  1. Not saying you are wrong. I just asked for a Tax ID there years ago and they provided it. I was probably when I had the PE visa or visa exempt. Never worked in Thailand and never been a a so-called "tax resident" of Thailand by their definition of 180 days I think things tax wise will be changing dramatically for the worst next year. I think they want to drive a certain demographic out. My plan B has become plan A for sure.
  2. Well, I have filed that return for years. The people at the Revenue office never asked how many days I spent in Thailand.
  3. 「any income received from overseas sources, remitted in the year it was earned, direct deposits of pension payments etc」 What if I do not spend 180 days per year in Thailand an am by their definition not a tax resident. Will I have to report these foreign sourced income streams? I do not spend 180 days a year in Thailand or any other country.
  4. I had one of these classic Samsonite clamshells many years from early 1990s (finally broke) The clamshells can possibly open during transit too many people used luggage straps in case of Checking bags is a mugs game these days I avoid at all costs Especially to and from Thailand. Too easy to unwittingly become a drug mule. If everything works out one newer knows, if authorities find the dope your life is ruined.
  5. Get you now thought we were talking extending duration of visa waiver to enter Thailand BTW I don't think there should be any visas or barriers to human movement. As long as foreigners follow the rules and do not become a public burden we should be able to stay where ever we like
  6. eh? Japan passport visa waiver to Thailand is 30 days. https://site.thaiembassy.jp/en/visa/type/9792/
  7. I think it will be much worse than people imagine but personally trying to not freak out about that yet but First, I don't spend 180 days in any country in a year. Even during covid I never did a 90 day report. #constantinternationaltravel
  8. Apply for a tax ID number at your local Revenue district office soon In January ask for the Tax withheld document from your bank File a tax return in 2024 Then as long as you are entitled to a refund should be able to get the tax withdrawn returned by mail/cheque in a few months.
  9. Are you enrolled in the Global Entry program? There are international arrivals at TBIT (Tom Bradley International Terminal), Terminal 6 and Terminal 7 also. The departure gate face scanners are popping up at more airports. I saw a passenger recently arguing about refusing the facial scan at the departure gate agent told him it was an airport requirement. I think they let him on without it. As biometric/facial scan technologies becomes more widespread seems like a pointless protest. Airports are filled with surveillance cameras I was more concerned at SFO when I saw black suited armed officers "screening" people with a dog before they got thru the security check line. I put screening in quotes because it was more like they were threatening them with the animal. They had set up a channel within the line using the post and rope stanchions and the agents were yelling at the passengers to move thru two by two. It really looked like something out of Schindlers List. Some people are terrified of dogs, especially large working breeds.
  10. They took out all the older Global Entry Machines where you had to scan passport and touch keys Replaced by no touch Global Entry kiosks that scan your face only, and fewer in number. Why? Now they are rolling out an APP you scan your own mug on your mobile as soon as you land. *But a few years ago ICE goons would approach you angry that dared to use your phone in the arrival hall. 555 https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry/global-entry-mobile-application#:~:text=The Global Entry Mobile App,at Global Entry approved sites.
