  1. Just noticed this topic and here is what I added to your other one:

We were in exactly the same situation as you are and even though they were on endex tablets no matter how many times we washed the dogs or picked the ticks off it was a never ending task, we also have a rai and half and eventually I worked out that unless we could completely break the cycle by wiping out all the ticks that are in the soil over the last few years and through their different life cycles we were wasting our time. In the end we decided to completely break the cycle by getting Professional's in and to date about a year on that has worked brilliantly

We initially got Rentokil to come and have a look but they did not bother answering my emails for a week or so after the inspection so I ended up getting a local crew from here in Huay Yai who the neighbors' recommended and they have been really good

If I remember correctly they came for 1 day a week for 4 week then once every month for a full 12 months for a full year it costs Baht 22,000. They used a lot of chemical and I would not recommend even attempting doing it yourself as there is a lot of equipment needed as well as the chemicals themselves and not to mention the actual spraying

The results were very fast in the dogs(we have 2 large female rotties and a male Doberman and we have had 7 puppies about 6 weeks ago as well!!) after the first couple of sessions the ticks were far fewer in number and now nearly a year on we rarely see any ticks on either the adults or the pups, the other side effect is that all out plants in the garden all look way healthier than they did before the treatment started

It is not an option we really wanted to do but once the land is infested then you need a strong response, our dogs seemed to be losing weight and the ticks were getting into the Dobes ears and driving him mad so they had to go. I am going to keep on getting the land sprayed every month so we don't end up in the same situation further down the line

  3. The other 12 states with red flags on the ICAO's 187 member-countries list: Angola, Botswana, Djibouti, Eritrea, Georgia, Haiti, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Malawi, Nepal, Sierra Leone and Uruguay... according to another publication...

    The company you keep...

    Says it all really.....

  4. Real world riding torque is good I guess but for me I flog my bikes and find I need to regrip the throttle to open it all the way which I do not have to do on the 500.

    Hi Mark

I don't login much these days but was browsing & saw your post

Something you may want to try as a work around on that long pull throttle is a throttle tube with a larger diameter

    take-up

Surprisingly one of the best is the one off the R6 Yamaha & they usually stock them in Thailand Yammie dealers.

    I bought one for a Ninja250 I had

    Here are some pics

The first is the stock Ninja throttle tube

The second the Yamaha replacement & you see the difference

Third is the Yamaha part number

It is not expensive...700 baht if I remember right (with a grip already on & fit inside the stock Kawasaki throttle housing so I am betting it would also fit in the R3 housing

Anyway...........might be something you would like to try as it is much cheaper than a full short throw throttle set & makes the throttle a one grip closed to full affair

***Does not make the throttle touchy at all either***

Cheers Mania, thanks for that definitely worth a look and like you say for B700 nothing really to lose!

  5. That is a lot of Generals.

Seems that Prayuts younger brother has risen through the ranks and gained valuable experience and credentials on the way to the top. He is a veteran soldier that has studied at military school and can certainly bring a wealth of military experience and background to which ever role he is chosen for. Of course being a brother helps, but he is not green as grass and filling a role he has no idea on.

Good to see that Prayut does not follow in thaksins nepotistic footsteps by bringing in completely unqualified and inexperienced relatives for positions that are so obviously out of their depth, but were filled by these relatives simply to fulfil the needs of a criminal at the behest of the majority. Don't need to go past yingluck to see a person fill a position that has no experience or background in politics. Zero experience and it showed. Surapong who filled the defence ministers role, but was clueless in what it entailed. Zero experience and it showed.

If Prayuts younger brother was not a veteran military staff member and then brought in as a General it would get the same response from me that the above people did. If yingluck and surapong were veteran politicans and filled the role while bringing something to it that embedded confidence then they would get the same response from me that Prayut's brother is getting.

It is not the person, it is what they bring to the role.

A veteran soldier who has never fired a shot at anything but a paper target, who, indeed, graduated from military school but it was THAI military school supervised also by people who have no actual combat experience. Diplomas do not a leader make !

Possibly shot at one or two unarmed civilians but I would bet that he has never been on a 2 way range and certainly never been toe to toe with the bad guys

Can the apologists truly say hand on heart that they don't believe this is anything but blatant in your face nepotism??? for me it just shows the complete contempt him and the rest of his ilk have for their own society, they simply don't care and believe they are above the law and you apologists swallow it hook line and sinker, sad!

