Cha-Am Beach Viewpoint Getting A Big Makeover By Editor In a surprise for many locals, the arrival of heavy equipment has seen the Cha-Am viewpoint, a very significant feature of the central Cha-Am beach viewpoint, now becoming a construction site. By Editor In a surprise for many locals, the arrival of heavy equipment has seen the Cha-Am viewpoint, a very significant feature of the central Cha-Am beach viewpoint, now becoming a construction site. A visit on Thursday 2nd November, revealed the early stages of a project which workers on-site say will see an extension and beautification of the viewpoint with an improved surface, lighting and other features. The Cha-Am Municipality remains silent on this development and no signage is visible at the site. The viewpoint has long been the focus of events such as food festivals, markets, concerts and the occasional Muay Thai tournament as well as private occasions such as weddings or corporate events. The downside to this project may relate to timing, with the arrival this month of an eagerly awaited high season and with workers saying the contractual obligations allow for the completion to take up to 12 months. The viewpoint project follows recent changes to the beach with the construction of steps along the coastline descending down to the beach aiming to address the issues of the beach erosion. With the viewpoint makeover now taking place behind the statue of Prince Narathip looking back down the main beach approach road, let’s hope that the founding father of modern Cha-Am will approve these changes to one of the region’s main tourism attractions. Naew Na Thai Caption: Nan monk accused of sexual molestation of novice for 2 years Naew Na reported on the case of a monk and teacher from a well known temple in Nan, northern Thailand. It is alleged that the monk abused a novice monk for two years. Other children may also be involved. The mother of the novice was perturbed by some strange posts of her son. When she got to the truth of what was happening to him she went to the police to prosecute the monk to the full extent of the law. She was shocked by what had happened. The novice said that since he was ordained he was invited to stay in the monk's quarters but he initially refused. But later the monk started caressing his cheeks and kissing him. This then got worse as the boy studied secondary school work with the monk, a teacher. He was repeatedly subjected to anal intercourse and oral stimulation to climax. Other novices were also molested. Rape tests are underway, said a member of the Muang Nan police. An arrest warrant has been issued. The monk got wise and has fled. He was also a religious studies teacher at a Nan school, said Naew Na. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Easing of Thai Property Ownership Attracts Wealthy International Buyers by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - Non-resident buying of Thai properties could more than double that of pre-pandemic levels amid government easing of ownership rules. by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - Non-resident buying of Thai properties could more than double that of pre-pandemic levels amid government easing of ownership rules. According to the Real Estate Information Center (REIC), annual registrations of houses and condominiums by foreigners could potentially reach upwards of 100 billion baht (US$2.6 billion) when the proposed easing kicks off. According to REIC, annual non-resident purchases were about 50 billion baht during the pre-pandemic period. The government aims to accelerate Thailand’s post-pandemic economic recovery by allowing foreigners to purchase residential land if they invest a minimum of 40 million baht for at least three years. Non-residents are currently only allowed to own condominium units. Following Cabinet endorsement last week, the proposal has been forwarded to the Office of the Council of State and relevant government agencies for further assessment before receiving final approval. UPDATE: Police inspect entertainment venues in 6 locations throughout Bangkok by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - 200 police officers were deployed to inspect entertainment venues around Bangkok last night, with no serious issues being discovered. Police inspect entertainment venues in 6 locations throughout Bangkok by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - 200 police officers were deployed to inspect entertainment venues around Bangkok last night, with no serious issues being discovered. Meanwhile, the chief of the police force is warning entertainment venue operators to keep in line with laws and regulations. A 5-year closure order will be enforced on venues that violate regulations on narcotics, guns, and opening time. Royal Thai Police Deputy Commissioners Torsak Sukvimol and Surachate Hakparn led about 200 police officers to inspect entertainment venues in 6 locations throughout Bangkok. The venues inspected were believed to potentially belong to foreign owners and run through nominees. The venues included KBangkok, Space, Hollywood, Brooz, Asgard, and Baby Face. The police officers conducted random urine tests and gun searches among venue customers. They also made sure there were no minors under the age of 18 present at each venue. Pol. Gen. Torsak said the inspection aimed to search for guns, narcotics, and underaged minors inside the entertainment venues. He indicated any establishment found to have violated laws governing the aforementioned issues will be ordered close for 5 years. The owner of any place ordered closed but continuing to operate under the radar face a prison sentence of 1 year. The deputy police chief said entertainment venues have the responsibility of preventing issues of narcotics, guns, and underage customers. He acknowledged foreign investors illegally operating entertainment venues in a mafia-like fashion has become a problem. The police force is aware of the significance of this matter and local police units have been told to strictly inspect and suppress this activity. Pol. Gen. Surachate said preliminary inspection did not discover wrongdoings at any of the venues inspected last night (31 October). Traces of narcotics were found in the urine of 3 customers but no narcotic substance was found on their persons. Pol. Gen. Surachate noted this figure of positive urine results was very low, and the entertainment venues provided authorities with their cooperation.
