You will not be able to get a re-entry permit with a still valid multiple entry visa. You can only do that after the visa has expired (or in the case of a single entry visa been used).

Incorrect. O-A ME first entry May 2018. Purchased single RE permit August 2018. Out/in Dec/Jan 2019, permit to stay May 2019. Out/in April 2019 for 2nd year.

But breaking the law and risking deportation and being barred from returning is probably not the best approach.

    Agreed but as stated...

I wasn't planning on leaving.....though over the last decade I've spent considerable time with hill tribes. Keep in the good books with the headman, you might get to expire up there in twenty years; with no one any the wiser.

Thanks for your support...NOT! The "good side", pffft.... let's just divide and conquer then shall we; I'm alright jack, tuff luck for you. I'm sure our hosts will be clapping their hands together over that.

It's O-A holders who believed they were doing the right thing getting shafted here.

  3. Just to put the cat among the pigeons; the Canberra Embassy (Australia), is saying the insurance must be purchased from Thai insurers and both the policy and certificate will be required, to be issued the visa.

So no cheaper policies from the home country allowed then? That's what it's saying!

"In addition to the existing required documents, visa applicant for Non-Immigrant Visa “O-A” (for retirement long stay) must furnish a completed “Insurance Certificate” as attached, as well as an original health insurance policy. A copy of the health insurance policy may only be accepted, provided that the applicant purchases the health insurance from participating Thai insurance companies as listed here http://longstay.tgia.org/."

  4. I got the app from Google Play Store from a link here on TVF, along with 90 day report app link in the same post.

Both apps accept all of the data, the 90 day has an issue with conflicting TM6 data. I've emailed the developers:- [email protected] Awaiting a reply.

From @ubonjoe response it won't accept it because it only accept post today's date not pre; i.e your last entry.

They told me that I would not get a one year stamp but instead it would be a stamp up to the day of my expired visa date

I think you need to check the Elite website, PDS and give the reps or a manager a good questioning. Perhaps a quiet talk to an IO in an immigration office.

My research shows different. PM sent.

I suppose I need to spend half a business day sorting this out in person due to their mistake?

    Q. When you came back to Thailand and put address 1 on the card; did you go and report at the office as well?

Once you receive a "report to office" msg, trying to input other data is useless; as you have already been breached/ locked out of the system.

Until the data matches up on the system you cannot do online.

Just go to to the nearest office and rectify the lost/misplaced/incorrect data entry for your TM 30.

Yes there was is some mistake; but to suggest it is "their" mistake would be drawing quite a long bow.

Not sure what you are on about. He wrote this in his post.

Not sure why  you are quoting the requirements on the immigration website.

He showed well more than the minimum 40k baht income required.

Fair enough @ubonjoe; I missed your previous responses and @Carolina Reaper explantions, and the bit about being offered a retirement extension.

Why would they offer him a retirement extension when he went to do one based on marriage.

Apologies to all involved for any angst caused.

  8. 1 hour ago, ubonjoe said:

He clearly wrote he went to immigration to apply for an extension based upon marriage with less that 65k baht income. No mention of a need the income or money in the bank you did. Immigration offered a deal to it based on retirement and he took the bait.

Also that is not a official immigration website and has a bunch incorrect info on it.

This is the only official immigration website. https://www.immigration.go.th/index

Let's play semantics then. Your mate is telling porky pies!

    https://www.immigration.go.th/content/service_18

    (5) In the case of parents, the father or mother must maintain an average annual income of no less
than Baht 40,000 per month throughout the year or must have deposited funds of no less than Baht
400,000 to cover expenses for one year.
For other necessary cases, the Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner of Immigration Bureau
is granted the authority to make decisions regarding approval on a case-by-case basis.
    (6) In the case of marriage to a Thai woman, the alien husband must earn an average annual income
of no less than Baht 40,000 per month or must have no less than Baht 400,000 in a bank account in
Thailand for the past two months to cover expenses for one year.

