  1. My GF tells me that Thai gold fetches a small premium overseas which would also suggest exporting is restricted. I mean if you want to take gold abroad to take advantage of the premium it stands to reason that it isnt allowed.

Can you ask your GF, if that mean selling jewellery items or selling scrap gold contain.

If someone else like your necklace / bracelet i understand Thai price are good, with low craftsmanship cost add on it and he / she could buy it for more as what you paid for.

If need to sell the gold in pawnshop / jewellery as gold contain, that nearly impossible, Thai gold have a different content, the proceed to extract the gold will be to costly and specific.

My personal experience, i got a ring done in Bangkok, i bought a stone in Chiangmai, and i went to see a friend jeweller in Australia asking to put it together, he told me ok, but will be illegal because the ring will not be stamp for tax.

Can you make money selling items to private . YES

Can you sell Thai gold scrap overseas. NO

Can you use thai gold to do a new jewellery overseas. Yes & NO

  2. Buy from the carpark, that strange when you do visa run ? first why not buying from the no manland ? second never buy 2 cartons from the same seller, buy one (hide it and later on buy a new one) or easy buy at 7-11 eleven.

Don't break the law in Thailand, and you rarely get hasseled as said Saram

Do not act if you over the laws

  3. Jetstar is fine; Its only a 90 min flight so who cares about blankets/food/drinks

Also check the rpice of Air Asia and Tiger for the same route.

We not talking about comfy / full belly and free drinks here !

We are talking about orphan ! dismantle bodies parts who need a DNA to puzzle them together (if they bother)

    And NO REFUND !!!!!!

  4. Budget airlines are often never on time

Either they are often not on time OR never on time; can't be both.

At least Jet* has Aussie pilots, and without being arrogant, they are the among the best trained in the world. I've flown for a number of airlines, and with pilots of many nationalities, but none are even close to Australians, Brits and Kiwis. It's all in the training!!

I try to ensure I travel with Australian, British or New Zealand carriers; there are none better up front.

If you want to get on-board, have a well maintained bus, a well trained pilot, pay for whatever you need for the 8 - 9 hour flight (take your own Vegemite sandwiches), you will be fine.

Don't make the mistake that others make, that by paying significantly less you are going to get similar treatment to SQ, QF or TG on a similar routing.

I've flown Jetstar about 5 times and have no complaint whatsoever.

I've also flown Air Asia X from KL to Melbourne and didn't think they were nearly as good as Jetstar for a similar product. Then again the total ticket price was about A$140 including all tax's on an Internet special.

Wouldn't contemplate Tiger in any way no matter what the routing, they have a s__t reputation in Australia.

hope both of you were not in this plane

Jetstar plane 'came within 38 feet of hitting ground'

  5. OT but hope peps don't mind. Taking gold bullion (not bullion coins with a currency face value - I mean ingots) out of Thailand - any constraints regarding Customs? Found info on bringing in - but not out. Again, excuse me and ta for help.

Just make sure what you buying here have the same gold content as the one from your own country, it will be nearly impossible to sell otherwise.

the proceed to extract the gold will be to costly and specific to do.

Taking out of Thailand sound ok, enter into a other country have regulation attach to it i presum.

  6. If they want more tourist they should devalue the baht. I live here and its getting too bloody expensive. They just dont have a clue.

You got that right. Wife and I just came back from our first trip to Vietnam; 10 days for Tet. Everything was cheaper, except clothes shopping than Thailand. There are more international food restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City than Bangkok, they pride themselves in having strict laws against harming foreigners, easier immigration/ work permit laws, and even my Thai wife was amazed and wondered, "what the hel_l we doing staying in Thailand?!?!?!?

First I'll start out by saying you're wrong. I lived there for 4 1/2 years there and Vietnam is total crap. There are way more int'l restaurants in Bangkok than hcmc/hanoi. They have more laws there, period -- it isn't about protecting the foreigner (if you get hurt, there's nothing to protect you and all you'll get it "oh, sorry!") I'll take freedom over suppression (bkk vs. vn) every time. Don't suffer from travelers lunacy -- you went on a trip and saw what you wanted to see. Thailand no doubt is deserving of more and more criticism these days and I don't refute that, but I can tell when a guy sees things through his "traveler goggles", as is your case. VN sucks!

Before the mod close this topic, let me said Baguettes in Vietnam are very nice, spring rolls are more tasty AND the coffee beans you purchase at the market are D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S

  7. Mini buses run from Victory monument to HuaHin bus station, at least 2 an hour. 180bt. Not sure about your dog, but shouldn't be a problem.

A Bangkok taxi will take you from anywhere in BKK to HH for 1500 baht (Bargaining required) + 50 baht for the dog - Pranburi I would estimate 1700 baht.

There are a number of taxis in HH who will take you back to BKK for the same price.

Yes, i done that Bangkok to Pattaya once, nice taxi and driver, been good to him for the fair and tip, but he could not get me back and i got strand in Pattaya with no decent taxi wanting to take me back, in the end I got a old car with a bad aircond, who break done middle of the way!

It is why i am looking for both way, will give the good tip at the second run !

I just message a driver suggest by a member, waiting to see what happen.

  10. i got my bathroom tilled wall (bottom to ceiling) PLUS the floor tilled as well, was not in the rush, two around 10 days, cost me for labor 4000 baht, can tell you in Australia it cost me a lot lot more to get a trdeman doing tilling.

But you can do that in a day or two not two people on the job for two weeks !

No, do not agree, i done properties in australia as well, floor to ceiling + floor and shower

one day , hahaha two day haha

  11.
Remember labor is cheap in Thailand so its very possible to fix these up.

True, but the productivity of each worker here is low so where one man would do the job i a western country you would need at least five of them here, so in the end the difference in cost is not all that much.

  12. The old corrections museum is an interesting visit. You get to see a some wax models depicting an execution, which should warm the hearts of some TV people. The condemned man gets a garland of nice smelling flowers, so that makes it special. :)

The prison cell wasn't as bad as I had expected. Alcatraz was a more depressing visit.

Is the corrections museum in Maha Chai road ? is it the Remand Prison mention by the opp.

i never see any activity on the ground of Naha Chai road

  13. I did try to visit this place. I was passing in a taxi one evening and said to my wife I would like to come back and look at that.

The next day we got a taxi and we got there after a lot of driving around, Only to find when we did arrive the Museum was Closed.

We walked in the grounds and it was clear that only about 10% was still standing. So I don't think i missed too much.

If you do get in, Report back. I would be interested to know what I missed out on. can't say I looked over the road so I don't know about the goods on sale there.

Please read my post, post number 11

only 10% of the standing building and that IS the museum, nothing else, just a park.

you did not miss anything, i saw the back of the 10% building facing the side road, nothing in the back then

Years back, the two shops were with items from jails prisoners, only one have furniture perhaps that is gone as well...

ok to see (10% of the building) and the park if you there or around this area (sapanlek / the old Siam)

you did not miss anything to my knowledge
