The UK government could have easily prevented these deaths by ensuring no illegal immigrant is ever granted asylum, offer no benefits to go to the UK, and deported them the moment they arrive to either the country they came from or another country for processing. This is called a deterrent and would have prevented people getting in the boats in the first place.
