Good for you. Fortunately I've never had a hospital stay in Thailand. My grandkids have and I pay extra for a private room. But for the average Thai it's a bed in a multi ward with a carer under the bed.

In my experience in public wards in hospitals they not only stay , but sleep on the floor under the bed. Buy food too if available.

I spent a few sessions with a girl from a bar in soi Nana a few years ago. 40 years old and not bad looking. . She told me she wanted 40 K a month as well as a HIV test to do anything serious. For the sake of 10,000 baht, jump on a plane and go to Chonburi/Pattaya, book into a cheap hotel for a couple of nights and put the feelers out. Alternatively login to Thai Friendly'or Thai Cupid or Badoo and have a look around. Stop stressing and go, you might find a diamond in the rough just cruising around.

Seen (and done) a lot of drinking and whoring, not so much fighting. Drug abuse, possibly, but I don't recall having to watch where I am walking to make sure I don't step on discarded needles. All of the above isn't exclusive to Pattaya by any means. Can be, and is, found in most big cities anywhere.

Hate to the be the bearer of bad news. I drive all over Isaan, including Sisaket, Surin, Buriram, Ubon, Khon Kaen for some example. I use my phone to Bluetooth Australian radio from their internet sites to my car's entertainment system as all the local radio stations are Thai, unlike in Bangkok and Pataya where there are some English content stations. Never had a problem with the mobile network. Continuous coverage everywhere. Network or internet dropping out simply doesn't happen or is so rare I have never noticed it.

So predictable it is boring.
