  1. Ping it and see where the ping terminates.
  2. None, it is real. Blocked, it appears. I wonder who they p'd off.
  3. Well, here's my experience. When we were building out home in Thailand (2008), I was bombarded with insurance offers; the worst seemed to be BUBA who somehow got my email address. We (my wife and I) decided to allow one of those companies to visit and give us their spiel. Based on that, we decided to "self-insure" (regards to Sheryl, but her posts here on this topic are one-sided and obtuse). Self-insure for us meant having enough money in an account that would cover (most) medical emergencies. A couple of days ago, we decided to sit down and calculate the win/loss of that decision. In spite of a major surgery and several less dramatic issues, the following: SUMMARY Total Insurance costs since 2008 (had we gone with that company – all rates based on their rate schedules each year which we religiously kept - rounded to the nearest 100 B). (It should be clear to everyone that the coverage during that period of time would have decreased substantially while the premiums would have increased exponentially): 1,653,900 B (probably closed to 2,700,000 B based on increased rates based on age) My actual medical costs (yes, including major surgery with associated 6 days in a major private hospital (again, rounded to the nearest 100 B) 1,137,400 B (actual) Interestingly enough, the medical emergencies account still has the original 3 Million B in it, a factor of interest and tax return savings).
  4. Absolute nonsense. Self-insurance in TH is the way to go to make sure there is sufficient to cover remediable medical events.
  5. Lazada. BUT!!!! From Sandisk themselves. Prices competitive; delivery reasonable (MUCH better than Shopee) and you KNOW you get a real product.
  6. Wow! Talk about a blast from the past. Next think will be someone bring up (no, not a pun..) Postum.
  7. No one has yet mentioned the best source - https://katcr.to/
  8. Order 30 Piper Cubs. Should be equal to the actual task at hand.
  9. Have used both for a considerable period of time with some great, some bad experiences on both. But lately have noticed a big change on Shopee's system that many of you may not be aware of - the shipping cost changing. Pick an item. Write down the shipping charge. Add it to your cart and do a test pay. Nine times out of 10 the shipping charge has changed. And example this week - was going to order kitchen tap valves, Shipping B7. Checkout. Shipping B84. Removed item from cart and ordered from Lazada. Initial shipping charge B35. Checkout shipping B35. Paid amount - B35.
  10. If Hatari is not a premium brand, then what is (readily available in Thailand)?
  11. There are more strange aspects to this case. In Thailand even minor criminals are arrested in handcuffs (or with handcuffs even before they are formally arrested). Yet this bigshot's wife (or ex-wife, as the case may be) never had cuffs or chains put on her.
  12. Nonsense. A Thai PPL (private) and CPL (commercial) are both recognized internationally including Europe, GB, US and Australia. Yes, English language is a requirement of ALL pilots worldwide - including Thai.
  13. Another thread gone to sh**, hijacked by peeps who can't seem to understand that.... We live about 100km from CR City, so can't help you there. I can second the Saifon recommendation. Excellent quality. For plain white (sourdough or yeast) try the Big C Bakery at the Big C Supercenter at the Northern end of the City. I however will strongly recommend you give up your quest for bread and seriously look at getting a wheelbarrow. A very useful suggested addition to this thread.
  14. mackmack. I wonder, is that Thai or Angreet?
  15. The headline is incorrect. The Doi Tung fires are still burning (as well as a considerable portion of the rest of Chiangwat Chiang Rai).
  16. I do believe this is the Chiang Mai forum. I also believe the previous post is for a vendor/shop/etc in BKK (the 02 number.......)
  17. We used insulated rooking tin and have regretted it ever since. It doesn't take long (about 3 years) to start scaling off - first in small patches, then it large pieces. We are now faced with either replacing all the panels, or peeling off the insulation. And these were high quality ones from the national chain. The white suggestion is actually not so good an idea. They all turn colour soon anyway (dirt, rain, etc), so any lighter colour would be fine.
  18. Unions? Not really (but did contribute) Thatcher? Not really (but she did it no favours). Really poor quality cars did it, though. From the late 50's on, names like Lucas and Rover, Triumph and MG etc etc were synonymous with poor quality design, construction and an abysmal lack of quality control - even worse that US car builders in the 60's.
  19. Panasonic - available at pretty-well every electrical/building supply shop. NOT expensive like the Schneider and much better.
  20. Had to check my old passport (renewed lately) to confirm: Full Visa Application made to the Myanmar Embassy or Chiang Mai Consulate (E-Visa started about 2015 but I was never able to get it to work for us). Requires a usual international full application, valid for 3 or 4 weeks, and permits travel throughout Myanmar (sort-of, with huge restrictions). Don't remember the prices but I think it took about a week. Mini-Visa (using unlimited Thailand Immigration re-entry permit): Leaving Mae Sai: Departure stamp with date, Mae Sai Immigration Entering Myanmar: Arrival stamp with date, separate stamp "Visa valid until: [date]" Myanmar Immigration Leaving Myanmar: Departure stamp with date, Tachileik Myanmar Immigration Returning Thailand: Arrival stamp with date, separate date showing "Admitted until [date of extension expiry]" No prior [full] Visa required from Myanmar Embassy or Consulate - but mini-visa valid ONLY in the Tachileik area. On entering Myanmar, received "Entry Document" that had to be returned to Myanmar Immigration on return to Thailand. They would ask if just shopping or staying overnight (your choice, no difference in requirements or cost). Myanmar visa the usual 500B or $US10. On return to Thailand, had to fill out usual 2-part arrival card(s) with all the info they require. And yes, all the information was entered into computer and one part of the TM6 document stapled into Passport. Day Pass (Stopped being issued by Thai Immigration about 7 years ago) Passport was kept by Thailand Immigration and was issued 2 copies of a "Day Pass", each with a copy of my Passport front page attached. Both copies were handed to Myanmar Immigration, one stapled to an entry card and return to you to be handed to Myanmar Immigration on your departure. Prices: Thailand 100B; Myanmar 500B or $US10. No stamps in passport. On arrival back to Mae Sai, queued-up at Thailand Immigration and your passport was returned to you (no stamps or hard copy in passport) As I said, this practice was cancelled by Thailand Immigration about 7 years ago.
  21. I can only speak about what occurred previously, not what may be happening now or soon - but in the past each trip to Myanmar using a min-visa was considered an exit to a foreign country and then a return (killing a single re-entry permit).
