    Same in the UK,

My Brit son asked me when he was 20 .........

"Dad, if I've been dating a girl a couple of months she'll sometimes let me have sex with her but doesn't appear to like it much, why is that"

    I replied,

"Best ask your mom, she's been like that for the last 30 years, and I haven't a clue why"

That was before I encountered Thailand, where the girls appear to want to do it even when you've already paid and just want to fall asleep. I'd never encountered women who wanted to have sex before.

TBH it's always been the other way around for me. It's the girls who want to have sex with me. Not because I'm something special, but because of my particular approach in separating the wheat from the chaff.

So I don't ever get to the point of having sex with someone who doesn't really want to have sex with me.

Probably the reason why I didn't ever get into the night entertainment scene. I'd rather just give them the money for nothing if they need it that badly, to have to sleep with someone if they didn't really want to do it.

For me it's either a mutual attraction or forget it.

  2. I'd like to say a few words on this. For me Thailand is primarily a place I come to for my good health.

I'm sure for many others it is the same. Simple life in a bungalow by the sea when I arrived set the scene for many.. No need for too much money. Locals happy for some help and if the visitors are not too stressful, there is relative harmony and even genuine friendship. Nothing about which to complain.

Some, instead of keeping to a harmonious way of living, get involved in things that may be injurious to their health and become bitter.

I don't know if I am allowed to mention the late King here; but his words that he wanted to do good resonate with me.

In the same way; I want to do good in my time on this earth. In this way I love Thailand. It's not about expecting a place to be perfect; it's about you learning to love the one you are with....yourself, Thailand, everyone. You don't make the one you love happy by complaining at them. You do so with warmth and positive encouragement.

It's a little bit rude to go to someone's home and complain about everything. I am sure that many are caught in a trap and the stress is affecting them.

But perhaps learning to return to a simple life was always the answer. Return yourself to a calm state and learn to love again.

Rather than just talk about it, I just do it. If I fail, I try to do it better the next time. Being in Thailand has helped me with this. But not only Thailand, but everyone I have ever met  and everywhere I have ever been.

So thank you Thailand and thank you to one and all.

Around 9-10mbps, on both Dtac and True sims (both on 10mbps packs). I was more interested in real life performance, and glad to know that YT, Netflix, Pulse and few other streaming sites didn't stutter on Dtac (as never did  stutter my 1y True sim), so now I bought Dtac 20mps 1y. ????

After @userabcd post, I also checked my messages and saw SMS offer from True (in Thai, even if my True settings are English ????) to renew my 10mbps pack for another year at 1890thb, which means keeping the same number for extra 100thb (since regular price for this pack is 1790thb), not bad.

My girlfriend need new sim 1 year 10/20 Mbps too, so I might give her this Dtac 20mbps and keep my old True 10mbps...

Or, maybe I'll check AIS 10mbps 1y as I heard it's actual speeds are 30+mbps, as @Pravda mentioned it here today too.

Anything over 10 Mbps and you are winning ???? You are doing fine anyway. Cannot complain about the price.

I have AIS capped speed SIMs. I get the speeds for which I pay and remain sceptical of anyone who claims 30 Mbps on a 10 Mbps pack.

Sometimes there is free full speed Internet given every time you top up. So it could be that skewing the results. Sometimes the speedtest used is not that reliable.

I as specifically asking about adding a data package to an existing SIM.

The delta for me (365 days/1 Mbps) was 1,800 vs. 1,190, so significant but certainly not 4X.

I get why this is, even though the additional revenue would be equivalent they want to both capture new subs - an important metric, and keep current customers somewhat captive with higher rate data plans.

As someone mentioned using two SIMs might be the best of both worlds?

Someone mentioned that you can add an unlimited pack to an old SIM anyway. Helps if you read all posts ???? Unlimited 10 Mbps for 1800 baht per annum in a specific case with AIS.

I just wanted to test 1day 20mbps, but Dtac didn't had so I bought 10mbps 1day pack. I don't need this cheap sim, I'll give it to somebody. My True 1 year plan is due, so I was testing Dtac to see which one to buy next for 1 year.

