  1. The visa is O - the "A" means pre approved by a Thai diplomatic mission. Any entry using that O-A visa will require insurance and any extension later will require. O visa is seldom issued these days by diplomatic missions for retirement as they prefer the O-A. But immigration can change a visa exempt or tourist visa entry to O visa entry with a form/2,000 baht and proof of meeting age/financials. Once that entry is obtained one year extensions can be made. There is no requirement for special insurance using this method.
  2. The requirement is any extension for retirement using O-A visa. There is no such requirement using O visa. You probably want to arrive on a normal tourist visa entry, change to non immigrant O at immigration after money in bank here and then extend yearly at immigration.
  3. This sounds like a security light situation - as LED's are very low wattage why not just install a normal T8 type LED that turns on with darkness and turns off with daylight? They make special tubes with sensor in them. Have been using one at front of house for several years with no issues (above outside washer) - light is on anytime it is needed.
  4. Been there - but was about 15 years ago when changed from marriage to retirement - Immigration explained as they need to know wife is aware of change due Thai joint ownership laws (that you may be planning on making a wife change) ???? Did next day with wife present and don't believe she was even asked anything. But was never asked for lease as most are so that may have been a positive. About 4 years ago they did start to require TM30 here in Bangkok so then had to pay fine for homeowner never reporting and show that each TM30 receipt each year (along with 90 day report receipt and Google map to residence).
  5. Have not had recently but in past there were about 3 different versions and believe one had thin juice - one was much better than the others but forget exact name.
  6. They are talking about a Thai citizen national ID card.
  7. Believe there are two recommended Royal Thai Consulates that can issue single or multi non immigrant O visas based on marriage to a Thai. Savannakhet in Laos and HCM city in Vietnam. Believe HCM now requires appointment in advance (should be info on web site). Will require marriage proof and note from wife asking that visa be issued to allow you to visit her. HCM also requires payment in USD. Edit: the multi entry allows up to 90 day stays - then you must exit/return for a new 90 day stay. If planning to live here should look to getting 400k into bank account.
  8. When we rewired few decades ago found normal breakers seemed to be 16/32 and stuck with that (but all wires 2.5mm). Most outlets/lights on 16 but kitchen uses several. Reserved the 32 for water heaters. Major cooking by gas.
  9. Actually believe there was 98k in marked bills in one envelope that reportedly was in hand - the other 400k was a total of what was found in office.
  10. The driver does not like driving in heavy traffic due to the fare structure of meter taxi service - which is why there are issues getting a taxi to even use meter during peak travel times in some areas of Bangkok. I said did not agree with action of this driver and agree with action being taken in response - but also know meter taxi drivers are mostly hard working folks just trying to get by - in spite of being painted with a broad brush by many of us.
  11. Actually quite like Ayam brand myself (although not all versions) - but admit I am not English and prefer my beans at noon or night. As for Heinz really not a big fan (although had to eat every Saturday night as a child - US/original version). Can't speak for the UK version - but understand it is not the same.
  12. If fare was 151 baht half way the traffic was indeed dead stop. That road is a main exit path out of Bangkok and on Friday evening would always be packed - and due to the decade long sky train construction blocking half the road and making the usable area torn up expect driver was more than a little upset. Fare structure just does not cover such travel properly. That said driver was clearly at fault for dumping pax and not providing change. But pax ignored rule number one - have correct change.
  13. Todays "can not quote" news source reports no plans for 2023 to import any bivalent vaccine for government use. Will continue to use first generation vaccine/medications. No information if 2nd generation can/will be imported privately.
  14. I have not done as wife birth certificate had been lost in school fire years before (storage was in a government school at the time). But my understanding was office could obtain if in Bangkok national data base and provide. As for MFA not sure if would be needed (as not sure why needed) but am sure any translation service could provide paid service.
  15. As said you can transfer directly from other banks/cards or into Wise account for future transfer (can be faster as money already available). Setting up account does not seem to be hard (they do automatically if you request scheduled transfers). You can also use account for retirement direct payments and then transfer when you want. I do not believe there is any requirement to have funds in account once set up.
  16. I believe any District Office can now download birth certificate data for central storage in Bangkok but not sure that will be accepted legally overseas - perhaps requires additional MFA registration. For most uses there are alternatives available when BC is not available (lost in fire and such was common some years ago). Speaking Thai should be all that is needed if you know details of birth.
  17. Actually believe you will find most homes here are using 1/2 inch water lines for all but main runs and not more than 3/4 inch for those.
  18. From more recent reports this was a sting operation - and he was arrested while receiving marked bribe money.
  19. Spikes work very well for window overhangs and where they can be installed - but they will move to roof or other areas if food is available. And more than a few will actually feed them - making matters worse. Perhaps like wondering cats and dogs - something we learn to live with.
  20. You are aware that immigration was well behind two weeks ago due to the holidays (and perhaps internal issues due major investigations) - 90 day reports that week were taking much longer to process than normal from reports here.
  21. You are aware of how many people died in Thailand due to such point of use heaters? LPG almost never used anymore as just too much danger if not vented properly and people close windows during cold season. If you are talking remote water heaters as used in other countries that would require redo of plumbing in most homes and a space to install (as homes do not have basements here).
  22. What is wrong with that? Good food at good price and providing employment.
  23. Several decades ago water heaters with built in pumps were available here but suspect they have been made illegal to sell as they seemed to go off market shortly after becoming available (and pumping directly from water lines is not allowed). They required a special hose/spray. We had one upcountry but never worked that great from reports and home went to normal tank/pump supply. As an alternative the new flat/round shower heads do make water seem to be at higher pressure and are dirt cheap. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/shower-bath-shower-head-i1835274610-s5544098197.html
  24. I missed the memo but on November 22 public was warned to reject calls with +698 (Thai Sim card from outside country) or +697 (internet call) from unknown persons as likely call center scam calls. (Thai networks add the 3 digit to front of numbers to alert customers). Got one today - recorded Thai message that need to contract bank (which not where have accounts). Just hung up and then checked number and at last got the message. https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/40021975
  25. Do not believe that is the case here in Bangkok, or they would not have been successful for the 30 years I have lived here. They make a small profit but they also know the sellers and buy in bulk so prices are competitive - and more importantly the quality is kept high. But as mentioned if want cheapest price old stock sales from supermarkets are likely to be go to place. That said, not all grannies are rip offs. As for fruit trucks suspect you are talking the parked type are hard to identify - those that work the soi's will have speakers advising what they have (that often could wake the dead).
