  1. On the frozen island of Hokkaido these 40 year old dark wood trains were in there element - in the heat of Thailand "warm and cozy interiors" are likely not what is needed.
  2. Not a US thing - it is required of all nationalities for decades to register a marriage (official) at a District Office in Thailand.
  3. 1. To get married in Thailand you must provide proof you are not married or divorced in the form of an affidavit from your Embassy which must then be officially registered as a legal document in Thailand at MFA. In the case of USA this is your signed statement. 2. To lie on an American affidavit would be a federal offence. Could get bad. 3. To lie on a document being registered with the MFA (fill in the blanks - would likely not be a pretty picture). 4. Official divorce/re-marriage could work but probably more work/expense than just going through the hoops. Over age 50 could change to retirement extensions with financials.
  4. Tesco Lotus new name - Tesco pulled out months ago after selling to CP owned groups. Tesco name/website is still being used but new name is just Lotus's.
  5. It was provided by Phyathai2 hospital for everyone getting second shot - QR code at top that can be used to access official database and certificate itself gives full information so just showing should be fine for any potential requirement. There are still many Thai using Nokia type phones who will not be changing anytime soon - the idea that everyone must have a smartphone never found support for more than newspaper headlines.
  6. 1. Do you really need access to vaccine site? I did everything using home computer for my 2 AZ shots and got a certificate which others can verify with scan - no need for my having smart phone. Why pay for data that I do not need? Yes understand I am the exception in today's zombie phone stare world. Prefer to use computer at home and watch people/world when out. 2. For me it is battery life (none) and feel (block of ice) and falling (destroyed with a two foot drop) and updating required daily. On/Off/SMS is enough for me. 3. If buying old style make sure it is using current tech - anything below 3G may be an issue now or soon - there is a lot of 2G still being advertised.
  7. Yes amazing how that works - many if not most hotels have been closed for more than a year so this seems to only concern the handful that are still in the game. Only news fit to print is good news. Can say home across from me here in Bangkok sold this week (at a very low price) reportedly because owners large upcountry hotel has failed. There is a lot of difference between the haves and have nots currently - and the nots seem to be multiplying.
  8. I have used card for years with no issues - money is bank in account quickly if canceled. For us card use is better than having to find exact cash for each delivery and anyone in home can receive the pkg. As for price you have to shop as you do in person and compare closely - there are as many or more overpriced items on shopping platforms as in market (I suspect much more - many by same persons using computer generated names to spam same item at 3 or more times normal price in hope if you see a page all at same high price you will buy one). Rather than the physical feeling in a shopping mall you need to replace with real search abilities - which having a specific name/model helps greatly. Indeed home shopping is today, even without Covid. And the take back to seller may not work will when you have names like "99r8g44be" as the seller.
  9. Actually it has become almost meaningless on platforms with the new "pre-order" many seem to be using (obviously no stock and ordering from overseas but gets listed as Thai city in ships from).
  10. Our original LL (circa 1978) did not even have a ground at entry point and did lose a few phones over the years. Gpon (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) seems to be today and a lot more flexible. As someone from the 60wpm M-28 Teletype era today's world seems like a dream. Some still had battery/crank phones when I was young (even 40 miles from Boston).
  11. True but it should come back again without a service call - unlike when lease line fuse is blown in village phone box and you have to report outage and they first try to find signal lost in your home so not there problem. Outages here in Bangkok are not common for either internet or power so don't expect that to be much of an issue for a low use home phone.
  12. Yesterday TOT/TN/CAT or whatever the current name is came to fix a Bangkok 02 telephone line that had not worked for several weeks. No attempt was made to find issue - a new fiber optic line was installed with a modem attached to normal landline phone. Guess this is the norm now and with the modem already in-place upgrade to internet easy. Anyone have any experience with such and quality of internet service? Must say the Huawei GPON is really tiny but seems to have two LAN connectors as well as phone line available.
  13. Actually this sounds like a very on topic post - as said much better to post in format most people use but can understand phone user not being aware so above should help. I am also another viewer who decided not to download and install something I knew nothing about as a non smart phone user (of any type).
  14. You only have one breaker for all electric sockets? If not did you try using on another breaker? You are saying no trip using either without RCD? Have you ever felt shock touching either item? Are there coax or other cables attached to TV? Does it still trip with these removed?
  15. That is not 1% of liquid - it is 1% of minerals which is but a tiny fraction. Unless you are in the multi million mile club do not believe there will be any discernable difference.
  16. While distilled may be closer to 100% - normal RO filtration removes 99% of solids so not much of a difference.
  17. That would increase mineral content and likely cost more than just using RO drinking water or distilled water. But it should kill the virus.
  18. Is that what they are using now? Disagree about the taste not being bad - but at least it does not last as long as durian.
  19. As said for long stay it would have been at 1400 using Bangkok Bank (did that on 1st of month). Today sent to another account as general monthly expense to check if immediate and indeed it was.
  20. Again (since name change) have had immediate ACH draw deposit to Thailand account (not using long stay reason - which does cause delay to about 1400 credit using Bangkok Bank). Today at 0803 (Thailand time) requested $1,500 from my USAA checking account to Bangkok Bank account. Deposit made at 0803 in amount of 48,344.40 baht with exchange rate of 32.5 and fee of $12.48.
  21. And there was a severe shortage of AZ vaccine - they actually tried to increase the time to 16 weeks just prior to that - appears they are starting to catch up with demand and shorting time gradually as supplies become available.

  23. Just check the type of drinking water you are buying - if RO filtered it is fine (only thing better is distilled at much higher cost). Almost all minerals are removed with RO filtration. Most of the normal bottled drinking water these days is RO.
  24. If she is Thai and worried about cost why would she be using a private hospital? Even if have to return to area of house registration hospital. If that is not an option paying at a government hospital would be much, much less than using private facilities and doctors likely to be much better than a cheap private hospital. I had major (8 hour) operation for cancer few years ago costing a bit over 1 million at high level private hospital - same would have cost less than 100k at good government hospital - but wait would have been required.
  25. My understanding is as outlined in post by Brew - 50% to spouse and other 50% divided among children if there are any or other relations as outlined. No will required. If on marriage extension believe immigration allows stay until current permitted to stay date. Then would have to change reason for further stay.