But you mentioned I could just reapply True 1 year (keep the same number?) which is interesting... Thanks ????

Once again, you should not have bought a capped speed pack to test the SIM. You use a Max Speed pack. Such as *104*851*9#  9.63 baht and 100MB in volume...for one day.. Enough to run the speed tests.

  6. 1 minute ago, sallecc said:

Thanks, I didn't know this, I thought those packs work just for a year I need to buy new sim ???? So I can keep my True number and just reapply 1 year pack?

Not exactly; they can apply an unlimited data monthly pack. I posted the monthly cost elsewhere on another thread. A bit more expensive than monthly, though still worthwhile if you want to keep a number.

What has not  been posted on the forum before is that there were unlimited 30 Mbps packs for sale too. Now only AIS supplies them. The other two networks have dropped out of that race for now.

I didn't want to make it faster, just eant d to see how 20mbps Dtac is handling real world scenario (YT, Netflix, Pulse TV) on my location, not max-speed which is obviously great... Anyways since Dtac didn't had cheap 20mbps pack (for my testing purposes), I bought 10mbps cheap pack and it seems to work fine same as my True 10mbps did for a year... I'll also test this Dtac 1day 10mbps today around the island, and if coverage is as good as it was True, then I'll buy 20mbps 1 year sim ????

Okay, it make a bit more sense now. But it was a waste of money to buy a 10 Mbps pack if you already have Max Speed. All you have done now is to limit the speed to 10 Mbps or less. If you cannot obtain 10 Mbps, there is little point in paying for 20 Mbps. But since it's only around 10 baht per month extra, it's really not a big decision.

You activate it yourself, it's easy I got English manual from Tree Mobile if you need pls PM me.

I have no idea of what you are trying to convey. I think I explained everything clearly.

I don't have any idea why you think not having Max Speed is great. Lots of words put together in a confusing way.

But you appear to be happy with your current decision, so I'll leave it at that.

Yep I bought cheap 20thb Dtac sim to test it on my location. It came with 7gb data, it works great but it's max-speed (not 20mbps), so I was thinking to buy cheap 20mbps day or hour package to test it, but it seems that Dtac doesn't have 20mbps packages, so I'm not sure how to test it... Or maybe for Netflix, YT, Pulse TV it doesn't matter if it's 60 or 20 mbps (right?)... Other option is to just buy True 10mbps, since the old one worked flawlessly for the past year... I'll see . . .

Max Speed means that you are getting the maximum speed at your location. Buying a 20 Mbps package won't make it any faster. They do have a 20 Mbps monthly pack for 299 baht; though as I said, it won't make a difference if you are already on a Max Speed pack.

Could be down to the network or your equipment.

If you want to keep the True number, you can re-apply a 10 Mbps pack to it. Run a speed test on the Truemove H SIM and the DTAC SIM using https://testmy.net

I have a AIS 10mbps/unlimited bought on Lazada a year ago. Only use it occasionally. Last used 6 months ago. Top it up 10THB occasionally to keep it active and sign up for unlimited packages when needed starting at 70THB/w. It always speed tests at speeds much faster than 10mbps depending on location. No issues with streaming IPTV etc.

Even after a year of having it, it's still registered in the Lazada shops name.

It tests at over 10 Mbps because it's not a 10 Mbps SIM. It's a normal SIM that had a 10 Mbps package applied to it...which ran out. Now you can apply any package, including another 10 Mbps monthly option.

Has anyone found codes that can be used to apply for a twelve month plan on an EXISTING SIM?

Obviously there are 1, 15, 30, 90 options. Occasionally I saw a 180 option. And there were some 12 months add-ons via resellers

Obviously, without a reseller code there is no way for third-parties to make money.

So for DTAC is might be *104*nnn*1234567* SEND

where nnn is the promotion number reference, and 1234567 is the reseller code (for their SPIFF/credit)

There are some codes out there, not as inexpensive as a new SIM, which makes sense I guess - new subs are a highly desirable raw metric. But still the same as a 30 day subscription.

I think all three have a 10 Mbps/12 month SIM.

    12monthsim.jpg

    part2.jpg

You can call the network to ask them to apply an unlimited pack, if the SIM had a monthly or annual unlimited package originally.

