It has been three months since the end of the season and now we can look forward to sitting in the grandstand and watching live football again. This week Pattaya Dolphins United paraded their full squad and sponsors for the 2022/23 season to great fanfare and noise at Central Festival on Pattaya’s beach road. Through several major sponsors and the pockets of the clubs’ owners, this year’s team includes several Brazilian players and even an English player too. Last season the team missed out in the national playoffs in gaining a place in the Thai League division 2. This season with the new signings and a new coach everyone is confident of moving up a league. Sell Off A few years back the local supporters were welcoming the mighty Buriram FC with over 7,000 attending. Then much to the surprise of the local fans, the previous owner of the club then called Pattaya United decided to sell the team which was playing in the prestigious Thai Premiere league to another city. So eventually a new owner came in and Pattaya Dolphins United was born. The Thai’s love their football and the Pattaya Dolphins even have a very noisy group of supporters and drummers aptly named The Dangerous Family. They can make more noise than the cop! It is surprising to also see a large number of expat supporters turn up to every match. Many who still support Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Southampton, and Chelsea still like to enjoy a 90-minute match here in Pattaya. Although not up to the standards of Gabriel Jesus or Karim Benzema, some of last season’s matches had as much passion and drama on and off the field. At one match the police even had to escort the ref off the field at the final whistle. The banter in the stands is fantastic, with one German fan often seen waving his own red card at players or the referee. The first home game for the 2022 season is at the club’s Nong Prue stadium is on Sunday 18th September at 18.00hrs against Marines FC. Just THB80 to get into the main grandstand, and even the beer is cool! For more information check out the Pattaya United International Fan Club on Facebook page. It already has 2,400 members. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-31 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Naew Na Naew Na reported on a grim tale of violence playing out between a 20 year old man called An, his ex girlfriend referred to only as "B", 20, and B's new boyfriend Tae, 18. An fron Ban Jan, Ban Dung, Udon Thani in the NE of Thailand along with two friends attacked Tae who comes from a neighboring village. They used a knife and a harpoon attachment. Tae told the media that he had arranged to meet B in Soi Wat Buraphawan. Before he got to their rendezvous area he came up against An and two friends who were riding on two bikes. He was chased and narrowly avoided being hit by a knife that was wielded at him. He subsequently came off his own vehicle and sought refuge in a house. As he did so An followed him and picked up the harpoon attachment that was lying about the property and swung it at his stomach narrowly missing entering his abdomen. The commotion alerted the householder who said they were calling the police. An fled with his friends. Tae credited his survival with a picture of his dad that he keeps in his wallet. He said that B had split up with An a year ago but he refused to let her move on with her life. He had already threatened him with a gun at his house if he didn't leave her alone. Now following the latest incident he had sent B a video message telling her that if she doesn't stop seeing him "It'll be you next - for sure". Police are preparing charges of assault, attempted murder and theft against An. Tae said he wanted the full force of the law to come down on An who clearly wants him dead. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-30 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Woman claims she was raped by bogus cop at house in Nonthaburi - "corporal" was using dating app Picture: 77kaoded Bang Bua Thong police in Nonthaburi were alerted by relatives of a young woman who claims she was raped by a man posing as a policeman. Picture: 77kaoded Bang Bua Thong police in Nonthaburi were alerted by relatives of a young woman who claims she was raped by a man posing as a policeman. The police went to a house in Bang Rat Pattana sub-district where they found a woman aged 20 in tears. The assailant was hiding in the toilet but soon emerged. He was Wiraphat Thamthip, 27. Drugs, drug taking equipment and a fake gun were found at the property. The suspect had a previous offence in 2018 for pretending to be a drugs suppression policeman under the name of Sema Prajan on Facebook. Now he had moved to a dating app and was variously pretending to be a lance corporal in the police or a corporal in the commandoes. Picture: 77kaoded In an initial interrogation the suspect denied raping the woman and said she had come over to his house willingly to stay the night. He claimed that he wanted her to go home but she wouldn't leave. He admitted that he was not a policeman but a security guard. He claimed that the security company had put a rank on his ID as that helped him in his work. Picture: 77kaoded The chief of the Bang Bua Thong police said they were waiting on a rape test from a hospital. But the suspect who has a lot of drug convictions is being charged with drug taking, illegal detention, rape and assault. While he did not claim to be a policeman on this occasion the use of the title on his ID shows his intentions. 77kaoded said that the police were asking other potential victims of the bogus cop to come forward. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-30 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
