  1. Not busy usually. There is often a Khmer helper there. Handy if you haven't been there before. They are good guys unlike at other crossings. The Khmer immigration guys like to ask for extra fees. If you are going beyond Koh Kong town the highway 48 is becoming two lanes. They are doing the entire highway at the same time. It has been a very wet rainy season. The road is very rough. The road going north kind of towards Battambong is even worse.
  2. I've been in Kampot/Kep for a week. I thought it would be difficult to find a room as it's European vacation time and usually busy. The first guesthouse I tried only has two rooms rented and that is to permanent guests. They rented one other room through August. Going around the district I only see people who are long stayers.
  3. People I know who buy online buy from small sellers who advertise online, Facebook, etc. They send, usually free delivery, with Virak Buntham which is a delivery and bus company. When the item arrives at the local office someone will phone you to pick it up. Some places the bus and delivery office are the same. Other places they are separate. I have seen some small Virak Buntham delivery vehicles going around town. You may need to be a very regular customer to get that service. Post office has a similar service EMS that doesn't seem to be as popular.
  4. Is that New? AFAIK it can be extended once for 30 days. blockquote widget
  5. Not so much about the need to work as an easy way to get a visa. Someone who can speak English would be in demand in many places in Cambodia. Many Thai words are the same or similar to Khmer words. I spend all my time with Khmer and picked up the language easily. Cambodia is a fairly small country and easy to get around. Worth having a look at different places. Battambong excellent food. Kampot very good hospital.
  6. Long stay multiple visa is easy if you are over 55. Takes a lot to get a retirement visa if under 55. Best to get an experienced agent. Work permits are fairly easy. I know someone who is supposedly a bar maid. She seems to be absent almost everyday. She's 31.
  7. Getting value for money for long stay rentals would involve going around looking for a place you like then spending time seeing what goes on in the area day and night. Someone I know found the perfect place only to find out the nearby army base blows the bugle three times at 5a.m.., 7,11,2 ,5 and 9. There are some good value places that include everything, electric, water. I would say it's a buyer's market now. Very few foreigners here.
  8. It's the Singapore model. One party state, son takes over from father, controlled media opposition are jailed, banned, etc
  9. You would think RFA etc would get over losing the war. Have a go at Afganistan. Oh, wait. Sad.
  10. No hotel booking required. During covid there was a requirement for visitors to stay in certain hotels. Not now. Phnom Penh has a very easy, quick entry. Bring undamaged USDs for visa or get one online.
  11. I've edited this From channelnewsasia.com Couple driving from London to Singapore in 12-car convoy: These are 'stories I can tell my grandchildren' This August, Jeremy See and his wife Sharleen’s Singapore-registered car will begin a 100-day trip across 23 countries with a S$110,000 budget. In August, they will embark on a journey to London, where their Singapore-registered 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser 4.6L V8 was transported a month prior. Over the course of 100 days, they are prepared to cover 25,000km, passing through 23 countries as they make their way back to Singapore. See shared three key considerations to ponder, aside from the obvious financial aspect, before embarking on such an adventure. Firstly, one’s love for driving must border on obsession. He shared how he would embark on a nine-hour journey to Hat Yai solely for a meal, without spending a night. Anyone suggest where this might be. I'm guessing not the railway restaurant.
  12. No. But the airline you are boarding may . I have never been asked by anyone. Flying from Bangkok they usually say you have to stay one day in Cambodia i.e. you can't go straight back to Thailand. No problem for you.
  13. Central Market area is a good place to stay. It's kind of the old Phnom Penh. Near Sorya shopping centre is Street 81. Lots of guesthouse on that street and nearby. Also off street 130 is Happiness Inn 1. Another good area is the streets south of Orussey market. It's quiet at night. Market worth a visit. Has everything you need. Also street markets mainly food there but not near the hotels. Hotels in this area are about $10 and up in high season. If having trouble communicating ask for Capitol Bus office. It's low season now. If you look on one of the hotel booking websites you can get an idea of what's available. Many hotels are 50% off. I wouldn't book though because you may find next door is a construction site. Noisy and dangerous.
  14. AFAIK the priority is completing the southern and north east lines so could be some time Years.
  15. Those places are in Thailand nowadays. Consider posting in the Isarn forum for information.
  16. Mail service doesn't really deliver. The post office will just hold onto it. Unless you put your phone number on it. They will phone you. You will go to pick it up and you tip them maybe 1,000. Otherwise use something like DHL for international or Virak Buntham Express logistics for local. Virak Buntham are also a bus company. The offices are usually separate. Same deal with your phone number on the outside.
  17. 21 Current affairs Politics Saturday, 24/6/2023, 09:11 (GMT+7) The National Assembly agreed to raise the e-visa period to 90 days After being granted an e-visa, within 90 days, foreigners can enter and exit an unlimited number of times, without having to go through new visa procedures. On the morning of June 24, with 6 out of 470 delegates present agreeing (475.95%), the National Assembly passed a bill amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Exit and Entry of Vietnamese citizens and the Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam. The e-visa period will be raised from 30 to 90 days. The Government shall decide on the list of countries and territories whose citizens are granted; The list of international border gates allows foreigners to enter and exit by e-visa. The law also allows citizens of countries unilaterally exempted by Vietnam to be granted a temporary stay of 45 days (previously stipulated for 15 days) and be considered for issuance of visas and temporary stay extensions according to regulations.
  18. According to my Thai friend the 14 days for a Thai can be extended for 30 days. She did it with a Sihanoukville agent for $55! Next time went to Sophea agents in Kampot. Near ABA bank. She can't remember how much they were going to charge but it was less. She hired a motorbike ininfor Kampot for $5 and $2 fuel and went to the Vietnam border. In Phnom Penh try Marany agents on 51 street. Should be less cost. It may take two weeks.
  19. I didn't explain this properly. Storm hit the internet. Sheryl to the rescue.
  20. I went to see a Thai friend but she is out. Will try again later. AFAIK Thais get a free visafree entry for 14 days. Going to Cambodian Immigration isn't the same as in Thailand. They prefer you use an agent. If you were going near a border e.g. Kep, Kampot you could just go over the nearby Vietnam border. Either turn around and come straight back or stay in Ha Tien for a few days. Nice town 6 kms from border.
  21. Sorry. Slight technical problems. I can't see why the evisa would be an issue. It should be valid anywhere.
  22. If you get the ER visa for 6 or 12 months it is multiple entries. On the visa stuck in the passport it says Entries MULTIPLE Issue Date.......
  23. Even with USD it can be whatever they say. Since covid they seem to be making up for lost revenue
