  1. File photo. For information purposes only. By Online Reporter A new four lane expressway which will link Nakhon Pathom with Tha Yang in Phetchaburi is set to improve travel between the region and central Thailand. The expressway, officially titled the Intercity Highway No. 8, Nakhon Pathom – Cha-am route, also known as the M8, will stretch 109 kilometers and should help to reduce the time it takes to drive to and from Hua Hin, Cha Am, Phetchaburi and Nakhon Pathom and in to Bangkok. According to the Ministry of Transport, the M8 will connect with the Intercity Highway – Bang Yai – Kanchanaburi (M81) at the Nakhon Chai Sri Interchange in Nakhon Pathom, ending on the National Highway No. 4 at the 188 kilometre marker in Tha Yang. The M8 expressway will be a combination of roads and elevated structures with bridges being used to cross sections of existing local roads, rivers and areas which consist of soft soil. This will help to mitigate the impact of land expropriation, the Ministry of Transport says. 3. 77kaoded Thai Caption: Beware! Marijuana seeds for sale con The chief of the Department of Medical Sciences warned members of the public not to buy seeds from criminals who claim that their seeds are officially registered and recognised by their department. Suphakij Sirilak said that this referred to marijuana strains known as Hang Krarok Phuphan ST 1 and others. ASEAN NOW notes that Hang Krarok - or squirrel's tail is a variety of marijuana more commonly known as Thai Stick. It is sold far more cheaply than other strains that have more pungent flowers. Suphakij said that for years the department has been doing studies but the public will need to wait a while before seeds and seedlings have their stamp of approval. It was all about quality checks. One herbal center group has certified one strain called Tanaosri Kan Daeng RD1 that guarantees "feminized seeds" in 99% of cases. This strain has a high cannabinoid content and can be used to propagate the species, reported 77kaoded. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-30 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 7. From Thursday (September 1), COVID-19 patients can buy prescription antiviral medicines from pharmacies, as authorities ease access to weapons against the virus. “Health agencies are offering easier access to these medications while still guarding the safety of patients,” said Dr. Udom Kachintorn, chair of Thailand’s committee on public health reform. Pharmacists will be able to fill prescriptions for Favipiravir, Molnupiravir, and Paxlovid. Pharmacies are required to purchase these drugs from importers certified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and record all sales to customers. The records will be monitored by authorities just like steroid sales. Licensed suppliers can sell antiviral medicines to hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies in line with the regulations. Prices will not be controlled as the government believes market competition will ensure fairness and affordability. 9. Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath reported on posts and videos uploaded to the site of Muang Prakan v2 after yesterday's extraordinary storm in Bangkok and surrounding areas. In what many described as a hellish storm the sky turned black in the early morning - instead of daybreak it was more like the time after sunset. In the area of the Praeksa municipal dump in the Praeksa Mai area of Samut Prakan thousands of birds of all varieties took to the skies for several minutes before settling on trees and bushes. After the storm as the skies cleared they returned to their scavenging activities at the dump. Locals said in years of the birds being there they had never seen the like of it. Thai media has reported many different angles after Bangkokians woke to extraordinary sights in the skies over the Thai capital. One scientist said it was a clear sign of climate change - and things would only get worse. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-30 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 15. Picture: Sanook Sanook reported on a feel good story after a TikTok video was posted by meenaxsr900. The video featured a group of what the Thais call "Big Bikers" who were showing consideration to a neighborhood community. The bikers were wheeling their high powered machines instead of revving them and creating annoyance because there was a sleeping baby in one of the houses. They wheeled past then started their engines further down the road. The post spoke of "greng jai" a Thai term that is widely used to mean showing consideration for someone else or their feelings. It is a trait that Thais are particularly proud of. The poster joked that the bikers looked like thieves in the night but praised the group. The video was liked nearly 40,000 times and received widespread comment. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-30 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 22. Daily News Thai Caption: Absolutely forbidden! Acting PM Prawit Wongsuwan - named as caretaker last week after the constitutional court suspended Prayuth Chan-ocha amid suggestions his eight year tenure had come to an end - took little time to try and reign in the Royal Thai Police. At yesterday's first meeting of the Police Commission - a commitee previously chaired by Prayuth - Prawit demanded action from the police to clean up their act. The RTP - that critics say is merely a mafia organisation in brown - were told by Prawit at the meeting: No more bribes No inappropriate behaviour at all No corruption in any shape or form The RTP were to offer no favors and follow the law to the letter. Or else. Prawit instructed all commanders to ensure that anyone who disobeys his commands be dealt with according to disciplinary procedures and/or the law itself. Prawit's bark against the RTP was #5 on a list of five orders as reported after the meeting by spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Yingyot Thepjamnong. It was no surprise that Daily News picked up on this for their headline containing the name "Big Pom" - Prawit's nickname. "Pom" means round or plump, as well as fortress, notes ASEAN NOW. Picture: Daily News Prawit is well known for his penchant for overindulgence in a culinary capacity. Other orders on Prawit's watch as reported by Yingyot were for the RTP to get tough on drugs, illegal migrants, tech crime including call centers and online weapons' sales and loan sharking. Moments earlier RTP commander Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk had addressed the press. Suwat is retiring at the end of September and the meeting was being held to rubber stamp choices for his successor and in total confirm the selection of 254 senior officers who will take up positions at the start of October. This is the period of the annual reshuffle. Suwat refused to be drawn on who his successor will be telling the press that there were various legal reasons why they would have to wait. The law is the law and the RTP have to follow that, he suggested hopefully. The new chief of the Thai police - reportedly already selected by Prayuth - will be the 13th. The Thai public will be hoping that number is not unlucky but might herald some change in the activities of their police force. But no one will be holding their breath. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-30 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. "Auspicious" Bo Tree comes down in storm - later in the day firemen make gruesome discovery Picture: Thai Rath Firemen in the Bang Chalong area of Bang Plee, Samut Prakan, made a gruesome discovery after a large Bo Tree fell down from a garden into the Bang Chalong canal. 24. Picture: Thai Rath Firemen in the Bang Chalong area of Bang Plee, Samut Prakan, made a gruesome discovery after a large Bo Tree fell down from a garden into the Bang Chalong canal. Submerged under the water in a tangle of twigs and branches was the body of a man who had been riding a motorcycle. Thanawat Ngamyiam, 38, a factory worker from Samut Prakan had drowned. Bunlert, the owner of the house said that the Bo Tree had been on the banks of the klong for years and he left it there when he built a house on the land seven years ago as it provided shade and was an auspicious tree, reported Thai Rath. Bo trees are an integral part of the Buddhist religion, notes ASEAN NOW. There is a temple adjacent to the property. Firemen had initially arrived on the scene to survey the damage caused by the fallen tree but did not begin their clearing work because the electricity lines that had fallen were still live. They were unaware that there was a motorcycle under the branches. Later shoes and a helmet were found then a leg was seen under the water after a fireman inadvertently dropped a knife used for cutting in the water. Police accepted that there was no foul play and that the man had clearly been on his way to work when the tree fell on him in the storm propelling him into the klong. An autopsy was ordered. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-30 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