  11. Little guy was quite an improvisator.
  12. 5 minutes to 3 hours (First day after Happy New Year arriving about 8AM)
  13. Did Anutin graduate from Medical school? I have a relative who is a MD Doctor and has a Mph (an earned Masters degree in Public Health from a real University)
  14. Learned at an early age approaching celebrities to ask for autographs is très gauche Ex when we saw Kevin Costner at the bar in Aspen and nobody was hounding him freaked out "Just a guy trying to enjoy his vacation while waiting for a table in the dining room or maybe he has a house here honey"
  15. Most likely in my opinion China will be "biding it's time" for quite a while In a best case scenario to annex Formosa CCCP must utterly destroy the island then inherit 25 million mostly hostile people grown up not having been fed CCP propaganda for the past 75 years. This is after the PLA Navy and Air forces take a severe drubbing. Worst case the world is destroyed. All this for National prestige? Remember Xi and any successor leaders primary motivation is continuation of complete one party dominance. I think continuing the Taiwan issue serves domestic propaganda purposes well. Maybe Kissinger does not agree he said a few years ago China would not attack for 10-20 years. He went there this year and was treated with extreme respect maybe he has been co-opted. Recently seems he has changed his tune https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-06-15/kissinger-sees-war-over-taiwan-likely-unless-us-china-back-down?embedded-checkout=true 「Kissinger Sees War Over Taiwan Likely Unless US, China Back Down」 https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2023/11/11/japan/politics/charles-q-brown-jr-us-china-xi-jinping-taiwan/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=iwar0rx7j2e3dzit4iw9p4hre2-zib0eho5wwbnfq4p98preaskkeyilwexlm#Echobox=1699755966 「Top U.S. general doubts China's Xi planning to take Taiwan by force」
  16. Biden is busy fluffing President XI this week in San Francisco. https://www.yahoo.com/news/no-detail-too-small-u-120000967.html "A presidential meeting at an undisclosed location. Students lining the streets waving Chinese flags. A $2,000-per-plate dinner with the most powerful business executives in America."
  17. Taiwanese don't have their small kids pee in a poolside shrubbery box at the Westin Grande Sukhumvit like it is totally normal behaviour when fully equipped toilets are a few short steps away.
  18. Imitation of the US FBI agent? Hopefully UK authorities will take a close look. One does not come to Thailand and suddenly start carrying illegal firearms. I reckon he has a long history of offenses and never should have been let into the Kingdom in the first place.
  19. I don't have any idea who is most successful but there me must be thousands of unsung triumphs considering an objective Is your quality of life in Pattaya better than if you had stayed in your country? An easy enough goal if one follows a few basic rules thus avoiding the common pitfalls so often leading to the well-worn path of farang failure and woe.
  20. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/Thailand.html Then you look on another State Department information page and 6 month validity is "recommended" Please check the link, it is current. I remember another page on the US Embassy Thailand site said "highly recommended" while the quoted page indeed another said "required". No news often embassy/consular site pages contradictory or outdated/incorrect information. I do not comment on UK passports perhaps the rules are different When Ubon Joe was here as I recall he always posted " Need be valid for period of intended stay"
  21. Hard to imagine doing it for free but Similar 0-1 level girls can be seen going with certain desparate foreign travelers at hotels near Suvarnabhumi airport. May be cultural reasons
  22. Such a proud people to become 走狗 "running dog" of a foreign Empire?
  23. What is fobbed off as mayonnaise on many Thai menus is “salad cream”. Near Inedible tasteless goo made from palm oil or whatever https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayonnaise
  24. > To enter Thailand one’s passport only need be valid for intended period of stay > The OP better get a new passport before attempting to fly to Thailand For those with limited comprehension skills please stop reading HERE, or simply mark “confused” 😕 and move on. The “need to be valid for period of intended stay only” also true for *Japan and some others. But because because some airlines will prevent you from boarding due arbitrary “6 month” rules actovr their check-in systems there is a risk not applying for a new passport ASAP. These systems appear to be designed for the lowest common intellectual denominator for easy operation for High School educated employees at Hot Spring, Arkansas airport. What if a now unplanned side trip to another country becomes desirable? So is it 6 calendar months or do the systems count 183~days? Are we aware 2024 is a leap year? As always been the case YOU the traveler are responsible for preparing all required travel documents, visas, and vaccinations, not the airline. If denied boarding not a valid reason for refund outside of the fare rules you agreed to when you purchased the ticket. I have seen the tears at the ticket counter. Renew it now. I renew my US passport as soon as practical as required by my employer and they pay for it so I have no excuse not to *The airlines may also prevent you from transiting Japan airports without a passport valid for 6 months.