There have never been any discussion on where the great leader and his family amassed their wealth which is out of all proportion to their earnings, they talk about stamping out this and that but it is nothing but hot air, nothing will change until the military and the Hi So's are harnessed and made accountable, wont hold my breath....

Any society that has a hard reset button in the form of a coup for use by the elite every time they feel threatened is destined to keep on repeating the same <deleted>, nothing is allowed to change and to a certain point the Thai people deserve all they get, hard to feel sorry for all the apathy and weakness they show...

  6. Some interesting posts. The only thing that has consistently worked for me is a very visible helmet cam on top of my helmet (SJ4000). They don't want to ask for/take a bribe while being filmed from 2 feet away with a HD camera pointed directly at their face. Not worth the risk.

I have found exactly the same using the same camera only difference I have mine on the chin bar, as soon as they see it they just want to get rid of you, a lot of the time I don't even bother switching it on but they don't know that and it works like a charm every time

The most I get now since using the camera is a quick license check a salute and offski but most often I am just waved straight through as soon as they notice the camera....

  7. Thanks to the guys that recommended Bangkok Bank and their 2nd Road branch, just had an email from the missus that she went to that branch and the international payment to Malaysia mentioned in the OP that wasted the best part of a day (and which Krungsri still could not manage to send even after hours and numerous phone calls!!) has now been paid. Not bad seeing as we are not even members of that bank yet, she also mentioned it was a pain free process so thanks again for the recommend!!

  8. http://www.nationmultimedia.com/politics/Army-reform-is-essential-and-overdue-30190682.html

take a look at the date of this article, and all you reformists can take a crack at what I have been saying all along, was the same thing this article was stating !! wink.png

Really good article and proves Thailand is doomed to keep on making the same mistakes time after time just so the 'good' people can keep a stranglehold on their poorer citizens, I can understand the Thai elite to an extent as it is all they know and they believe it is their right, the western pro junta supporters are something else though as they have usually had all the advantages that come with being born in a democracy yet don't believe the Thai people they profess to support should have that right, stinks of hypocrisy to me....

  9. I had a look at the new Bennelis and the 300 and 600 both look nice, I test rode the 600 and it is a really nice bike to ride and sounds awesome but the lack of ABS on both and uncertainty of servicing was the killer for me, I really hope they do well as more choice can only be a good thing but it will get the China bike haters frothing at the mouth though...

  10. Thanks. What was your issue with the 250 Ninja that you didn't like? Road killers? Are you referring to the stock tires? Sorry, didn't quite follow all that.

I still like the Ninja 250 it is a nice ride but the R3 is in a different class altogether......

It feels much more powerful all over the rev range and I have tried to follow my wife when she is on the on the R3 (who is not the fastest rider) and I simply cannot keep up.

If we go for a ride the Ninja cannot keep up with the CBX and I find it frustrating having to keep slowing down plus overtaking on the Ninja takes a lot more planning than the R3 or CBX who seem to be pretty much the same in that respect

It's more modern with a really good instrument panel with all the useful stuff and gear indicator and upshift light not to forget a fuel gauge! It has good breaks with ABS as standard and both the rider and pillion seat are way more comfortable with the pillion being much higher and getting a better view of the road

The riding position is also much more comfortable for me as it is more upright with less pressure on the wrists but again that could be a personal thing as I am now more used to the upright position on the CBX

I never liked the IRC roadwinners that where standard on the Ninja and quickly changed them for Pirelli Sport Demons which transformed the bike, we got the Ninja second hand so that could be why the tires where so hard and slippy and they might have been different when new however the Michelins on the R3 are really good and give pretty good feedback but who knows maybe they will harden as time passes too and we will end up with Pirellis on there too, time will tell but as I said yesterday I like the R3 and have no regrets and hopefully it will stay that way

  11. I don't understand where people are coming from ref the money and tax thing, it is pretty much the same price as the Ninja 300 which is I think made in Thailand and the only other twin in the small market, for a slightly more powerful and modern bike that's a bit lighter and in my opinion better looking it is a good price, would be nice if it was the same price as the Honda and Kawasaki singles but unless they decide to commit financial hari kari that aint never gonna happen

True you can pick up a used bike for a really good price and that is always an option as there are some bargains out there but for me this is a different bike and a different proposition entirely but others probably think differently and that is good too

