  1. It's typical Thai quality, but Nakhonchaiair's website will reveal their timetable given a bit of work.  Booking online is possible but not to/from intermediate points like Pattaya but the staff in the office are usually pretty helpful.

That description was incomplete but you are free to believe what suits.

Maybe you misinterpreted part of it but the solution offered seems to be the easiest and most reliable.  Another solution is below for O2 UK users that may apply to other networks too.

O2 can switch mobile data off and on for you. Surprised they didn’t tell you that. There isn’t a USSD code for that AFAIK.

I think I can do it from the app which seems just as good and easy as a USSD code.

It seems Wise has different routes for money below and above 50,000 baht, and also for money that needs to be reported as “from abroad”.

If below 50,000 baht, it’s pretty much always instant, above 50,000 baht and it may take a little longer (although can still be seconds), and money “from abroad”? I have no personal experience, but this is probably where the “two bankdays” can happen, i.e. normal bank settlement standards.

It was 50,000 THB but appears to have changed a little while back to 100,000 THB.  First screenshot shows seconds and the next one Tuesday (Thai holiday on Monday).

I do agree that in this day and age, a company looking to take bookings should have a proper website rather than a Facebook page.

Perhaps, as a fairly new company, they have one in the works.

They do, and have had for a while now.  Unfortunately, as Hammerman has indicated, it isn't seen as a priority.

You have only addressed mobile data. Mobile data and data roaming are normally 2 different settings. Using a UK sim in Thailand would be a case of data roaming.

If your phone does not address data roaming then you may well have to look at something else.

If mobile data for a particular SIM is disabled then it will not connect whatever the roaming settings for that SIM are (I have roaming enabled).  That is the optimum solution I can see as setting a SIM as the data sim does not stop the other one from using data, as described in the thread I linked to.

It appears from NextG's post that O2 can do that for me, but using a code as AIS do would be so much more convenient and gives the assurance that a change in the settings doesn't.

  6. OP shoiuld not rely on settings to get what he wants and using the code is safer IMO.  Going in the other direction for me I experienced what he is trying to avoid and get over it as described in this recent post:

I must look to see if there is a similar code for O2 UK to disable data as it would be more convenient than my method, but it was not brought up when I spoke to them about my issue.

My best card is currently Halifax Clarity, but still easy to clock up charges.

This Global card appears to offer rate of the day and money is taken from the account in the same way as a debit card.

I too have a Halifax Clarity and it's easy to avoid charges too, or keep them to a few pence.  My concern with the HSBC product is the "rate of the day" is determined by them so may not be as good as the Mastercard rate you get when using the Clarity card.

Only a test will tell for sure.

  8. How old are you and do you have any pre-existing conditions?

For a comparison, my UK issued annual policy last year was less than £40 GBP.  Worldwide cover except USA.  Declared one pre-existing condition (no loading) and in my 50s.

yes indeed - the lens makes a huge difference to cost, anywhere in the world.

Can you give an approximate amount for the different lenses to give an idea of what to expect?  A local hospital in the UK offers:

    • Monofocal – corrects either short or long sight, with a choice of three focal points
    • Toric – a monofocal lens that helps correct astigmatism (a problem with focusing)
    • Multifocal – corrects both near and distance vision, like varifocal glasses

    Are there any others available?

Isn't that part of the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital group?

I then wonder why so cheap, because at BPH it's 110-120k per EYE

There is some link between them but I'm not sure of the details.  The thread it was discussed in mentioned an initial check being done at Bangkok Pattaya (maybe they had the required  equipment?) before the surgery at Jomtien.

  11. I'm planning cataract surgery (one eye only) soon and recently noted this pricing in a thread in the Chiang Mai subforum.

    Quote

Bangkok and Ram quoted me 120,000 baht.

Maharaj Nakorn quoted me 80,000 baht

Princ hospital Lamphun total cost 16,500.

Another option I've seen mentioned is Jomtien Hospital offering a special deal of ~40,000 baht.

Yes, and no rent reduction during shutdown and continued to pay and feed the staff.
