You are only in Pattaya for 4 days a month. In any case, did you actually go to The Sportsman this past high season, pre virus? I frequent The Sportsman, and noticed a big drop in clientele, and this was in high season. This was confirmed by staff and management. I hope they remain in business, even when things get back to normal.
The Sportsman is a good example because of its consistency. It consistently has good food and beverage, and service and facilities. The same management, and their high standards, have been in place for years. It's not like The Sportsman "went down hill." The problem for The Sportsman is, Pattaya / Thailand has changed around it.
What has changed has been well debated on TV, such things like strong baht, higher cost of living, rising competition from neighboring countries, changing tourist demographic, aging expat population etc etc All of these things, and more, are outside of The Sportsman's control. They were along for the ride pre virus.
Sports bars like Retox are big operations. They are not a hobby for a retired expat. They do not operate like a charity for expats. If profits aren't coming in, they wind up. Retox is currently for sale. What does that tell you?
Elderly expat clientele is not enough for these sports bars to continue operating. There is no money in putting a football match on, and having your bar full of spectators watching the match over a cup of tea, or a glass of coke, or one beer, and then leaving. They need the tourists to come in, preferable with their two week Thai girlfriend, and for them to watch the match, get drunk, buy a meal, and hang around after the match, before heading out somewhere for the night. This wasn't happening pre virus, and doesn't look to like happening for the foreseeable future.
Your last paragraph confirms you have absolutely no idea.
The Sportsman is in a <deleted> location, not been for many many years ( used to do my visa run from there ).
You keep mention Retox - why? it was a flash in the pan.

Wood and cheap don't go together if you want something that the local wildlife won't make a meal of ????
We used Conwood Decking (30cm x 3m x 25mm) which looks like wood when painted and won't get eaten by anything. Comes out at about 500 Baht per m2 before paint.
Also we built our deck framework in steel for similar reasons, steel is cheap and readily available here and the tools (welder, chop saw, angle-grinder) can be had for very reasonable prices if you want to DIY.
Totally agree with regards to not using wood, i've suffered with termites in the past and it can get expensive to repair things!
Shera wood is also and option and is very durable.

If you don't mind me asking, is the additional rail just for extra support, never seen that before?
Unless your gate is particulary long?
As others have said i've had 3 electric gates all about 25-30K, good should about having the motor raised above ground level for rain.

I would humbly suggest bricks and mortar as opposed to wood - way way less problems.

I stopped playing chess at the Bookhouse because I took the Mrs, a couple of times, and she was not keen on all the Lao ladies that were eager to learn the game. Thought they were up to no good; hidden motives and the like. She would give me grief. Just not worth the agro'.
Too far to travel also. 70k for me. I miss those days though.
Do you do everything your wife tells you?

1- a weekend at the beach doesn't cost a lot. Just petrol for the pickup.
2- only a minority of people didn't work last 2-3 months. The majority did work (yes!) and so has easily money enough for a weekend.
OK, what's your point?
Were there domestic tourists there or not?

Actually quite the opposite, that's pretty much the only thing you could still do.
Oh, that and watching Netflix.
I understand that, but that particular members main objective was to go there and 'bang' cheapy cheap girls.

COVOD has saved me lots of money so far.
No border runs, reduced school fees, reduced university fees, reduced water and electricity bills.
No wasting money in massage, bars, coffee shops.
And I've even got some AirAsia credit as well.
Who could have known?
But no banging - lol

Recently I bought a 600 baht mini robot vacuum cleaner from lazada, it was an impulse-buy kind of thing because it was under the flash deal category at that time.
Man, I have to say what a waste of money that was. The robot when I'm lucky, sucks 1 single grain of dirt per square meter. And it produces this loud sound of utter disappointment as it goes around my living room doing absolutely f-all.
I figured with the quality of the robots, you need to "go hard or go home with floor still dirty"
How much is the robot? And what is the exact model of the Xiaomi robot?
Edit: Ah ok, you mentioned the details already in your posts above.
What do you expect for 600thb?
My mate paid 20K for one and rates it highly.

2 minutes ago, southcoast said:"Tourists do not need to be from overseas"... So maybe find another Planet as the one you are on is not the same as everybody else. Most of the people on the beach were probably locals getting away for a break from there empty shops, bars, and the restaurants, if you have a good memory, they would be the places that tourists frequent, so, "not" the hundreds people that were expected. Remember! local people have not worked for 3 months and more months to follow.
Are you feeling ok?
I understand where the people will come from, obviously you do not!
The people that have not worked for 3 months seemed to have plenty of money to come out on the Holiday weekend just passed or did you miss that?

One hotel does not make policy for the whole of Pattaya's hospitality industry.
However, it is going to be very hard going for the industry.
The Sportsman's and a fair few will survive with expat business until the rest of us can get back.
That seems further away as the days pass.
'Leaver" won't believe you, according to him everything is destined to ruin, never to return - lol
I agree, many sports bars it will be business as normal with the long term expat clients, would suspect little difference apart from the loss of revenue during the months of the forced shut down.

3 hours ago, HauptmannUK said:Tyres deteriorate with age because UV light and the atmosphere cause oxidation and depolymerisation of the rubber. The rubber goes hard and starts to crack. The tread becomes less compliant and therefore grip is reduced.
Carbon black in the tyre acts as a sacrificial absorber of the UV to protect the rubber. Over time it is progressively used up and the tyre becomes less black and more grey. That's why tyres left in the sun everyday tend to 'rot' more quickly.
I wouldn't use a tyre beyond about 6 years here in Thailand.
As a young engineer I had a colleague killed by an old tyre. He took a test car out on the track and a tyre broke up at high speed. The car flipped off the track. HSE investigated etc. It turned out that the tyre was 'new old stock' - manufactured over 10 years previously but somehow only just fitted to the car. Nobody had thought to look at the date code.
This is something you should always check here, look at the date code.
Even if they say new it may well have been sitting somewhere for 1, 2 ,3 years or longer...
Very important.

In my opinion it wont stop scratches, about as much use as the Window Films stopping heat myth.. What a good coat does well is stops Bird Poop acidity staining the Paint.
Bird poop and some sap that falls from trees that can damage paint work.
In the past i've also had bike tanks done that prevents scratches so those who say it does n't i disagree.
There's no negatives with the wraps / skins ( except the cost ).

Really, we can fly to Vietnam, enter and have a holiday there exactly the same as it was before the pandemic?
I'm sorry but i doubt that very much indeed.
