  1. The virus can replicate in fully vaccinated people, albeit, for a shorter period of time. Thus, travel hoops will be useless in the future for containing any new variants, as it can be evolving in any population, in any country. As I said, in the future, it will be accepted that everyone is vaccinated, possibly from birth, thus, no hoops. Of course, I am not talking about 2022, but some years into the future.
  2. Do they? How do you know? Surely unemployment, or reduced salary due to covid, knocked out many from their annual holiday to Thailand. How do you know this? Not all expats have burnt their bridges. I have no doubt also. ???? I already know a few that are not prepared to jump through the hoops. I suggest they are in the majority, not the minority. I disagree. Eventually, possibly as new born babies are vaccinated for covid, like they are for other diseases, it will be accepted that basically everyone has been vaccinated, so no need for paperwork. Of course, that's some years away, but the paperwork will not last forever.
  3. COVID = C = Chonburi O = Obvious V = Victim I = In D = Discrimination ????
  4. I hope they don't go on a hunger strike in protest. Then again, some could probably do with not eating for a while.
  5. I was under the impression your main customer base would be freight trucks, not passengers. Once again, do you think a truck can do a return trip, by road, for cheaper, or more expensive, than 36,000 baht? I would have thought the answer to this question goes directly to the success, or otherwise, of the venture.
  6. I agree. The nightlife will be smaller, and the focus of the nightlife will move, but there will still be nightlife here. There will not be enough "paying" tourists to sustain the high rents on Walking Street for quite some time, most likely around 2 years. Also, the Soi LK, Tree Town, Baukhao area is now in direct competition with Walking Street. Unless the Thai landlords on Walking Street have a reality check, and compete with the cheaper rents being offered elsewhere, I can only see vacant and derelict buildings remaining, and more closures of businesses that did survive, on Walking Street in the future.
  7. They may be desperate to get away for a holiday, but that doesn't mean they are desperate to jump through Thailand's hoops. You do realize a lot of people were unemployed, and burnt through their savings and credit cards, just to pay their bills. Do you think they have money for a holiday? True. Let's see if enough of them return to sustain bars going back onto full rents and full expenses here. In any case, not all 65,000 applicants will be coming to Pattaya. They will be spread across Thailand. Why wouldn't most expats be like you? I know a few that were here when their home country was in lock down, and then when Thailand went into lock down, they returned to their home country, most of which were coming out of lock down. They will return when Thailand is out of lock down, which is in the near future. They are expats, not tourists. Another reason why many tourists will not bother coming back to Thailand until entry is as close to pre-covid as it can get, and it's not at that stage yet.
  8. Good point. An FTA with Thailand is not worth the paper it's written on.
  9. Has he bought the hotel and moved everything to that site?
  10. Last time I looked, Thailand was set to reach 70% vaccinated by late November, so they should allow bars to open on the 1st December. That said, the Delta variant has seen many countries opt for 80% and above before opening up.
  11. Does your extractor fan also have a light on it? Does the light work? Are the cookers / burners electric? If so, are they working? Just wondering if the extractor fan and cookers are on the same circuit and simply tripped the breaker.
  12. I Googled "Jacobs Creek Chardonnay Australia" and seen it for sale in this shop in Australia. https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_31405/jacob-s-creek-classic-chardonnay It may or may not be the bottle you have purchased, I am sure they make many, but it's going for $7.95AUD in Australia. Xe.com has $7.95AUD at 190 baht, so at 666 baht, which is $27.80AUD, that's quite a mark up.
  13. Is that what they call, "living the dream" here? ????
  14. I was thinking more of the transport companies, not private users. Will it really cost truck companies 36,000 baht for a return trip, including salaries, fuel, maintenance etc? (large trucks)
  15. True, and this way, you can always ensure you are driving the latest model. ????
  16. I agree, but always best to go on your own terms, rather than being pushed.
  17. Yes, it's 27 baht for the wine, and 1 baht for the cooler. ????
  18. Total cost to the company for the journey if driving. Of course, there is also vehicle maintenance, but that's also carried out by 300 baht a day Thai's. In other words, will it be cheaper for the company to drive, or to get on the boat.
  19. I disagree. Before TAT targeted Russian and Chinese tourists, who were the main tourists coming to Pattaya? It sure wasn't western families or coupes, or backpackers.
  20. I concur. Also, I'm wondering if this price point is cheap enough to get trucks onboard. Given the drivers are only on 300 baht day, would they really use around 12,000 baht of fuel for the journey?
  21. It will be interesting to see if the majority of the first mongers back to Pattaya will head to Walking Street, or LK Metro.
  22. Let's not forget the Thai inflation that targets farang here. Eg. wine tax.
