  1. I haven't seen a TV in the UK in the past 10 years that wasn't capable of displaying both PAL and NTSC and that applies to the cheap-as-chips ones, not just the quality brands.

Interesting. My experience during the last ten years, reflected in my earlier comment, is limited to Japan, Canada, the U.S. and Thailand.

  2. Does anyone know where I can find a converter here in CM that will change the Thai type TV signal (PAL) into the type used in the USA (NTSC)? We brought a 50" wide screen over with us and while it works just fine for DVD's and computer downloads it will not accept the signal put out by the satellite dish.

as far as i know, tv sets nowdays are compatible with all systems of the world. both picture and audio.

Not at all true, at least with respect to picture. Multi-system TV's, which are compatible with at least most of the systems of the world, are becoming more common in some places, but they are still only a small percentage of all TV's sold.

The only suggestion I can make for the benefit of the OP is that if you are unable to find a converter, you might look into whether there are any multi-system DVD players available here (I bought mine in Japan and don't know about availability here) and, if so, whether you might be able to use one as, in effect, a converter.

  3. I have met both the bird and owner. I am very glad they have been reunited. :o:D

I have met neither, but am also very glad. If the bird -- and a very beautiful bird it is -- has a son, I would encourage the owner to name it p1p Squeak in your honour.

  4. You guys surprise me....next you will be discussing the vagaries of pate, and nuances of Puligny Montrachet... :D

Only Le Montrachet, please, and I fear that it has been several years since discussing the vagaries of my pate, and in particular of the growth thereon, was of any interest to me. :o

  5. I love the croisants there and most of the different kinds of bread. Also, the coffee is quite good. There is a new French guy doing pretty good croisants, but JJ's are flakier and better. Does anyone know of any others this good in Chiang Mai?

Have you never created a 'best croissants in Chiangmai' thread before? How astonishing. :o

JJ's are my favourite croissants in Chiangmai, and I do not know of any others as good.

  6. Thanks for that, Blinky. However much others may contribute to my day, it is as nothing compared with the joy that reading your posts brings to my heart!

Correction: that should be 'there have been', as you are speaking of two or more threads, not one.

As I recall, you wish to have your spelling mistakes corrected whenever they occur. I trust and assume that you have the same desire with respect to your grammatical errors.

You may point out that here, too, there have been at least two posts on the rather boring subject of grammatical and spelling boo-boos in the past six months. I will continue to believe, though, unless I hear from you otherwise, that your wish to see improved spelling and grammar on this forum trumps the ennui that envelops you when a subject that has been raised once or more before is raised yet again.

Yeah, yeah Razza. Your kreteks will be at Tuskers on the 29th. Be there!!

Excellent! Good to know I understand correctly your desire to improve.

You have both contributed enormously to my day!

The kreteks will cost you 3 Beer Lao's and 2 Tequila's.

I would be delighted and honoured to treat you to your opening round at Tuskers.

    . . . In my boring life outside TV . . . and n between reading repeated posts on TV . . . I have . . . managed to spend consirable [sic] time . . . with my 17 daughter [sic] . . .

Out of my special affection for you (but don't push it too far), I offer two spelling corrections. You meant 'considerable', not 'consirable', and 'daughters', not 'daughter'. :o

  7. There has been at least 2 threads on this rather boring subject in the past 6 months. Why start another?

Well, Blinky, not everyone is bored enough to follow thru threads day in and days out. Anyway, I am bored enough today to reply to this.

You might have replied but what is the value in your reply ?? You haven't really added anything to the thread "have you" :o

Similarly to you. :D And what have you contributed to this thread. :D

You have both contributed enormously to my day! :D

  9. No luck finding a player here in Thailand. EBAY is flush with great deals but wouldn't

even want to contemplate shipping one here. A friend was given a large collection of discs

and we are trying to find some way to use them. It took me a couple of months to find a

used slide projector but eventually found one in Bangkok, so there is always hope.

    JOHN

I have a laser disc player, a very high end one that I bought about 20 years ago, and a collection of a few hundred LDs that I collected at the time, mostly films. I am not interested in selling any of them, but I will send you a PM with some other ideas.

  10. Great thread! :o

This site says it does not kill bacteria then immediately says the vagina produces it to control bacteria. Say what?

Dude, keep in mind that killing things is not the only way of controlling them. Shoot, I too have been controlled from time to time by vaginas, but none of them have killed me (can I have a 'yet'?).
