What did you have for breakfast?
fredwiggy replied to BritManToo's topic in Western Food in Thailand
Tell that to the millions who suffer from diverticulitis, IBS, bowel cancer and constipation. Cleaning out your colon daily is necessary to prevent problems. Fiber helps reduces total and LDL cholesterol, which is a heart saver. Hemorrhoids are also prevented. I'm guessing you're just playing around, because these things have been known before we were born. -

An example of what? I eat beef, for those qualities and it's taste. I eat apples for the same reasons. You don't compare them. Both are needed foods, at least as far as one having B vitamins, fats and protein. The other isn't for some of those but mainly Vitamin C, fiber and energy. Living on just protein and fat foods leaves your body lacking of needed nutrients. -

It makes you think, what are they thinking before leaving the house? Ok, let's go and have a few beers. Let's see, got my wallet, watch, house and scooter keys, wallet has my ID, and my knife. -
I'm wondering how many of those that stated this man was wrong, wouldn't want him working on me etc, are not atheists. As a Christian, of course I believe in God and an afterlife. I also has heard of many reports of people who were on an operating table saying what they saw while clinically dead or at least right there, things that only they would know. Also, the many reports of children who have died and gone on and seen things that they repeated when they were brought back, that were impossible for them to have known, people they never knew existed but were relatives of his who had dies years earlier. People have all kinds of reasons to try and explain this away, but none are convincing. I remembered a story about a Myanmar monk and found the link. Pretty interesting read.........................https://www.nairaland.com/544233/testimony-buddhist-monk-myanmar-died

When I said why stop eating some of the best food on earth, that was a general term, meaning western food from all over. Every country has excellent food, and who wouldn't want to still eat some of their own country's food? I've never , yet, been to the UK, but I'm looking forward to traveling there someday to try Irish, Scottish and English food in a pub, along with the excellent beer those countries have. I have friends that already have, and although ethnic food from those countries is pretty simple, it, to them, tasted great. You can't judge a culture by what their cities serve for people on the go, meaning fast food (not just McDonalds, et al). You have to go into the homes or eat at the local restaurants. Millions of Asians still eat ethnic Asian food, which is great. I've had Thai, Chinese, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Laotian, Japanese and Korean food, and it all was, is, great. Western food introduced isn't taking the place of Asian's own food. It's just an addition. Some of which is healthy, and some isn't. -

That's actually what most of us do. Why stop eating some of the best food on earth just because it might be hard to find? Asian food is great but not every day. White rice every day isn't a healthy choice because of the glycemic index besides the fact it would get boring. <deleted> back home? Where are you from, Antarctica with whale and penguin as choices? -

A lot of BS has been written over the years, and believed, by those seeking quick answers to weight loss. Humans are omnivores. We need fiber to have a cleaner gastro system. Fruit has vitamins that meat doesn't also, and the suger from fruit is never a problem if you aren't eating it all day long and in excess amounts. You can surely lose weight, if need be, by going to a Keto diet, and it does work, but shouldn't be used forever. Oatmeal is a very healthy grain, as is rice. They are the least to cause allergies and inflammation. Wheat, pasta, can be a problem if you are intolerant to wheat. Other grains might be if you are gluten intolerant. Some are both, many are neither. Too much refined sugar is what causes obesity, and then heart attacks. Too much fat can do the same. Too much LDL from saturated fats raise your cholesterol, which can cause a heart attack or stroke. I have eaten grains, vegetables, starches, fruit , and pasta all my life, along with mostly chicken, fish and lean meat, and have stayed lean all that time, with a resting pulse of 58, and blood pressure averaging 115 over 55. Calories from too much alcohol, fruit juices or whole milk are the worst. Drinking calories is never a good thing, although wine and beer in moderation isn't a problem. I had trained thousands of people back when I lived in the US, and helped with their diets. Every one made gains in muscle, lost fat and lowered their cholesterol and blood pressure. It's not a hard science but fad diets are never the answer. -

Teenage wisdom is bountiful here -
At last a topic almost everyone can agree on. Most if not all coffee drinkers know instant doesn't compare to fresh ground, and some coffees are much better than others, something most coffee drinkers will also agree on. I never drank coffee until it was around the year 2008, when my then wife, a coffee drinker, had me interested. I had a couple sips of iced coffee from my dad's glass when I was a kid, but not again until when my wife and i got married. I always thought it wasn't for me, until I started reading that coffee can actually help your health. I tried many different brands, and only had a Keurig after awhile, one cup at a time. It was okay, but I still thought the fresh grounds I tried were better. After awhile, I was a regular at Starbucks and other coffee drive- throughs in Texas, having it every morning before work ,hunting or fishing. They're coffee is pretty good, especially if you try different blends. I always wanted to get a good coffee maker, and send for different beans, especially hearing that Vietnamese coffee is at the top. Still haven't tried it, but was thinking of visiting Vietnam next year so that will be on the menu. I also don't think it's snobbery to go to any length to have the best in food and drink. I'm not near wealthy, but I've drank wine that the rich do many, many times. For those inclined, I've had a 1953 Chateau Latour, 1960 Chateau Lafite, 1976 Bernkasteler Doktor Auslese, 1976 Chateau St. Jean Selected Bunch Late Harvest Riesling, and 1976 Chateau Margaux, just to name a few of the thousands of bottles I've shared with friends. Not a snob, just like the taste of good wine, just like coffee drinkers here, who can understand. Someday soon I will have that coffee maker. Doesn't need to be at the top. Just good enough to do what's needed, because the ingredients matter more.

Phuket Landlord Shocked At Damage Caused By Foreign Tenant
fredwiggy replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
I often wonder how certain nationalities feel when someone trashes them here. In this one topic, now I hear this kind of behavior is "expected" from Ukranian or Russian". Another one won't rent from Canadians or Brits because they had a bad episode from two people. I hear it a lot about Americans, but it doesn't bother me for two reasons. The ignorant will always remain that way, and there are no real Americans anyway. All of our ancestors come from every country on earth. It's just a piece of land where they ended up. Brits, Thais, Italians, Russians, Germans, French, Spanish, Mexicans, Swedes, etc etc etc, all are Americans when they live there. Do you posters realize you're again condemning a whole nationality based on a few problems with a couple? This more than anything else shows who you are conversing with, and their beliefs. Adults should know better, but this is why kids act this way also. It's taught first at home, then it goes out into public and s**t happens and people are hurt and die. Gets old after awhile. -

Hard gainers need to use weight training to put on muscle. If you're eating healthy, have no underlying conditions and are happy with the way you look, then consider yourself lucky. -

Usually happens unless the child recognizes that the mom or dad isn't "right" and tries to be different. The longer they spend with their parents, whatever they are like, the more ingrained the parents habits become, and the harder to break if they need to. -

Mutual interests are a great bond, along with communication, trust and loyalty. I didn't have that with this one besides the intimacy, cooking and her not being overly greedy. It was other things that ruined it. Things she learned as a child from neglective and abusive parents. -
