Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath went to the historical ruins in Ayutthaya after Forbes Advisor named them as one of 50 must see locations post pandemic. They reported that an ever increasing number of foreign tourists and tour groups were visiting the ruins. Guides told them that tourism to Thailand was getting better and better as the pandemic fades into memory. Tourists were pictured at a reclining Buddha. In the 1700's Ayutthaya was a huge center of culture and trade and was bigger than Paris back in the day. It fell into ruin after being sacked by the Burmese heralding the start of the Chakri Dynasty of kings based in Bangkok. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Firebrand Chuwit speaks of "Five Grey Tigers" - Chinese must be thrown out of Thailand Picture: Daily News Former politician and TV presenter Chuwit Kamolwisit spoke to the press outside the police association on Viphavadee Road in Bangkok. Picture: Daily News Former politician and TV presenter Chuwit Kamolwisit spoke to the press outside the police association on Viphavadee Road in Bangkok, reported Daily News. His comments came as senior RTP officers took action against several Chinese pub and business owners. Chuwit called them "Five Grey Tigers" and named them as David, Chang Foey, Tony and Iaw plus one other unnamed Chinese person. Four have been arrested according to Chuwit as the Royal Thai Police continue investigations into illegality regarding drugs, weapons and online gambling. He said that the businesses used Thai names of people that were already dead. Picture: Daily News And it was all connected to so called "Zero Dollar" tours. These are businesses where everything comes from China and where money is siphoned out of the country back to the Asian giant. Thais don't benefit at all. Except some corrupt officials who took bribes. Chuwit said the police action was well overdue and the RTP should be allowed to complete their investigation. He called for the Chinese to be deported and said that bad things should happen to the police who took bribes. He said the Chinese men were well-connected. Last week Chuwit presented a dossier to Pol Gen Surachate "Big Joke" Hakpan. The poster boy cop of the RTP is seen by many as an honest man of action who is finally getting the force to investigate the illegal activities of the Chinese in Thailand. In related stories dozens of residences were the subject of search warrants yesterday and many luxury cars owned by David were seized. Picture: INN In related news INN reported that RTP deputies Pol Gen Torsak Sukhwimon and Gen Surachate had searched 42 places. The top cops appeared with Chuwit who was pictured on the mic as they announced the results of search warrants. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. "David" the Chinese in the frame as RTP continue action against foreign owned pubs in Bangkok and Pattaya Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported on continuing action by large numbers of officers against Chinese owned pubs in Bangkok and Pattaya. Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported on continuing action by large numbers of officers against Chinese owned pubs in Bangkok and Pattaya. They are investigating claims that the pubs are centers for illegality involving drugs, weapons and gambling. And in the crosshairs of RTP deputies Gen Torsak Sukhwimon and Pol Gen Surachate "Big Joke" Hakpan was one high profile pub owner called "David" - he is also known as Sui Tai Woey. He has a Thai wife and children that go to school in the kingdom. He has been in the country for ten years. "David" was a key individual named by firebrand former MP and TV presenter Chuwit Kamolwisit in press briefings. His activities were also believed to be outlined in a brown envelope dossier handed by Chuwit to Big Joke last week. David is being investigated for conspiracy to defraud customs and irregularities in connection with the ownership of luxury automobiles. Some 100 million baht's worth of red plate luxury cars were seized by the two generals at his residence in Soi Charoenmit off Ekkamai (Soi 63) in downtown Bangkok. He is also believed to be involved in illegal online gambling and money laundering. Warrants were issued for searches of 35 residences connected to the owners of Top One in Sutthisan, Jin Ling in Yannawa (David is not the owner of this establishment said the media), Club One in Pattaya and Baby Face pub, owned by David. The search warrants were enacted in Bangkok (17), Chonburi (11), Samut Prakan and Chumphon (2 each) and one each in Nonthaburi, Samut Sakhon and Khon Kaen. Thai nominees were used to front the pubs. In addition seven pubs in Bangkok were checked. Some 329 patrons were checked for drug taking, but just one was positive. The pubs were three in Huay Khwang called Asgard, Booze and Hollywood. Three in RCA Plaza were checked. These are K Bangkok, Joy Luck and Space Plus. David's Baby Face pub in Ekkamai was also checked. A total of 700 police officers took part in the searches yesterday. Police said there was evidence opf drug taking at David's house. This came after widespread drug taking - 104 Chinese tourists tested positive - at Jin Ling last week and other investigations in Pattaya. Three police officers in Pattaya are also under investigation for their assistance for illegal activity at the eastern seaboard resort. Elsewhere in the news Chuwit appeared with generals Torsak and Surachate as more warrants were served yesterday. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath reported that foreign tourists were arriving in Thailand at their highest numbers since the pandemic decimated the industry. And that the numbers were set to go up and up from now on. On Sunday pictures were shared on social media of large crowds of visitors at the incoming passport check at Suvarnabhumi airport. Picture: Siam Rath Spokesman Maj-Gen Cherngron Rimphadee said that the pictures were true. Sunday was particularly busy from 1 - 5 pm when 76 flights arrived, nearly 20 an hour. There were 3,000-4,000 people to process. The worst period was 2-4pm. Region 2 chief Maj-Gen Montree Pancharoen arranged so that all booths were manned so that waiting time to complete immigration formalities was less than one hour. Immigration had to make checks on visa, biometrics, call center criminals, blacklisted individuals and people bent on making trouble at the APEC meeting. Picture: Siam Rath Despite all these checks they managed to limit the time at the booth to under 45 seconds for each passenger. The spokesman said that immigration chief Pol Lt-Gen Phoomphiphat Sajjaphan had put great store on facilitating tourists since the country opened up on November 1st last year after the pandemic. Picture: Siam Rath An additional 27 booths making a total of 119 will be available from today so that 6,500 passengers could be dealt with per hour at Bangkok's main airport. The AOT were also helping with crowd control and initial check of documents to speed things up. He said that RTP chief Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat was determined to facilitate tourism for the economic good of the country. At this time 45,000 to 50,000 tourists are arriving at Thai airports and land borders each day and that figure is set to increase continually. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. He said the government was listening and weighing the concerns being raised very carefully. The deputy leader of the new Thai Future Party and a former Democrat Party MP from Phatthalung has warned that Thais will soon be excluded from upmarket residential areas dominated by Chinese and foreign homeowners except for small stallholders on the side of the road selling snacks and drug addicts dallying in alleyways. It came in a scathing criticism of the government’s flagship policy targeting one million foreigners to come and live in Thailand while offering them the right to buy land for homes. It comes as, on Monday, the leader of the Thai Civilised Party, Mr Mongkolkit Suksintharanon, led a delegation to the Office of the Ombudsman seeking a constitutional review of the current measure agreed upon last Tuesday. The government’s legal advisor Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam, this Tuesday, indicated that the government may be bowing to rising public anger and pressure over the controversial proposal. There are already strong indicators that the government may be backing down on the decision by the cabinet on October 25th last which agreed to a Ministry of Interior measure to sell residential land to foreigners in plots of up to 1 rai in connection with inward investment into the country and an ambitious new long term visa programme linked with investment.