Ref the Honda 500's I really like them and I have 23,000k on my CBX and no plans to sell but the R3 is a different ride altogether and it is very nice having the option to ride both as they are completely different, if I could only choose one I would stick with the CBX mainly due to the upright riding position and the fact I have a box on it and when I ride the R3 to the shops the lack of the box is a naus, dare say I could fit one but it would look ridiculous so I wont

  12. Real world riding torque is good I guess but for me I flog my bikes and find I need to regrip the throttle to open it all the way which I do not have to do on the 500. I would still buy the R3 again as it is different ride to the 500 and for me a bit more involving, the power and acceleration are good and it is really suprising what a small bike with 320cc can do, thinking about it the missus on the R3 could probably leave me on the CBX if she really wanted to because of the weight difference and I reckon the R3 is a good alternative to the CBR500, I am not technical with the sprocket changes but there are quite a few reviews out now and most seem to be fairly positive

edited to say that actually the R3 is made in Indonesia but the quality and fit and finish are all good as is the price

  13. Directly across the traffic lights from Big C South Pattaya ??Wittaya Marine or something like that, they also sell the big KTM's and Yamaha Super Teneres and used to have Triumph's in the other building behind the Yamaha showroom if you have a big wedge burning a hole in your pocket....

edit ref the test ride for me it was literally a couple of spins up and down the yard and not an ideal way to see what a bike can do, that said I had made up my mind to get it so did not really push for more, if you did and they thought you where serious I reckon they would let you take it onto Sukumvit

  14. The R3 costs about 185,000 baht, I have one as well as a CB500X and it is a really good fun little bike, probably hasn't quite got the top end of the 500 and you sometimes miss the torque and have to work the gears a bit more but it is good fun and there really aint a lot in it, it is more than enough for the Thai roads and also strangely comfortable which I was not expecting

It has some nice bells and whistles with the gear change light and gear indicator. When I got it I was a little nervous with the Michelin Street Pilots that it comes with as I had seen a couple of reviews that said they could be better but actually they are fine and I have not had any dodgy moments unlike with the Road Killers on the old Ninja 250

I really like it as if I go out with the Missus unlike when she used the Ninja 250 now she has the same safety with the ABS as me and absolutely no problem keeping up or overtaking traffic, like I say very different to the Honda 500's but in a good way!

edited to say in my experience while the bike is great the service from Honda Big Wing is in a completely different class and the place where I bought mine in Pattaya where rubbish, I am not expecting any issues but I would not be filled with confidence after watching how long it took them to do the service and fit a tail tidy, time will tell but I don't have any regrets at all after 1500k

  15. Maybe electric bike doesn't count but his 23rd win on the Senior TT certainly does, now matching Mike Halewood as all time most successful TT rider on 7 Senior TT wins and touching distance to Joey Dunlop's all time best of 26, not bad for a 43 year old podgy fellow from Morecambe on a Honda when most people are saying the new Bmw and Yam R1's are in another class, just goes to show some people are just born with balls of steel no matter what bike you put them on ...!

edited to say personally I think ANYBODY who has the balls to ride a TT let alone win one in any category is firkin nails and to take your life in your hands like that is something special!!

  16. Thanks for the update Litlos!

I have a Kasikorn account and like the rest it works well for any small cash in cash out stuff but I get the impression if I asked for anything out of the ordinary they would be just as bad as Krungsri, don't know for certain as I don't use them very often now but they gave me that impression hence why I did most things through Krungsri until recently

If I could sort out a regular Foreign Currency Deposit for my wages with a bank that can also do basic International stuff that is all I really want, I would be happy and if they have internet banking that would be a bonus!! tbh I am not overly wanting something which requires transferring my wages in as I have found that all the Thai banks I have used have been a complete pain in the shitter when asked to do anything even slightly out of the ordinary

I don't do online trading and nor am I some International jetsetter, I do get a good wage paid in GBP every month and just require a bank that is not populated by idiots masquerading as bank staff who have the ability to do basic banking tasks without myself or the wife spending hours getting messed about, I know that's a tough ask in this country to expect a person to be able to do their job to a reasonable standard......

  17. Thanks for the replies guys much appreciated I nearly didn't post as I expected it to turn into the usual bitch fest so I am pleasantly surprised!

I will give Bangkok Bank a look when I get home but Litlos if you have any information about setting up the Citibank Singapore I would be really interested as I am pretty much disillusioned with Thai levels of service and ineptitude so even if it costs a bit more it might be the way ahead for me...

