I think the governor of Ohio came up with a brilliant plan. Given that it's clear that people who are reluctant to take the vaccine are mathematically challenged, he's offering a lottery with five 1 million dollar prizes for those who do.
It's a bold strategy, lets see if it pays off for them.

i'm an introvert as long as i have my computer and internet i can lock myself in a room for month and year only pop out to do grocery, to be honest i won't be in a rush to take the vaccine who knows where and how the Thai got the vaccine from, i'll wait and see if the vaccinator get turn into a zombie or not
Statistically, It's much much much more risky not getting the vaccine as soon as possible than risking side effects. Just sayin.

Actually, there's a vaccine surplus in the US right now due, in part, to the not inconsiderable number of vaccine "refuseniks" and others who are simply too lazy or stupid to follow through.
It's now looking like vaccine efforts are stalling in the US. They are trying all kinds of things to encourage people but it's looking to me like the US is going to eventually end up behind a lot of other countries after they catch up, based on current trajectories.

I hear what you say - although the OP doesn't bring the ability to pay into the equation.
But I'm not sure the good people of Thailand would have rejected a schedule of vaxing based only on need ... such as age, infirmity and occupation - irrespective of race or homelessness status.
Thailand is not like the west. They are traditionally organized along lines of hierachy and patronage and there is no amount of complaining how unfair that is or whatever that will change that.

SinoVac—-no <deleted>’ way
Astra/Zeneca—-maybe, but nope
Moderna—yup
Pfizer—yup
Johnson & Johnson—yup
If you are getting a tube shoved down your throat because you can no longer breath on your own do you think you will still feel good about your decision to wait for a better vaccine?

I don't think there have been any factories making AstraZeneca that actually met their initial production goals. So I would say their current schedule putting all their hopes in this one local factory is almost guaranteed to miss it's target.

The west is free to donate if they want. Strings attached or not I don't see anyone in the west rushing to do that. The US is still hoarding vaccine and raw materials even though they have ample supply for themselves. Thus ends todays lesson why China has more influence.

Seems rather premature. The time for trying to force people to get it would be after there is ample supply and most of the willing have been vaccinated.

I don't know what people are belly aching about being back of the bus. You will probably be front of the bus with the premium vaccine if you can pay for it. They need to be sensitive about what they say because Thais will resent foreigners being able to jump the queue by paying. So I can sort of see both sides of it.

Thailand is not in Covax for exactly that reason
https://www.voanews.com/east-asia-pacific/thailand-defends-decision-not-join-covax-vaccine-alliance
I did not know that. Bad move. Even the Philippines is ahead on vaccine supply compared to Thailand. At least for western vaccines. The PI has gotten over 2 million AZ shots from COVAX so far.
Thailand seems to be putting all their eggs in one basket hoping this one local factory is able to produce most of their vaccines. There is already a story suggesting they are having production problems and may deliver less than half the promised amount in June/July. Where there is smoke there is probably fire so we probably haven't heard to worst of it yet. I think even with their most optimistic projections they can only supply 60 million this year which is not nearly enough.

Unless Thailand can get it through COVAX. Australia doesn't really qualify for COVAX. Also, I'm sure for the right price Thailand can get it sooner. I doubt they would be willing to pay it though.

I still think keeping the right temperature will be a challenge in Thailand. But the main reason for discarding this vaccine in Europe is mishandling. Personel get good training in handling the vaccine but still the smallest shake of the syringe and the vaccine is without effect. You cannot distinguish the failed vaccine by eyesight and you risk injecting placebo in the patient. In Europe they discard the vaccine in the slightest suspicion of mishandling. Do you really think they would do that in a profitmaking private hospital in Thailand? Since the patient would´t know the philosophy whould be that everyone is happy anyway.
I would´t take that risk in Thailand.
The hospitals know how to handle it. They have proper refrigeration and are used to handling temperature sensitive things like this. So they can definitely do it.
Pfizer also lowered their super cold requirements so it's not as big a deal anymore.

