Sorry, not as secure as you think. The 'man in the middle' attack will be done when setting  up your VPN connection, which gives the attacker access to everything you do when connected to your VPN...

Never a shortage of 'security experts' in any internet discussion about security.  Doesn't matter what it is, you will always get randos saying it's not secure.

A VPN uses SSL or some other modern crypto for the initial connection.  Then, once you are connected the traffic inside the VPN will also be connecting mostly via SSL.   It's certainly good enough for the banks.

It's a Line App.  Not secure. Forget about it.  why would you put your personal information on a Line App?  Line is great for arranging the gardener to come over or arranging lunch with friends, but personal information.  No way.

Why are you using the internet?  It's not secure.  That's just crazy to be using the internet.  You probably do banking and lots of other things over the internet.  That's crazy.  Now they know who you are and have all you info and will be sending the black helicopters because you apparently think you are that important for them to care.

So, if she has not filed a complaint, how come this story saw the light of day?

She is a twitch streamer with a fair amount of followers.  I think that ended up streaming live and sort of went viral.  She acted pretty upset about it.

I first saw it on Reddit where it was getting quite a bit of attention.  I can't be bothered to post the video as they end up getting deleted half the time for whatever reason.

    That depends.

I.e. I often ride to places with street food which are maybe 2km away. And then I buy i.e. a noodle soup for 50THB.

How else would I do that except with my own bike. Any other way is inconvenient or financially makes no sense like paying motorcycle taxis 2*40THB to eat a soup for 50B.

I know I could just eat something in walking distance. But it's nice to have the choice and with my own bike it cost almost nothing.

Depends where you live and how often you do that.  I've never felt the need to go to any street food places not within walking distance.

  5. If you have lots of experience riding a motorbike then you will be fine.  If not then I would not recommend it or be very cautious and drive very defensively.

I have lots of experience and history riding motorbikes but I prefer not doing that in Thailand because it adds a lot of unnecessary stress for me.  I will do it sometimes in Pattaya if there is something specific I want to do. Never in Bkk.  Too easy to get around using other ways.

Dr Suphat said that as the government has a limited amount of the AstraZeneca vaccine, it has instructed hospitals to get 12 doses from each vial, instead of the 10 doses that the label recommends.

The idea is to increase the number of people who receive the AstraZeneca vaccine by 20% while using the same amount of the vaccine, he said.

So if true,  it looks like they won't even be giving the recommended dose.

When they fill up the vials they put in a little extra to make sure you can get at least 10 doses even with some loss for whatever reason.  So you can often get 11 or 12 shots out of it.  This is no different than what many other countries are doing.

But they managed to vaccinate all of their staff, etc.

The vaccine is shipped in dry ice and could probably sit in those boxes for a few days.  You could unthaw it and vaccinate the staff in a couple hours. No need for storage.  Not at all the same as trying to run a vaccination clinic.  Embassies don't do that.

Logistically it would be a nightmare to pull off - all countries Americans are in...

easier to just book a flight home and get it within a few days...

and then get a gym workout and a lap swim in which one can’t do in thailand...

This.  If you want a vaccine fly there and get it.  Embassies don't have medical fridges so that's kind of a big problem right there.  So then they would have to make some deal with a hospital which would open up a can of worms politically.

Trust about what exactly? The vaccine has been through huge trials by now. Independent of the parent company or the Chinese govt. How much better are the other vaccines? As far as preventing hospitalization or death the best a vaccine can do is 100%, They don't fall much short of that. And it doesn't seem like there's any reason not to take another vaccine when the opportunity arises.

From what I've seen posted in this forum and onother, the animus seems to stem from anger at the Chinese govt. What's that got to do with the effectiveness of the vaccines?

Pfff, they have only given out a few hundred million shots over several months.  So hardly enough to draw any conclusions ...????

But, they are having ramp-up issues are they not? So, they either didn't learn or they are having different issues which experience wouldn't have helped with.

It's a new plant making a product that the company hasn't produced before (a vaccine), why would anyone doubt there would be issues with initial production?

Because people naively think it's just like making corn syrup or soda pop or whatever.  From what I have read, making adenovirus vaccines is relatively new and quite hard to do in large quantities

They have to grow human cell culture, or something like that, in huge quantities and apparently that's kind of a black art that varies for every manufacturing plant.   It takes about 8 weeks to grow a batch.  So if something goes wrong during that 8 week time frame or their yield is low or whatever it will take another 8 weeks to make another batch.

mRNA vaccines don't have to do that.  I think it only takes them about 2 days to make a batch.  So that may be why they have been able to ramp up faster.