Yeah I noticed this new Dtac deal for 20mbps as well. True doesn't have one yet (right?). How about AIS? I'm using True 10mbps due to expire in 2 weeks.

I'll buy cheap Dtac sim (only 20thb here in Phuket) and some cheap 20mbps hour or day package, just to compare actual speed and coverage in my place, then I'll decide to switch to Dtac or keep True... I'll try to check AIS as well.

Neither True nor  have an annual 20 Mbps option; only monthly at 300 baht per month. AFAIK.

DTAC is by far the cheapest(not including NT Wireless Internet via SIM service); though make sure that you can obtain high speeds with DTAC; using your equipment at your location.

Thailand is a pretty good place to 'navigate the vessel.'

Almost anywhere is good if you are a good captain. A good captain knows how to avoid the rocky and dangerous parts. Some are just too reckless and pay the price.

Yes; I knew what you meant.

You obviously haven't been to Benidorm - there are more mobility scooters per square kilometre than anywhere else in the world!

Most used by overweight, middle aged women on benefits.

But don't just "dis" Benidorm, the old town is quaint and has some superb tapas restaurants and oyster bars.

Benidorm is likely a bit like Pattaya in that there are the gaudy parts; but if you don't visit the touristy parts, it's probably a pleasant place.

People have opinions about Pattaya; but I don't involve myself with that side at all. For me it's a relatively relaxing place, where I can learn to gradually decrease my stress levels in an organic way; slowly and surely, rather than looking for instant gratification and the ups and downs that go with that.

That's why you will rarely see me complain about anything in Thailand. We are all imperfect and I am part of that imperfection. So I try to improve myself and raise myself to the level where I can at least do the thing that I am pressing someone else to do.

No point in criticising others if you are a useless lump yourself.

So find a place where you can become the best version of you. Thailand is helping me do that. They don't pressure you to be perfect and stick to rules like limpets. You get a lot of leeway here. Maybe people make money from it and it's not a perfect system; but you likely knew that before you moved here. So learn how it works and learn to live in harmony with imperfection or find a place more in line with what you need.

I still love Thailand; whatever her imperfections. Same with my native country. You will rarely see a criticism from me about these things as they are all to complicated for my little brain. Too much information.

The Thai way of not overthinking suits me to a certain extent. I keep it simple here. Communicate in an polite and friendly way and reap the benefits of learning to be a nicer; though not a totally stupid person.

Good health, (mental and physical) comes first. Everything else comes afterwards. Don't skimp on your good health. Not gluttony or excess; but good health.

The Algarve has been an English  speaking enclave for decades. There is no language  problem there.

It's most certainly  does  not rain excessively in the winter.

Thousands of people for decades  have found the sea to be comfortable  for swimming and there are swimming  pools of course.

You are badly informed or just being awkward for the sake if it.

The thing that put me off the Algarve, was that I suffered horrible Hay Fever there, worse than I did in the U.K.

I only get it badly in some places. Eyes horribly itchy there. Don't remember it being an expensive place.

It all depends on what you need for your life. There is no one size fits all. I'm reasonably health conscious; so choose places likely to be beneficial to my health. With good health, I can more easily navigate my vessel through life ????

  16. It sounds as if I am one of the few people who hasn't been overcharged by a Phuket songthaew. I paid 20 baht for my journey in 1998. The songthaew driver actually apologised to me for picking up someone else on the way and making a small detour.

It's a big issue. It's seems the kindness and humility in the tourist industry is all but gone. But the tourists have changed too.

Backpackers were genuinely grateful to find and live simply in such a paradise. Involved themselves with the community and therefore kept the respect of the Thai people.

With no connections between the tourists and the locals; it's seems more of an us and them situation these days, rather than mutual respect.

I respect rich and poor and have relatively few problems.

I rented a car on a later visit, since the stories of overcharging were so prevalent. On holiday it's probably best to take the path of least resistance, as that is why you are in Thailand in the first place. To work out the kinks and stresses in your life. Not to add to them. Maybe don't drink so much that you cannot get yourself home ????