  18. At the moment I am out of Thailand working but wanted to book a course in Malaysia for mid July, should not be a problem I thought....wrong!!

As background we have been in Thailand coming up for 5 years and have banked with Krungsri for most of that time including getting my wages paid into their Foreign Currency deposit. I had a fair chunk in there and also have a couple of current accounts with them as well

I have noticed over the past few years that the branch we use is getting worse and worse. They are Ok at basic paying cash in or taking it out (so long as it is small amounts!!) but absolutely anything other than those basic tasks requires a lot of time and several phone calls to BKK, they truly seem unable to do anything by themselves

Today the wife attended after going in the day before and being told that foreign transfers need to be done before 15:00 hours, no problem will do! on getting there this morning with all the paperwork from the company in Malaysia including all the account details address swift code etc the usual circus commences

'Need invoice'---you have the invoice it is the email with the letterhead saying on payment of the bill through the Account number /swift code then I am booked on this course with this company and it costs MYR 3223

'Cannot work out the price'---- It costs MYR3223 you can either tell us how much in Baht or transfer as MYR as I do not really care if it is a couple of thousand baht more, I just want to be sure it is paid----cannot because every day the exchange rate changes, no shit isn't that what banking is all about!!!---- Cannot work out the price....

Ok no good speaking to the monkey at the desk so can I speak to the manager as every time we do anything in this bank it is a nightmare, 'not here but if you come back later will be in' Ok will do that then...

My missus goes back later and spent another 2 hours being messed around and waiting on inept staff who patently have no clue of how to do their job, several more phone calls to BKK still no clearer on how much it costs to send the basic International transfer to Thailand's close neighbor and soon to be AEC partner Malaysia

In summary I have given up and the wife has closed all the accounts and withdrawn everything other than the $500 deposit in the Foreign Currency Account which I will withdraw as soon as I get home and sort out an alternative. My wife is not loud or gobby but in her words she lost it with them today and ended up making a scene due to their complete inability to do their jobs

The missus withdrew 1.4million baht and stopped an account that has had a large monthly wage paid in for over 4 years as well as 2 current accounts that were well used and I wont use that Bank again ever due to the clowns who work there. All this has happened because the staff are absolutely useless problem is I now need to find if there is any Thai bank in Pattaya that is staffed with slightly less cretins than the old Branch and are able to do basic bank transfers without it turning into another farce like todays epic

I am not holding my breath but thought I would ask.....

  19. Every time I go to BKK now for passport or embassy stuff or most anything else really I have found driving to Swampy then leaving the car on the airport car-park costs about 300baht for the day then a quick stroll over to the Sktrain and BTS, for me this is by far the easiest and least stressful option. I needed a work visa a few years ago and made the mistake of driving into BKK, never again it took way longer and lifted the stress level right off the scale, probably more expensive than the coach to do this way but for me by far the best....

  20. SJCAM SJ4000 Wifi Action Camera

    Lazada Thailand

Baht 3490 with extra battery and charger

A really good bit of kit, comes with many fittings that work for Go Pro with multiple fittings for helmets and bars. I have actually been using it with the Velcro straps that are supplied and fitted to the chin bar of my helmet using the 2nd case that though not completely waterproof works really well in this position and holds the camera very securely

Picture wise the camera is way better than the price would suggest especially when you put it against the Go Pro series and as far as I am concerned the picture is very good at 1080p 30 fps. The audio is not such a strong point in that it is quite muted and when used as I have described fitted to the chin bar in the unsealed case you do get quite a lot of wind noise

Playback is easy and you can use VLC or any standard player and the data is recorded on a normal removable Micro SD card. Mine also can be viewed on IOS or Android mobile over wifi but I have a windows phone so have never tried it though having watched several online reviews through a guy called Techmoan (google him the reviews are very good and in depth) the wifi functionality does work but is a bit unrefined

I also have a windscreen sucker mount which works with another case that is included to turn it into a dashcam, this works really well for me as I might go a week without using the truck so gives me the option to swap and change plus it works really well as a car cam just plug/unplug as needed

In summary I think it is a really good extra layer of insurance with the added benefit of it gets you waved through most checkpoints, it certainly does not look or feel cheap and the ease of use and quality of the picture is really good. I get about an hour recording time per battery so having the extra and external charger covers me though tbh I have never changed the battery mid ride. I would highly recommend it.....
