  1. There's no insurance against a Thai girl that is "different" who ends up being "same same." ????
  2. No. It should never get to that stage, regardless of how "different" you think your Thai girl is. ????
  3. Thanks for the clarification. I thought it was all the same business.
  4. I'm aware of the branding, but the furniture is ex-Retox, and so is the manager, and I dare say, so are the TV's.
  5. Yes, and one must also know when it's time to revert to Plan B.
  6. I think it fair to say the cost of living in Pattaya / Thailand has risen a lot faster than pensions from all around the world.
  7. I never suggested his actions would influence and decisions made by authorities, but the headline "Farang business owner on hunger strike" written in Thai's, for Thai media, may get some interest, with their attitude being, how dare any farang protest in such a way, hence, a loss of face.
  8. Any idea how the bank values the property, before they issue the mortgage?
  9. Out of interest, how much deposit is needed for a typical mortgage here?
  10. All too late by the time police arrive. You are up for 20k baht. We all know what Thai's are like. Money today, don't care about tomorrow. I doubt they care if they lose customers because they suspect it's been a staged police raid. Especially if the bar is closing down anyway. We all know the covid laws around selling alcohol at the moment. Why take the risk? It makes for an expensive drink if caught out.
  11. Yes, and should anyone or anything try to change that, the Thai military step in and restore the natural order of things for the establishment. Thus, the Thailand we have now, will be all Thailand is ever going to be, despite other emerging economies progressing quite rapidly. It's a shame. Thailand has a lot of potential, and all Thai's should be able to share in that potential and wealth, but it's not going to happen.
  12. Exactly. The cheapest junk policy for $50,000 USD that basically covers nothing, and definitely covers zero, if you haven't disclosed pre-existing conditions. It's only a crime if you claim. The policy document is worthless, except for gaining entry into Thailand. The Thai's got this one spot on. ????
  13. Interesting. I would think such actions, if picked up by Thai media, would be sailing very close to making those in power here lose face, and we all know there can be nasty consequences for that.
  14. Lucky the report said "in a lagoon" and not "in a body of water."
  15. I hope you wife makes a full recovery. No one is saying that people who have alternative medical insurance are Cheap Charlie, or similar, for not wanting specific insurance that is required by the Thai government. I think it's only a matter of time before annual insurance will be attached to extensions. I know this upsets a lot of people, but preparations should be made for if / when this happens. If that means you have to resort to your Plan B, then that's the way it will have to be. The Thai government couldn't care less about time in country, assets held here, and community ties, including family.
  16. Fair play. There have been reports over the years that the going price of a life here is 1 million baht to the surviving Thai family, and an unknown amount to the police, to have charges disappear. I doubt that would be the case in high profile and premeditated murder cases, but for driving drunk and killing someone, or assaulting them and they die, the price of life in Thailand is around 1 million baht. Everything has a price in Thailand, even justice.
  17. It's only becomes a criminal offense IF you make a claim. Is it? It's an insurance policy. The fact that the insurance company may not, or will not pay out, may be irrelevant for the purposes of entry into Thailand. Wrong. Travel insurance can be purchased for months and months. Sure, but the ground is shifting under our feet here. I expect insurance to be a requirement for the retirement visa / extensions in the future. if your objection to insurance is so strong, I suggest you start looking towards your Plan B, as I am sure many others are now casting an eye over. Wrong. With the stoke of a pen in Bangkok, all the money you have contributed can be easily dismissed. Not to mention, many may not even be able to reside in their own house / condo here in the future. It's one thing to own a property here. It's another thing being allowed to stay here and live in it. You'll do what the Thai government says you will do, or overstay, or leave. They are your only options here. You are in the wrong country for equality. Not only for foreigners living here, but just look at the inequitable society for Thai's.
  18. Sure, but with such a corrupt police department and judicial system in Thailand, the consequences for talking a life with a bullet here is vastly different to many other countries.
  19. I don't think the land beneath tin roof beer bar complexes was actively being sort out for development, putting busy bars out of business. Tin roof beer bars had been struggling for the last few years, pre covid. As another member says, the tin roof beer bars have a historic place in Thailand's hospitality industry, so I hope a few stay, if for nothing else, so the next generation can see and experience one. Perhaps in 10 years time, the ones that are left standing may become somewhat of a tourist attraction in their own right.
  20. So, I guess you are giving private hospitals in Thailand the thumbs up. ????
  21. And for the rest of their shift they went around collecting tea money. Just another day at the office. ????
  22. The people going to the music festival will be safe, because bars are closed and no alcohol is being served. ????
