Brexit has cracked Britain’s economic foundations
Tropposurfer replied to webfact's topic in World News
Brexit ... a major coup for the jingoist fascist right .. just ask the ultra-nationalist (neo Nazi in a pinstripe suit) Nigel Farage what he thinks of that 'win' for his sick jingoist beliefs. -

Female Thai Student Attacked On San Francisco Bus
Tropposurfer replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
From the shocking rate of gun (the worlds leader by far - with the exception of active war zones), and other socialised violence in the USA, it might not be an unreasonable thing to consider the entire nation a dangerous place to be in. Considering the rise of the fascist insane right in that nation which, led by an ex President no less, in concert with one of the most powerful news (?) agencies on the planet has arguably given both credence to and permissions to execute all manner of racial and political violence. Wouldn't set foot in the US even if you offered to pay me to do so. -
The reference by the BBC to the importance of the relationship between theTWO nations is very poor journalism at best. The issues at hand here, as Zelensky said to the US Congress yesterday is for the entire world to face down and to vanquish. Why? Because, as Zelensky correctly stated in his address it is about the defence of freedom and democracy, and the defeating of the age old forces of extreme right, ultra-nationalist, religious cults, fascism, and despots ala Putin and others (no matter how flawed democracy may be).

Navy Slammed Over Missing Sailors, Sunk Ship
Tropposurfer replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Maybe some of the AN mob can shed light on this; The photo I saw of the ship listing heavily as it took on water before sinking was a decent section of the hull plating was simply missing on the starboard side (I think the photo I saw showed the vessel listing heavily to port?). As a sailor, literally since being in nappies, and open ocean cred and some nautical smarts, I fail to understand how in a reasonably rough but certainly not horrendous sea a steel naval vessel delaminated lie that. -
I had a similar issue in around 2012 on a tourist visit. Mine was short swim in a chlorine pool - NOT a washing machine prolonged exposed cycle to cleaning agents, and severe agitation in that solution like your was! I was told by the Aussie embassy (face to face meeting and examination of the passport) to renew it via their diplomatic courier service (I had a 60 day tourist visa issued in Oz) as the holographic and other data stuff embedded in the ID pages were somewhat corrupted (they had difficulty reading it and it kept dropping out when being read) and if I arrive back in Sydney with this passport and it fails to 'read' entirely by the auto-machine then hand inspected and hand-machine scanned by the Immigration officer I could find myself in a sticky situation ... Even though I am an Aussie citizen and had other Aussie photo ID on me! I'd contact the Brit embassy, take your passport there, and have them check it to see if its truly corrupted.

immigration | ˌɪmɪˈɡreɪʃn | noun [mass noun] the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country: a barrier to control illegal immigration from Mexico. • the place at an airport or country's border where government officials check the documents of people entering that country: the airport has long queues at immigration and baggage reclaim. (Oxford Dictionary, 2022) The second sentence is relevant to your query, assumption, idea, of the word immigration >>> Signed your friendly AN pedant ????????

Unless someone is a refugee, or seeking asylum for political reasons I am unaware of any nation that allows people to simply go there and attain permanent resident status or citizenship as a natural matter of course, simply because they gain access, reside in that nation for an extended period either by default or by simply making an application. ('possession being nine-tenths of the law' so to speak, and that simply being there invoked some power of influence on conditions of stay). Such confirming of status-change is purely discretionary by the government of the day ... always, and rigidly enforced and made systemically difficult for reasons known to Immigration Departments all over the world. I am also unaware of any nation I have visited that automatically designates visa status as anything other than a non-immigrant/visitor type status allowing one to residing at the discretion of the government of that nation for a finite period. I know if no nation that bestows permanent residency or citizenship because you work or marry someone. Go try and marry a foreigner as an Australian and watch the convoluted and painfully drawn-out process of being able to even have your wife or husband actually live in the country with you other than for temporary tourist visa, heavily regulated, AND I.O. checked during the period of stay (especially if you hail form a nation that is profiled as 'high-risk' for absconding or other nefarious actions once in-country), leaving aside permanent residency or citizenship pathways (this takes many many more years, sometimes decades). Well, unless you fit into a very narrow and deliberately constructed criteria e.g. age, white/Caucasian (yes this is the actual reality - still), rich, able to invest considerable amounts of money into the nations economy, hold a skillset e.g. doctor, engineer, builder, plumber etc.
-
Its pretty bl@ody obvious as to whether its worth it or not ... depends on how much you spend in-country e.g. go buy thousands of dollars worth of clothes, shoes, jewellery etc and walk past the VAT at the airport and be a right dill for doing so. Buy a lousy 30 bucks worth of stuff then think claiming the VAT percentage back is a valid idea ... WTHeck!!!!

