  1. Drinking water from roof is traditional method (stored in clay jars) - suspect still being used by many farmers who do not have extra money for bottled water, which is a relatively new thing here. But agree for you and I bottled water is reasonable for drinking (although use RO tap water here in Bangkok).
  2. Do you take a monthly bath? ???? You need to use a lot of water in Thailand to keep cool and fresh unless living at top of mountain, and smelling like it. There are long dry spells each year. It is done on some farms but also with wells/ponds but not feasible for normal house as would require many, many tanks to store water and probably more than a home roof could supply. Mostly roof water is used for drinking - not for general use. That said suspect collection of rain water in ponds could help a lot if properly done and there is a real need for it on a large scale.
  3. A breaker trips on overload (16A or such) which happens when live wire is grounded or you pull too much power for the breaker - so a 3 wire appliance will trip by overload without anyone touching if properly grounded. An RCD trips on 25ma or so (very low current to save your life) when you touch live and make a path to ground (bare feet or such). It can and will save your life when you touch a live wire or improperly/non grounded appliance. The RCD normally is attached to a normal type breaker and trips it when there is more than 25ma or so difference between the hot/neutral wire - so if you touch the wire in OP it should trip RCD before you die (but you will still get a good shock and not want to do again).
  4. RCD I will assume. That does not require any ground wire to save a life - ground trips breaker without RCD - RCD trips current with an imbalance between neutral and live (you become the ground). A real lifesaver many times over.
  5. They may not like a shock but they sure do like hot wires - have lost dishwashers to them at least five times. Cars are frequent target and have them eat through electric run in attic several times until replaced with larger wire which not getting hot does not seem to attract them as much. Dogs don't make cats a full time option although cats often take up temporary residence on roof so suspect they help to keep the higher level rats under control.
  6. What about everyone else with a hose into wash water or worse or cracks in pipes? Do not pump from mains - ever - a tank is not that expensive and only requires a float valve to keep full. If you want mains pressure after pump that is when you need a non-return valve (or just an on/off to do manually if normally use pump).
  7. I normally pay about 30-40% more at a major private hospital for expensive meds and about double for inexpensive. All hospitals itemize if you ask for detail receipt.
  8. Was at Clark PI in Oct 1987 when 4 were murdered (shot in cars) and installed dark film to help prevent being a target - although having a government plate kind of said who we were - at least they could not see or take aim. I was not elderly at that time but can say driving at night was almost impossible. I would go with light film except for front window top (there is a reason truck drivers like hoods). Dark film on sides makes it almost impossible to back up.
  9. I have found Shopee Google translates very will using Chrome. You may have to do two times but then seems to hold for session. But have found have to refresh page at times to get correct price as new page comes up but previous page price remains until a refresh done.
  10. Suspect, just as with us, if contact is just between same part of the body it is a jolt rather than death (the one finger rule - used to be a standard test for 120v back in the 50's - stick one finger into lamp socket while rest of body insulated from ground - this was before they had easy tester screwdrivers) - it is when current goes through the heart that most deaths occur.
  11. And doing so is both a danger to you and others plus illegal - if a neighbor has an open tap into septic you will also be pumping that into your drinking water as an example - as well as any ground water that can enter system. Decades ago it was also common even in Bangkok but almost all use tank now and pump from that for higher water pressure.
  12. Bangkok Drugstore online have it for 2,500 baht per 30 packs of 50mg and are a reliable mail order source for drugs. Expect most drug stores will be in that general price range. https://bangkokdrugstore.com/product/androgel-50-mg-testosterone-30-sachets-2/
  13. I have never heard of anyone building in Bangkok on a floating foundation (if that is what you are saying) - Bangkok is about 40 feet deep mud and can not support anything - all homes use piles driven into the earth to support foundations. Walls are not supporting so cracks are not normally a serious issue. Most of Thailand does flood so having as high as possible is normally a good thing (unless you want to go Thai style and build at second story level with open space below - not the best in old age or for vehicles).
  14. Can only advise AFP was 650 baht in June - always have liver function test (several tests) at 2,100 baht (found to have fatty liver as well as cancer).
  15. He now seems to claim it was just a troll - guess he feels exempt from forum rule 9.
  16. The only time I have not received was when USA Mail sent to Trinidad rather than Thailand - and did get a few month late. All other times Chase and re-mailed cards have arrived with no issue in normal mail. This has been my experience for 30 years now.
  17. Believe it would be best to hire someone to repaint - should not cost that much - patching is likely to show and be pointed out by owner. Had to pay for such once when did not remove ceiling mirrors (one foot squares stick on) some 50 plus years ago in Frankfurt. ????
  18. Blaming you? Did you pull the paint off or her? In either case can not imagine coming onto a forum to moan about it or expecting someone to pay extra costs for trying to give you a happy birthday but guess I am of a different generation.
  19. Cats and rats are the most likely runners at night but during day birds will make a lot of noise. Only the newest and most expensive types have bonded insulation - if not they transfer heat as get hot as h... in the sun and are like an oven below. So good airflow below is important and if have ceiling insulation on that will help keep it out of living area (and not expensive to do), Will also help to deaden the noise a bit.
  20. I have liver cancer (and had bladder cancer) and pay about 50,000 baht every 4 months for MRI (better for cancer detection and no radiation), blood work and contrast media for full abdominal scan - if just liver check would be cheaper, with upper only scan, by probably 10-20 thousand baht but sounds like you should have full scan with your history. Blood tests alone are a bit more than 4,000 baht. This is from upper level private hospital in Bangkok (but not most expensive tier). Have had two RFA procedures to kill (primary and a secondary) at about 200k each. I have insurance and would not advise living a life here without (bladder issue was over a million baht and government hospital at less cost was not an option due time factor) - so as said perhaps best for a life in USA for long term if you have issues getting insurance - you may not be in any condition to fly home for treatment in an emergency.
  21. It was being asked and recorded on forms used at Phyathai 2 Hospital in June.
  22. Normal cheap ceiling is cement board - put you hand on it during the afternoon and it will be hot hot hot and that makes the already room air even hotter and will transfer down as can not go up. Venting roof will help but keeping ceiling cooler will help a lot so insulation is indeed a good investment.
  23. It is not hard to find if you know on North side of MTT on Police CIB land. Can enter main entrance to CIB and keep left - or from road under Sirat Expressway. If coming from town Sirat Expressway exit to MTT and drive across Popular Road (North side of MTT) and take first road to right. Will be first building you come too.
