathizers and pot heads have missed the point. Trying to compare pot and alcohol is stupid. Regardless of which is the worst or what your argument is, alcohol is legal and pot is NOT. There are plenty of warnings about drug possession here in Thailand. To ignore the warnings is pretty stupid.

To ignore the warnings is STOOPID!!! But to fully know and understand the risks and to choose to live your life factoring in the risks and your ability to mitigate risk and maintain discretion is the way some have chosen to live their lives. For some of us it has been a 40 year long drug-fueled odyssey without any confrontation with members of law enforcement... To each his/her own path... One Love, Y'all!!

  9. Used to hit the Han Chef up in Chalong regularly when we lived up there a couple of years ago... If we take the car we can usually find a place to wedge it in nearby!!!

  10. Slightly off topic, but I thought the only reason hemp was made illegal was because DuPont invented synthetic fibre and wanted hemp taken off the market globally.

Close but no cigar... Dupont invented a process to pulp trees into paper much more efficiently than the previous process which was a labour-intensive method of refining hemp into paper... being good capitalists, and well connected in the upper echelons of US political power, Dupont moved to eliminate any competion - hence the criminalization and demonization of cannabis.

most of the west has NOT decriminalized Cannabis, including the good ole USA, Australia, Europe, Canada etc etc because it is a dangerous drug.

The reasons for the original and continuing criminalization of cannabis have absolutely nothing to do with it being a "dangerous drug".

  11. Bet they get turned on and only flash yellow for traffic on Wisit and flash red for those coming from Sai Yuan. I don't think they'll go fully operational (and if they do it'll only be for 24 hours!!) - just another pocket-lining project IMHO...

  12. Yeah, the one on Sai Yuan. Sorry my wife (the wine drinker) has informed me its 65 baht for a glass of wine. A Tiger beer is 60 baht. Limited menu (all farang food) but what they do they do very well.

  13. Couple of thoughts...

U.S. jails are way over-full and they're building more at an alarming rate BECAUSE PERSONS CONVICTED OF SIMPLE POSSESSION CHARGES ARE GETTING JAIL TIME LINKY Lets not be hypocritical here. There's a big majority in middle america that are not down with the loosening of marijuana laws...

Me and my cadre of friends have all been habitual (addicted) marijuana users since our early/mid teens. We are successful, professional people with families and responsibilities... subjectively we seem to have succeeded better in life, love and enlightenment than our coke and alcohol using (addicted) friends... BTW none of us have gone crazy, switched to meth, beat our wives, or lost our fortunes... go figure!!

Does anyone else think that "Richard (Dick) Beaver" sounds like an interesting pseudonym for someone not in possession of a passport? Although the beaver is Canada's national animal there are only 21 "Beaver" families listed in the Toronto phone book (out of 2.5 million listings)... Sounds like a grift to me...

  14. no probation for farang. usually deportation after fines and time is done

Probation for farang is a regular occurrence... stay out of trouble and community service (regularly giving blood will do)... only a completely rude idiot would get jailed for this "crime".

  15. But the OP specifically asked why locals living here have that view ??

The OP is a troll and is well known to TV for stirring up the 'locals'. You are all being strung along.

By post 2 it was obvious that the thread was trolling by an alter-ego of happyinkathu or whatever-the-heck his screen-name was/is... how it got these legs is baffling... :):D
