Strange and annoying things here in land of smiles
fredwiggy replied to villageidiotY2K's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
They would do, and do, most anything to be just like us.They've adopted everything western is all about. Their TV's, computers, cars, trucks, phones, pop music, TV shows, and lifestyle mirrors western. There aren't many things that are actually made here in Thailand, especially that are exported besides rice. canned pineapple, tuna and cassava. Greed is a household deal here, with much of their praying to Buddha about cash and gold. Westerners might be greedy also, but greed in a poor country abounds, as most want what others have. We move here mostly knowing what Thailand is all about, as many of us hear news about this country years before we ever come here. Thais don't know much about other countries because their school system doesn't teach much, and their ideas about western life is skewed by some letting them think we are all rich, which is far from the truth. Up to 70% of school girls are molested by the time they are 17, which is nowhere near the 11% in the US. A large amount of children grow up with no contact or support from their fathers. Yes, in other countries many dad's don't care much, but they do make a better effort at contact and support is mandatory. Foreigners would like to see more improvement here of course because this is a developing country far behind in it's thinking and actions, and the people here suffer for it. If you think most here are happy you'd be wrong. They get by, daily, on very little and many turn to drugs and alcohol because of the sheer boredom of life here. Yes, greed is not a substitute for happiness, but having more daily needs and a better pay scale is a necessity and not a luxury. If it wasn't for foreign tourism this country would suffer even more, and if you took away the purchased women, it would be very little besides the beaches and food. -
Questions. Is it any of your business how much anyone spends for food? Why do you consider a person cheap if they want to save money? Being frugal is always a smart idea because one never knows when they might run into trouble and need a lot of their savings to get out of that trouble. People who comment like this are actually bragging that they have more money to spend than others. How they came into that money is the real question. Did they work a job that was helping others or the earth, or was it taking advantage of others, raping the earth's resources or moving rich people's cash around so they make a profit doing really nothing useful for the average man?

Minister launches emergency plan as deadly dust chokes Thailand
fredwiggy replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
You do realize people have to go outdoors for a lot of things right? Shopping, eating out, doctor appointments, etc. Complaining is the only way things are changed, but it's the locals that need to complain. They won't listen to foreigners because it isn't our country. Being controlled has most locals not wanting to complain, so things that need to be changed will never happen, unless it affects the rich in charge. The same goes for driving on the roads and the daily deaths and injuries. There has to be a care for things to stop. Talking about things doesn't change anything. Students will fall off buses and others will continue to be killed by inadequate maintenance on them. There is only one way to stop the pollution. Stop burning altogether. It isn't necessary as there are other methods of using the chaff from rice and sugar. People think it's okay because "everyone" does it. Staying indoors all day long is what many officials do, so they think they aren't affected. What you can't see can kill you, as lung disease takes time to kill. You don't adapt. You eliminate the problems. -

It affects people who go outside, so I understand why you would say that. -

I use plastic bags and bring them to the closest collection spot about 6 kilos away. Our village and others near here also have no collection service. Another thing the government should be paying for instead of trying to buy submarines and planes they'll never need. -
Many women here are raised without fathers. This has them seeking out the perfect absent father or one who was abusive and neglected her. Co dependency happens a lot in these circumstances because that's all the girl knows. She also sees this with her friends, where they are also treated bad. They see this on TV, where the Lakorns have hero men who rarely exist in real life here fighting the bad men because they are treating the woman with abuse. Attraction to others isn't a choice and this leads to bad choices as it did in my own life. True, she should move, immediately and not look back, as it only gets worse.

You would think after generations of people seeing this type of behavior that women would understand staying with these losers only gets worse, that past history usually leads to future actions, especially involving intentionally hurting someone. You can't change a person's character. At 27 he's about where his character has been formed and is very hard to make changes, especially without intervention.

It should have never gotten this far. When a man hits you, it's because he saw it growing up with his father hitting mom, or dad was absent and he learned this behavior from other local boys who had the same environment growing up, and look at women as slaves and to be used. Staying never ends the violence and it will get worse. No man is worth staying with if he has to be a coward and vent his anger on a woman. This type are afraid of men and choose women because they are less likely to fight back. The sad petulant creep can't even make mama noodles by himself?

You keep commenting on American culture and how it is now and you left America decades ago, which means you really don't know what's going on there besides (what many use as information) a few videos people put up. For the topic, it might be better, seeing you rarely leave the house anyway, to clean weekly, a little bit at a time, so it doesn't get out of control. People who need maids and slaves are lazy. You make a mess, you clean it, something parents should teach all children. And an American cannot join the Asian Navy so I don't get that statement.

Japan dethrones Thailand as top tourist spot

Real country. Why are you here? Ha My friend was in Springfield and we drove around that area in the country. Very nice and I was thinking about the deer hunting while I was there. You weren't far from Quabbin Reservoir, which I heard about reading Field and Stream or Outdoor Life magazines. -
My dad also passed, at 79, from lung cancer. He smoked 3 packs a day for 60 plus years so he did it to himself. I've been trying to do whatever I can to stay healthy and hope genetics isn't too involved in my case. My mom passed at 84 and never smoked, as it's a big reason one gets it, so who knows.

This isn't the full video I saw earlier somewhere but it tells what happened. Elephants belong in the wild and are abused to do tricks, and have been for years.............https://www.newsflare.com/video/656395/elephant-irritated-by-handler-poking-her-with-stick-tramples-him-to-death -

Dog Fatally Attacks 84 Year Old Owner at Home in Saraburi
fredwiggy replied to Georgealbert's topic in Central Thailand News
Agree that the dog was at the least neglected and possibly abused, as a family pet rarely turns on an owner that has trained it and loved it. yes, it does happen, but it's still a rare event. Dogs see us as other dogs, and if they are raised since birth, as part of their family. Being chained up all it's life is cruel. There are countless millions of gentle dogs as pets that are a blessing for a family to have. They are the best, most loyal companions a person can have, IF you treat them well all the time, and teach them respect and to be gentle. Many people actually do need a dog. people suffering from depression that aren't social have their dog as company they don't have stress from. Dogs are also caretakers for the disabled and blind. I have had dogs all 68 years of my life with very little problems. It's some people that are the problems with dogs. It's true some shouldn't own dogs because they are either abusive or neglective or both. -

Where in New England? I used to deliver cheese to Grafton, Vermont when I lived in New Jersey. Visited a friend in Massachusetts. My dad hunted in Vermont and possibly Maine. I always wanted to and probably will when I move back to Texas. Beautiful country. -
they just killed 2 of my dogs
fredwiggy replied to bubblegum's topic in Plants, Pets & Vets in Thailand
The dogs around here, most of them, belong to other people, and are taken care of by the way they look, along with myself feeding them. I've had 5 that lived here that were poisoned. Every animal that lives at grandmas; ends up dead, and also a cousin's that lives down the road from them. No animal needs to be poisoned. That's the work of a sadistic weirdo. If they are killing livestock, that's one thing, and they need to be kept in an enclosure, although most here don't do that. -

Treated my ex better than anyone before. Like I said, I think it's my ex;s family that's being targeted. If it the cousin that lives there, who I suspect, he's a very strange individual, on drugs half the time, and if you saw the look in his eyes, you would think something's not right inside. If it's the family itself, I know that many here don't like them, so seeing I'm part of that family from the past, they could be targeting everyone. -

And some here think older people are all about to die because they've reached 60+. Those people need to understand there is no way of knowing when you will pass.