I think it's bare flourescent tube lights in the hallways, industrial style. Something I don't mind personally, but it can be creepy for some people at night.
That hasn't changed then. I remember dark hallways, and this was in the daytime. The other thing was the smell. That musty smell you typically get in really old buildings. Like a combination of 10 year old cigarette butts combined with body odor. It may vary depending on what block and what side. I was right in the middle on the far right hand side low rise as you walk in, on the second floor. I also had a look at a couple places in the high rise but quickly decided that building was not for me. Felt too claustrophobic.
The other thing that bugged me a little was the lack of privacy coming and going. Always people sitting around the ground floor shops watching you come and go because of the layout of the place. I wasn't crazy about that.

Elitists....they don't want everyone to know. Best kept secret in Pattaya.
Which is why people are openly talking about it on ThaiVisa? That makes sense.
Go to just about any website advertising cheap condos in Pattaya and you will find Nirun listings. But shhhhhh, it's a secret! ????????

Not sure how many years ago you were here, but for the 3 years I have been here, the halls are mopped daily.
As I have said, it's not the Ritz, but please try to post up to date information.
I will have another look next time I can get out there. That's just a wee bit difficult right now.
What about the light fixtures? Many hanging by the cord and half of them weren't even working.

Just a fyi I have been getting a couple polite and informative private messages from different people talking about how great Nirun is.
Seems to be long term residents. Apparently they don't want to post positive stuff on the building in the public forum.
Not sure why. Just wanted to put that out there. Are you trying to imply I live there and don't want people to know how awesome that farang ghetto is? ????

All floors are cleaned daily so stay reasonably tidy...
Since when? That was not my experience a few years ago. Hallways were filthy.

The hallways are filthy and don't look like they are ever cleaned. That is the biggest turnoff for me. Location is ok but I wish the road was wider to make it easier to walk to Big C Extra. It's a low end kind of place with tenants to match. The one and only reason to stay there is because it's cheap.

Why is there such a long wait before starting vaccination, if you have the vaccine in needs to be put in Arms ASAP...... or are you telling porkies and you haven't got any vaccine, why doesn't this Government just come clean....
You almost answered your own question. Supply/demand. Everyone want's it and not enough to go around. Should get better after the US/UK are mostly finished vaccinating and start exporting in two or three more months. I think that is partly why they are talking about June/July and not sooner.

Again not correct, its the world, the transfer of technology to the Serum Institute in India was on the basis of the same stipulations, ie not for profit/loss until the pandemic is over. No transfer of the Oxford Uni technology will happen unless this is agreed in the contract.
"agreement with the Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII), among other world-wide vaccine manufacturers, to produce the vaccine currently under trial at the University of Oxford on a mass scale, if successful.
“Our vaccine work is progressing quickly”, the university said on Friday. It recently announced the start of a Phase II/III trial of the vaccine in about 10,000 adult volunteers with other late-stage trials due to begin in a number of countries around the world.
The agreements, reached on a not-for-profit basis includes a $750 million agreement with the Coalition of Epidemic Preparedness Innovations founded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation"
They had to agree to sell a certain amount to COVAX and other organizations at near cost yes. But they can also sell for profit to private companies.
Go argue with the CEO of the Serum Institute about it. That is where I am getting my info from. He says as much in some videos on youtube and in the link I posted previously.

No thats not correct, its not for profit and thats their contract agreement with Oxford Uni, well until the pandemic is officially over that is.
That's in the EU. That is not what the Serum Institute is planning to do with Covishield, which is their brand name for AZ. That is probably where a lot of Thailand's AZ will come from once the Indian gov't lifts their restrictions on exporting it.

im confused on why they dont go for the moderna . easier to transport.........around. in the usa in smaller communitys moderna is more prevelant. as phizer had to be kept super frozen. only larger citys have that type of refrigeration.....................now we see the power big pharma has
Because they aren't making enough. They just cut back expected delivers to the UK and some other countries.
Foreigners will definitely get vaccine in Thailand; urged to register from August

They are already vaccinating 12+ and it hasn't changed the trajectory. Chile and Hungary just passed the US for per capita 1st shot and Canada is about to do the same.

Some states are doing fairly well, like California at over 50% and rising. Then you have problem children like Mississippi at something like only 30% vaccinated. Connect the dots.
