Recommendations for a few days stopover in KL
my friend I replied to grain's topic in Malaysia General Chat
Brickfields is nothing like Little India in Penang. It's just a few restaurants really. The attraction is as a transport hub. Trains are a much better option to get around than taxis. Drivers can be a hassle and traffic is always bad. -
Recommendations for a few days stopover in KL

Brickfields aka Little India. Bus or train to and from airport and anywhere from there. It's the main station for local and inter city trains. Wide range of hotels and restaurants. Fair bit of road traffic. Chinatown. Interesting just walking the streets especially in the evening. Can get crowded. Some tourist sites like Old Market. Some excellent restaurants and ok hotels. -
Jim's Place Penang
my friend I replied to beejoir's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
No, long gone. If you are going to Penang the water will be off for 96 hours January 10 to 14. The pipes are old so that period may change. -
IS THE DIGITAL ARRIVAL CARD REQUIRED FOR EVERYONE? If you are Singaporean, you need not fill in the form. Malaysia long-term pass holders, those with Brunei common identification certificates and holders of Thai border passes are also exempt. Foreigners who do not fall under the exemption categories must submit their digital forms within three days prior to arrival. There had earlier been confusion over whether the digital arrival card would apply to all travellers, including those driving from Singapore or those opting to use manual immigration counters at Malaysia's land checkpoints. A grace period is currently in effect until Dec 31, allowing foreigners to complete the form upon arrival at Malaysia's international entry points. From Jan 1, the form must be completed within three days before arrival.

Anyone Malaysia's Immigration Department said on its website that all travellers are required to submit their Malaysia Digital Arrival Card before entering the country, except those transiting or transferring through Singapore without seeking immigration clearance. Permanent residents in Malaysia and Malaysia Automated Clearance System holders are also not required to submit digital arrival cards.

Siem Reap in February--what to expect?
my friend I replied to heybruce's topic in Cambodia General Chat
Rents are inexpensive. There have been very few foreigners around since the high season. That may continue due to long distance air fares. Some real bargains for long term stay, even one month in a hotel. Local foods are about the same as Thailand but you get a much bigger serve. Baguettes are 25 cents. Most baked goods are cheaper than Thailand. Anything imported can be quite expensive but there is a lot available. You may need to take out a bank loan if you want butter on the baguette. Comes from France. If you get the app transport is cheap in a pass app. Most tuktuks charge reasonable prices now. -
Siem Reap in February--what to expect?
my friend I replied to heybruce's topic in Cambodia General Chat
I was concerned about getting lost in the crowd at the sunrise. There were only a few hundred people. A few tour groups showed up mid mornings. The biggest problem was tourists wanting to have their photos taken with my friends who were wearing traditional Khmer clothing. The other sites had hardly anyone. -
Siem Reap in February--what to expect?
my friend I replied to heybruce's topic in Cambodia General Chat
I avoided staying there for years but some friends wanted to go for the eqinox sunrise at Angkor. We stayed on Taphul Road. I couldn't believe it was Cambodia. Street in perfect condition, no dogs, no garbage left out for days, no karaoke. Lots of hotels at different prices and good places to eat. We didn't go anywhere near Pub Street. If flying in the ground transportation is a bit of a problem. A van is USD 38 and a seat in a 12 seater is USD 8. Try to bring ten dollar notes. They seem to have a big stack of unwanted US dollars to hand out. If going to Mount Kulen avoid the crowded weekend The haze is nothing compared to Thailand -

Cambodia: e-visa / on arrival visa
my friend I replied to mixmediana's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
Taxi to Siem Reap USD38 Seat in van USD 8 Try to have ten dollar bills. Or Exchange in Changi now has Riel. Much better option to pay -
You enter Cambodia on an E visa which is for 30 days. After three weeks approximately go to a visa agent for example in Phnom Penh, Call Kim, Marany or Lucky and ask them which visa suits your needs. Probably be the EB _EOS. They are good and reliable agents who can get things done. You can get the E visa on arrival or in advance online which costs a few dollars more If you want to phone one of the agents most Khmer seem to use telegram or whatsup

No blanket ban on photography inside Angkor Wat
my friend I replied to geovalin's topic in Cambodia News
APSARA National Authority has issued a notice to national and international tourists that APSARA Authority does not have any ban on taking photos or videos for personal memorabilia or tourism to promote art and culture. Still, for business advertisements, a permit is required. Khmer times -

That's fair enough. There are plenty of local professional photographers there anyway. We just went for the equinox sunrise holy day. Hired a guy. Good result. Beautiful around there in wet season -

Khlong Yai Border Checkpoint
my friend I replied to FARANG KIWI's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
There is so much stuff near the crossing its difficult to see things. I usually go through there as quickly as possible. In the fore ground of that photo you can see some pushcarts. They are always overloaded and can be a real hazard -

There isn't really a busy time. Khmer kids go to school on the Thai side so after school a bit of traffic but it's nothing major. A bus with tourists arrives from Sihanoukville about 1 .30pm. Delivery trucks from Thailand show up mainly mid morning. Sunday is a quieter day unless there is a group of casino goers. There are two windows in the Khmer immigration office. One for Khmer and Thais and one for others. The others usually has no one.