A friend went in for marriage extension with just under the 65,000 a month coming in. They took him into the head IO’s office who proceeded to tell him he could have a retirement extension for 15,000 baht. Returned the next day and had his wife plead little money and was told 12,000 baht is okay. He didn’t want to play their game, but his wife said, “Easier this way.” So he did it at a cost of 1,000 baht a month for the year. All handled smoothly and quickly without 800,000 baht in the bank. He said the senior IO proceeded to explain where the money went.....lunch for the staff, payoff to boss from BKK, and I guess the rest in their pocket. TIT. This could be a way for this fellow to handle it all without an agent. Full service in house, and probably available all over the country.

I think your friend is telling porkies about the Bht. 65,000/800,000 for marriage extension. Good try though!

    • You must give proof that you have at least 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account in your name, and that it has been there for at least 2 months).
    • Or, you must prove that you have a monthly income or pension of at least 40,000 baht per month (this can be done though an affidavit from your foreign embassy or.
    • Or, have a combination of the money cleared in a Thai bank and an annual pension totaling at least 400,000 baht.

As I thought, click-bait. Anyway, my extension isn't due for renewal until March 2020, and if a week is a long timr in politics, 5 months in Thai immigration time is like something approaching eternity. Ha!

I like your thinking and attitude toward this, similar to my own. It was my intention to get an extension when the second year of my O-A finishes next April. So if what's being talked about here turns out to be true, that extension will cost me close enough to one million baht, with the money in the bank+health insurance. Nah, to rich for my blood.

Wasn't the money in the bank supposedly a surety against having health insurance? Wasn't it aledged to be one or the other? Nothing like having your cake and eating it too I suppose! Four months to decide whether to make a deposit; an eternity!

Still all this hullabaloo is bound to get things back on an even keel after all that's gone before it; the Agent & IO communities can relax and all will be well with the status quo. Fare thee well, long live Big Joke.

Okay, thanks. I might do that. I assume the process of extending the 60 days to 90 is similar to the visa exempt method.

You don't need to specifically use the embassy in Canberra for a Tourist visa; only an A-O.

Tourist visas are issued at all Thai Consulates in capital cities. I've been getting visas by mail for a number of years using registered envelopes to do the job both ways.

I live in rural CQ; a visa application posted on a Friday morning to either the Brisbane Consulate or the Embassy, always saw my passport returned by the next Friday.

  12. Arrived CNX May 2018 O-A ME. Was under the impression re-entry permit required to not lose visa when returning from trip back to Oz for Christmas.

Expecting to be stamped in for another year; but was stamped in until the end of my first entry. Questioned IO....

Was informed a re-entry permit overrules visa; I had made the choice to keep my original trip by buying it. He also reiterated the second year would be effected by border hop just prior to expiry date. And so it was.....

Current ninety day report app; issue with TM 6, report to office. NO; revert to online! Approved✓

Let's get organised for next one.....TM 6 app; won't accept Flight No. Arrrrgh!

Is anyone using the Chonburi Immigration app to do extensions yet?

Can't wait to see what a two in one will do....amazing Thailand. I'm sure it will be interesting.

    I thought retirement extension requires 800,000 = $27000

unless has gone up in last few days and I’m not aware of that.

Retirement extension is the best option (out/in without any problem) for someone at your age if the fund is available. there is no 100% guaranty for entering the country by other visas.

You're obviously equating durian with lumyai if you think Aud.$27,000 will get you Bht. 800,000.

My last tranfer I got Bht 20.6-Aud$1.00. Not complaining, just telling it how it is!

Can the OP not get a Non-OA then he could leave the monies in Aus and if he times it correctly, be done with Visa hassles for 2 years.

Due to the fact the OP wants to return regularly to Australia this info probably won't help him. Maybe it can help others!

O-A ME's will still be doable from Oz for anyone wanting to go back and renew every two years only; thereby avoiding the monthly transfers or money in bank.

Travel insurance is available from the link for approximately Aud.$1200 for two years cover. The original policy can be renewed for a second year immediately after purchase. This is not a multi-trip policy and more than covers the requirements. The only drawback is a return to Oz before two years is up will void the remainder of the policy.

This is the 90 days report app. It works.

Correct.....it is the 90 days report app. Glad it works for you.

Had 90 day report due on 1 October. Had app installed, registered, showing status ready to go......get error msg:- "TM 6 issue, please report to immigration office."

Not to be put off, went online and reported for fifth time, got approved in four hours, printed out and it's safely in my passport. So from my experience, I'd say the app is still in beta mode.
