I have ordered everything today. I am convinced that this will be a high end Dolby surround system. If not then you are guilty. If you didn't post the link for this cheap 5.1 speaker system I never would have indented to buy such a scrap ???? No - in any case it will be an experience. Thank you for the idea.

Looking forward to your evaluation of the items.

Yes, you can dual boot as you suggest, but its a terrible idea. Win7 is appallingly insecure whether 32 or 64 bit. If you must run it, keep it to a Virtual Machine where it has its own little sandbox (to use a familiar term). If you're OK with Mint, then use that as a host - a new version of Mint has just been launched (20.2) and then you can run any number of operating systems. One strange effect you may notice is that Windows tends to run faster in a VM than natively.

And then, when it goes horribly wrong (normal for WIndows), it can be safely deleted and reinstalled. If shared folders are used for data then nothing need ever get lost.

I've run linux as a VM host for years and am currently using 16Gb of RAM in the host and allocate 6Gb for each VM. Means I can be running the linux host and up to two other operating systems simultaneouisly - although never use more than one at a time. Dual booting would mean you can only run each system separately and each would have to have a large lump of hard drive. A VM will dynamically allocate space and  is far more space efficient.

The laptop in question is thirteen years old. Dual boot on an SSD is better. You can still secure Windows 7 until 2023 with a little jiggery-pokery.

    I don't understand your statement

"Are you seriously asking about Dolby? Let's just make out that you were joking and move on..."

You posted the link for a Dolby 5.1 system.

In respect of the Dolby digital to analog converter there is a much cheaper one

    https://www.lazada.co.th/products/vaorlo51dolby-dtsac-3-optical-to-51-rcatvdvdps4-i1564996855-s4211680828.html?spm=a2o4m.searchlist.list.2.3be03471SNuxvt&search=1

The other problem is that the AC-3 input of the speakers don't have an input for the Center speaker but it provides a Center speaker as output. No idea what will be the output there. In the worst case I will have to buy an additional active speaker that can work as Center speaker.

I don't want to spend much. I have a headphone for Dolby Surround. Not perfect but I can make as much noise as I want. With the speakers in a condo - will not use them often. It is for sure one of the cheapest Dolby setups you can have. I don't expect much. At least I have something to do...

    d01ca9dc7d5e363aeb227cf0f124fd12.jpeg.jpg

    It's cheaper because:

    Ships from Overseas

If you don't want to spend much then don't expect too much. If no ridiculously high expectations, likely you'll be satisfied overall at that price.

  5. Why not spend a few hundred baht to buy a solid state drive and then swap it with the existing hard drive. Then you can play around to your heart's content. Install Windows 7 64 bit & Linux or Windows 10 64 bitand LInux...

You are looking at 600 - 700 baht for a 128 GB SSD.

With that simple upgrade, you might decide that you don't need a new laptop after all.

great options and surprised with the price as well, thanks but my space is limited as I live in a condo unit thus the first option looks like it will fit

Don't neglect to post a review of the speakers along with any complaints received from your neighbours.

The 5.1 looks interesting for this price. How do you connect them and what kind of Dolby do they provide?

Are you seriously asking about Dolby? Let's just make out that you were joking and move on...

I imagine standard RCA connectors. If only an optical out is available, then this too; https://shopee.co.th/SPDIF-Sound-Decoder-Pro-AC-3-Optical-Digital-Surround-DTS-Audio-Analog-i.130671956.6673355471

    or this:

That does the decoding if the output is digital audio.

Why are you asking me about unfortunately?

Obviously because I would most definitely WANT there to be a Peruvian restaurant in town, but UNFORTUNATELY there is not. Clear enough, now?

I asked about it as this is an English language forum and your first language is English.

If you meant that it is unfortunate that there is no Peruvian restaurant in Pattaya, then that is what you should have written; but you didn't.

What you actually wrote, was that it was unfortunate that you have to agree with me. Clear now?

Unfortunately I have to agree. It's not really a Peruvian restaurant. Pattaya lacks that.

    Unfortunately??

Anyway, without Tiger's Milk Ceviche and Causa on the menu; it really doesn't qualify.

They have to sell what is known to their customers; Russians and Norwegians at a guess, when busy.

A shame, since one can source most of the relevant ingredients quite easily. Others can be substituted successfully.

    Yes, Peruvian restaurant.

Very good reviews about it in Google, but I have never been yet.

    CHICHA Restaurant and Hotel

    https://g.page/chichapattaya?share

Also rooms for rent daily or monthly.

Peruvian? I think not. One or two dishes on the menu does not Peruvian make.

They probably have more Mexican style dishes than Peruvian style.

They describe it as "Latino & Mexican", Thai & Russian.

  11. Your terminology is all over the shop. Samsung DVD(Blu-ray multi region)??

So it's a Samsung Blu-ray player that can also play DVDs; not a "Samsung DVD" Is it Multi-region for both Blu-ray and DVD or just DVD?

Rare for a Blu-ray player to be Multi-region without a hardware modification. DVD; not a problem.

So tidy up your post. Not an issue to obtain a Blu-ray player and to make the DVD player part Multi region. Blu-ray discs will still be region limited.

Anyway, the main takeaway for me is that the currency swings are never only connected to just one issue. A multiple of factors are always at play. Some more than others. Yes, Brexit had an influence but other events around that time, and since, also impacted on both the GBP/EUR  and GBP/THB rates. To just point a finger at Brexit and leave it at that is a touch simplistic to my mind.

Having a rate of over Bt45/GBP is good news (not sure where you get a current rate of Bt42.877085), no matter the reason. Hopefully we can agree on that!!

I used the posted chart as a reference to keep the basis consistent.

Anyway, no argument necessary. I just got involved to refute the nonsensical suggestion that the 'Remainers' were responsible for Sterling's slide at the time.

I enjoyed a rate of 91 baht to £1; we take the rough with the smooth.

I have an Android box plugged into my TV using HDMI cable, the sound overall is very poor, to hear something have to adjust volume to very high and yet still not clear sound, was wondering if there are some easy to set up speakers that don't require any Amplifier, an easy simple add on type speakers that I can plug into the TV or bluetooth type speakers, saw some on the internet and Lazada but maybe somebody here has been using some and can advise on type/model/brand, thanks

If you have the space, you can grab a 5:1 system for even less: https://www.lazada.co.th/products/nano-fpk-1070-51-ch-usb-bluetooth-wireless-i2394853387-s8163956770.html

It was your post making reference to the GBP / EUR rate that I was referencing. But, if you are not wishing to go into any detail on that issue, for whatever reason, that is your choice...... Oh, and it is far from being fiction.

I did go in to detail and you ignored it. I mentioned it actually began in late 2009 with bailouts taking place in 2012 and onwards; so I hardly avoided your reply and in fact refuted it to an extent. But it IS off-topic so I also referred to the relevant GBP/THB pair which in turn refutes the nonsense claims concerning Remainers here.

So, you are ignoring the PIGS impact on the Euro exchange rate from 2013 to 2015? With the current rate matching close to the rate from 2009 to 2011, i.e, before the PIGS crisis that placed the future viability of the EU in some doubt. Interesting.....

I think that you are confused and you also ignore that the PIGS crisis was in play from late 2009 and bailouts took place in 2012 onwards.

As to your claim of the current rates being the same:

    31 Dec 2009 53.66845
    31 Dec 2010 49.013664
    31 Dec 2011 48.886638

    Current rate:

    12 Jul 2021 42.877085

But why let the facts get in the way of your fiction?

Apart from that I post what is relevant to this board; the GBP/THB pairing. More fabricated excuses to be found?
