  1. Runaway inflation. And hollowing out the manufacturing base. I think we are the last generation to retire comfortably—although to do it, some of us had to came here.
  2. Money by itself doesn’t make me happy. But having money opens doors in my life.
  3. Book economy seats, then upgrade at the gate to the mid-range seats—wider with lots more legroom. Some airlines will sell the upgrade for cheap, online. Sure beats 12+ hours in coach.
  4. Interesting point—the locals understand “America” better, probably because we’re known as Americans. Too confusing for a Thai or someone in any other country when you label yourself an American from USA.
  5. Does he really think that story gives comfort to the citizens of Maui? Back to your vacation, Joe.
  6. China opens an average of two coal-fired power plants per week. They don’t seem to care about global warming.
  7. Exactly what I saw in a Bar Street restaurant, a few years ago. Table next to us had eight very ugly Chinese young men. They kept getting updates from an attractive well-dressed Chinese woman. Sure looked the start of a wife-buying scheme.
  8. Good points. At least Thailand can and will export rice, rubber, durian, etc.
  9. Maybe it’s time for Customs to step in. They do a pretty good job keeping western products out of Thailand. And here’s an idea for Bank of Thailand:—let the Baht ease up some more. No need to defend it, if you want to compete with your neighbor.
  10. Not always. 1st wife had trust fund income, plus large assets. After she went through all her money—she came after mine via divorce. Thai (2nd) wife had few assets, but so much better for me. No regrets.
  11. Thanks for the story. Isaan wife and I spend most of our time in Isaan. But when rice harvest finishes—we’re off to the coast. People seem much friendlier here in farm country.
  12. Thanks for the link. Here’s the final paragraph: “If Weiss negotiated the sweetheart deal that couldn’t get approved, how can he be trusted as a Special Counsel?” Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter. Furthermore, the SC cannot indite—without approval of the AG. Likewise, the SC cannot stonewall an investigation—without the AG’s approval. Looks like Garland’s DOJ totally in charge.
  13. As long as the Oversight Committee keeps uncovering wrongdoings unimpeded—the SC can continue its investigation. But this sure looks like a stonewall.
  14. Send them back home—-where they came from. Common sense should prevail.
  15. Debt is a way of life in Isaan. We try not to loan money, except for emergency situations, and even then, we don’t expect repayment. It’s more like a helping hand/gift.
  16. In my Isaan village, and the ones nearby, we have girls that go to college, work retail, get factory jobs, government jobs, food industry, farming, and yes, some go to work in the bars. Not much difference between them, in my view.
  17. I’ll take Gulf of Thailand anytime—no hurricanes, typhoons, twisters or tsunamis And very few sharks. Costs far less, too.