Can she live in Thailand legally ?
Tropposurfer replied to Delight's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I ask myself knowing the little but reality and truth of LOS what happens that a falang woman marries a Thai man and expects anything else but to be used, cheated on, and abandoned. Same same all over LOS for either falang marrying Thais and or Thais marrying Thais. Cheat and adultery is a national cultural pastime. And people decry falangs as philanderer, butterfly men!. -
Enjoy the retirement mate, you've earned it ???????? You can get insurance until death despite being 69! Premiums for underwriting will cost you more but for a top Platinum level cover compared to e.g US or Australian costs for medical treatment its cheap if you need it and you WILL need it somewhere along the line. Pacific Cross in BKK can source a great policy for you until death. Yes you will pay at least 5K for one. My advice as a retiree here is get cover. If you call Pacific Cross in BKK they'll help you analyse policies with little pressure to sign up and have their fingers on the pulse of every underwriter - reasonable to best quality. REMEMBER IF YOU DO TAKE COVERAGE MAKE SURE THEY ARE; ACCEPTED BY THE MAJOR HOSPITALS IN LOS AND GLOBALLY (IF YOU TRAVEL), AND WELL RESPECTED AND PAY-OUT. Cheap rubbish underwriters can be refused in LOS just like that !! so do your homework. Don't listen to anyone who says; 'you don't need insurance, and say stuff like; 'just put a hundred thousand dollars, or few hundred thousand bath aside for any medical needs you have'. Remember mate you are aging and as you do you will need to increase your medical treatments and preventative checks etc. I'm covered far better than I was in Australia for a similar ball-park price here and its wonderful. I can go to any private clinic anywhere or the best hospitals and pay nothing - not a cent for any treatment. I'm a very healthy fit 66 year old, and certainly no hypochondriac (I know one of two lol ????) but I use my coverage regularly, check ups, dental cleans and work, periodic colonoscopies to avoid bowel and prostate cancer (which kills a heck of a lot of men worldwide and as a man past 50 you need to have one every 2 years unless symptoms begin in between this timeframe of course), dermatology for the skin cancers I have from my active life outdoors in Oz, even chiropractic (which I was never a devote of - certainly not regularly anyway). So far no prescription needs for me so pharma component is not used much ... YET! Coverage of quality allows you to get the best of everything, to attend private quality hospitals of your choice with surgeons-of-choice if you ever need one. Cheap Charlie coverage does little to zero for this by the way. You have worked hard, have more than enough to take out a solid policy, and you deserve the best of care. Good luck in your choices.

It is the number one played sport in the world I believe. It was a great final and befitting that it went to the wire like it did. Two superb teams deserving of being there ???? I loved it ????, we had some friends from around the globe (French, English, German, Ukrainian, Aussies Canadians, Italians, Thais) at home for our Cup Final Party/viewing with a cracking Aussie BBQ dinner before. We all enjoyed it immensely. We had French and Argentinian jerseys, noisemakers, and fireworks after the win ... it was epic. I'm an Aussie but I love this game. If you've never been to a game in Europe you gotta put it on your 'bucket list'!!

If this Jack Smith guy is as sh!t hot as they say he is then there are more-than-likely a whole bunch of Senators, Governor Generals of State's, Governors, House or Rep's members, lawyers, media personalities, Ginny "Im Crazy as a Loon' Thomas, perhaps her husband(?), members of the Secret Service, White House Staffers right up to and including Meadows, business people (dark money, and open funders) scared witless. Personally I hope they get every last mothers son of them and lock them up in Federal prisons for decades each. Beginning with the Traitor in Chief Trump.

Kevin Spacey faces 7 fresh sexual assault charges !
Tropposurfer replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I actually met and worked on a film with him many years ago and let's just say as a young, fit man I learnt (was advised by older folks on the crew) very quickly to make sure I kept arms length from him at all times and never to be alone with him.
