All the Ma & Pa shops had sold out during the ban, hence the large amounts of restocking

yeah, and the last boxes last week went out of the door 'double price'.

Talk about creating a criminals ???? Seller a criminal, buyer a criminal ... just like that ... because of a ban.

And then acting surprised there is a run on alcohol on day 1 ... and new threats to ban again.

Perfect way to drive ppl crazy.

That´s a very good message. I hope people listen. Especially the alcohol needy elbow fighter over the last case of beer. I also hope he keeps his promise if the people do not listen.

    It's not a good message.

That complete situation was created because of the alchohol ban.

... of course there will be a run on the first day. Did you expect anything else?

That get's better with day 2 and day 3 ... with the knowledge that it's just available now again.

With new threats (what you say is a 'good' message) ... people will continue to run and stock up ... out of fear (threat) the ban comes back.

I don't know, my normal common sense tells me that.

Shopping mall employees were not quite prepared for the deluge of buyers and had a tough day filling the shelves.

Everyone with half a brain could forecast this ... why does this come as a surprise?  ????

What happens on the first day when the complete Nation can buy alcohol again after 'weeks of denial'?

And little shops started to sell up to double price per box?

A very nice gesture, indeed.  ????

So stock up you whiners; spend the money you've recently saved in the bank, and have a good time drinking by yourselves.  ????

I stocked up back in January,  February, March, and April; I could open my own bar / pub with my current inventory of Single Malt Scotch, Rum, and Gin.  ????

    Cheers!  ????????????????

Just out of interest, where do you live? ????

No alcohol sales may 1&2 from any 7/11.

Just a nonsense post from chap you quote.

But I saw a sign in CJ today ... saying something about sales tomorrow. And the cooler was stocked up, before there was nothing in it.

Asking the cashier about it, however, she wasn't sure ????

WOW, 6 hours only for 32 pages of pure desperation, paints a perfect picture of the average TV member

Funny thing is ... which went "whoeshhhh" over your head.

The 'average TV member', is more or less stuck at home since 4-5 weeks ... and this is a thread to vent and rant a little bit ...

Most posts are written in good spirit & fun.

Agree, it makes me sad to hear negative experiences, but in the same time, it's good to have some idea of what's going on here.

It's easy to criticise, but s**t can happen to everyone, if one's not careful, or just unlucky.

I was warned by an expat friend on my first trip to Thailand: "This is not paradise", but then, there is no paradise on this planet, we're just trying to make the best of it.

That's why I stopped joining larger groups of foreigners, because the discussion will always get into negative, very fast ... and stays like this for the rest of the evening. (Or be more selective with whom you socialize and have a great time, plenty of nice ppl live here.)

But a random bigger group of foreigners, will always have these negative stories.

A forum however, is a bit of a different thing ... we don't need to cheer us up and pretend it's all so super great ... it's a discussion forum, it's about information, and it's good to have 'all' facts, points and opinions on the table. But actually, most of the talk here will never get cleared up, because we can't speak up in public ???? It's like talking around the hot porridge. Everybody knows why, but no one can say it ????

I have never been to Phuket, perhaps 30 years ago it was still a nice place to be.

We have to consider the fact that too many tourists have irremediably spoiled that place.

I am a foreigner living in Thailand, i often try to see things from the point of view of the locals, i can understand the frustration of the good people having to deal with bad people.

The same goes if i see things with the eyes of a tourist, i can understand the frustration of the good tourists having to deal with bad locals.

In the current situation, with no tourist money in sight for many months to come, i think we should be more careful than usual, a hungry man is an angry man.

I fully agree with you ... that's how I generally also see this.

What I don't like is when ppl jump on someone for mentioning something negative, where we already can't really talk in detail about things in public.

That's not against TVF ... they just follow the rules and have to do this. That's absolutely correct. And most ppl respect this, else get a TVF holiday ????

How many discussions on here would go 'much' different, and in a more clear way, if everybody would be allowed to speak up freely.

Alas, not happening in Thailand. We just accept this. But then we don't need fellow 'guests' in this country to try and put an additional 'cap of silence' on. It's just a discussion with all points on the table. Not only half the stories.

About Phuket, been there many times ... with each visit, it went worse, very fast ... until I now don't even go anymore, haven't been there since 4 years now. Not interested to see how it is today. For sure not much better.

Although i don't share the alarmism and the panic about that fb post, i have read some post on that page, and to deny that there aren't xenophobic feelings around, is also not correct.

I have to admit that, in the years, i have seen enough westerners behaving like d**ks, to understand why some locals may feel that way.

you know, there are so many things not allowed to talk about in open in thailand.

Why not put everything on the table ... for sure there is a balance and truth in everything ... which can be discussed.

But god forbid ... no talk about anything negative ... on top of all the other stuff we are already not allowed to openly put on the table.

Ok, just all good, no rip-offs in phuket ... all back to normal. The slingshots happy the tourists are back, get their easy money again, the tuk tuks continue as they like, the jetskis also ... nature gets destroyed for more and more profit .... etc. etc.

No negative posts ... all ppl shut up ... rose tinted glasses on and all hunky dory ;-)))

Ok, I say this a bit in a sarcastic way. But why is it not allowed to pinpoint and hight light a group doing this and the rip offs going on in Phuket, for more than a decade? And a TAT which is putting it all into a even more rose tinted package?

Just sit there and say: I love Thailand ... yes, I can do this, also.

btw ... funny, just talking about rose tinted glasses ... and then this ad with that cat pops up ????

Did you look at the pic you posted ?

    Heres your "armed vigilantes" ,

    Utterly terrifying arent they !

Did you look at the 'other' tens and tens of posts with similar slingshots pics and message 'fck off tourists' on that page?

That couple are only the admin of that FB group, followed by 500k plus ppl.

A Phuket page, out of all places in Thailand! ... yes ... fck off tourists, no more for Phuket, for years to come. I hope they get what they were asking for.

That was not just one couple, that was a long series of posts with many ppl. I know, a minority ... nevertheless ... fkck Phuket, better.

They don't deserve any 'easy' tourist money ... let them rip each other off among themselves, jetski guy in a Tuk Tuk for 500 baht/100 meter journey and the tuk tuk driver on a jet ski, for 40,000 Baht fixing an existing scratch. And let nature recover.
