I think in that case that alcohol is not the problem but the person that drinks it, we are all responsible for our own actions, drunk or sober. Responible drinkers should not have to pay a penalty for few that cannot control themselves, I wouldn't mind betting that these same drunks are a menace sober too.

Except of the Middle East or Muslim countries, I have never seen a country with so many 'intermittent' alcohol bans.

Then again, I haven't been to all countries in the world. There might be similar others?

I wonder if they are '<deleted> tourist' who might also be taking photos of the vigilantes and post them on Facebook, in order to remember eventually when everything is reasonably back to normal, those to avoid and not give their custom to?

Fully agree. That place needs a much bigger lesson ... I think the current corona tourist break will not be enough. The Tsunami even wasn't.

But it will not happen ... soon bus loads and airplanes will come back and it's all back to 'smiles' & rip-offs.

There are currently armed vigilante mobs in Phuket posting photos on Facebook of themselves targeting foreigners with the slogan 'stay at home <deleted> tourist or get out of my country'. How can safety be guaranteed with people like that around?

If all comes back to normal, I would love to see ppl seeing and remembering this.

Phuket completely destroyed, nature wise and by corrupted & greedy 'businesses'

... after so many helped to re-build and send donations after the Tsunami.

For this, I hate Phuket ... been back there 4 years ago and left after one night. So many other nice places and national parks in that area.

The living arrangements for these workers in Thailand are not much different then many countries.

Filthy, dirty, smelly, rat infested holes.  A perfect incubator for disease and infection.

I am surprised there have not been reports of these places in Thailand breaking out with the virus.

Because if they start coughing and sit there in a corner with high fever, maybe even pass away, no one would take notice and report it?

I'm as surprised as you are. But maybe we know the answer, somewhere deep inside of us.

  5. The next 12 month will be very difficult to predict ... we first have to see how the phase out of restrictions works out.

We can discuss 24 hours and 15 minutes about it ... at the moment, we can be blessed the hospitals are not run over and no dead ppl stack up ... as in other countries.

Whatever it is, which is different in Thailand.

Wait and see ... the only thing to do. I'm prepared to move on, without lockdowns, keeping the same pre-caution habits.

    It seems to work here.

  6. Another reason why I avoid Sukhumvit and checkpoints for the past 2-3 weeks.

Didn't had one checkpoint yet, only short trips to the local shops and 7/11 and back home.

Can't wait for beginning of May ... hopefully we get this situation behind us soon.

And when this is all over, it's either a pool party in Pattaya or a rooftop party with hookers in Phuket.

    Whatever comes first ????

I don't know why so many want to punish them, jail them, even kill them. If all you're saying is correct than by being there around the pool near others, and possibly even drinking alcohol, they are doomed already. Better not put them in jail and infect the others there.

Or is it simple jealousy, which makes you hate them, that they get a fresh beer among friends, and you don't?

    Ok, I bite ...

I have never heard anyone on this forum saying anything against a pool party with beer (or even chicks, happened a lot before in Thailand) over many years. No one has anything against it.

Never, only until 2-3 weeks ago. Especially, since Thailand 'officially' went into a state of emergency, by law. Just as a side note.

... and there are new rules in play, fines, jail threats etc.

That's not jealousy ... just keeping up a little bit with the current changes and news happening to Pattaya recently, something minor, like a "LOCKDOWN" of the city, you know.

Other than that ... party on!

I'd like a definition of "group gathering" and "party"

I you have a load of people staying at a resort like this as guests how on earth does anyone dictate who should or shouldn't go and sit outside round the pool or in the dining area etc etc - is one of the guests going to tell another - hey you can't sit here I'm here already.

It is confusing ... but remember, a week ago, with the initial 'draft' of the Pattaya lockdown ... hotel owners were supposed to tell the guests to leave, make a decision within 3 days, or something like that. Definitely not take on any new guests.

In sum total of this situation, and what's going on around me since weeks and in the news, the fines etc.

I'm pretty sure that I, for myself, can see what my current boundaries are, what's a pool party and what not ... it's not that difficult to judge.

    Unless total ignorance takes over.

Not saying I don't like pool parties, I love pool parties ... I just wouldn't do it in Pattaya right now, I'm not that stupid.

It is not ,,some foreigners,, that give us a bad name , also the media like thaivisa are doing that . Why in the headline ,,13-foreigners-arrested-at-pool-party,,

Why not the true ? ,, Thais and foreigners arrested at pool party,, ? Big difference there , shame on you .

Media does that since long time ... hence ... why not having 'no pool' party, not giving them anything to write about?

Again some foreigners make all the rest of us look bad in the locals eyes.

While majority of us obey with current strict restrictions, some still can't help themselves.

The Ban on alcohol and group gathering is well known by all now. No excuses.

Throw the book at them, let them pay, either hefty fine or jail. No excuses.

Take care with what you say, there are clever guys on here who might interpret this as being 'your fault' we all are in lockdown and the beaches are closed, and homeless have no place to stay ????

    What do you expect?

I was running away from a group of Chinese walking on the beach approaching me, just 5-6 or something weeks ago.

How is that any different, I ask myself.

I agree with everything you say about Trump, he doesn’t carry himself well in the public eye, and his way of speaking isn’t diplomatic.
I have to wonder though, if he might act differently, had the media not turned the entire world against him, completely disregarded the positive things he has accomplished as president, and made such a huge show out of things that all past presidents have also done, such as detaining illegal immigrants at the border.
I often shake my head when I see Trump faced with an opportunity to make his opponents look stupid by explaining the facts in a calm, reasoned manner; only to see him to lash out aggressively, and give them that much more to criticize him for. He’s not that sharp, and is often his own worst enemy. That being said, most of the Americans that I know, who work, pay their taxes, and try to get ahead in life, have said that while they don’t necessarily like Trump as a person, their situation has improved since he has been president.
So many people nowadays seem to think that being a likable guy is the most important credential for running a country, and that the government’s job is to take care of people, rather than to create an environment where people can take care of themselves.

I certainly don't disagree with you. Also, I don't live in the states, so I can't really see or feel what people are thinking or talking on the ground or in that country. I think I haven't been to the US since 7-8 years now.

To me, it's either a directed funnel to the left or right, in either YouTube commentaries or TV channels. So I try to stay out of it.

I just had this crazy flashback of my old days of business meetings when following those press conferences.

And Trump has so many trades of my ex-boss (which I loved so much ????, not really) when I look at him.

He's US corporate to the bone.

I leave it up to other people to say whether this is a good or bad thing. It certainly is different in the political circus.

    Time will tell.
