Cap: Man attacks (his own) dog to sarcastically get back at neighbor An unpleasant video was posted on the Facebook page of Watchdog Thailand Foundation (WTF) when a man attacked a dog in the street in Chiang Mai. It happened in Busarakham Road in Phra Singh sub-district on Monday. In the video a man repeatedly attacks the dog with an iron rod. The dog eventually manages to get away. A neighbor is filming. The man - seemingly smiling - then turns on the neighbor making as if to punch her Muay Thai style. The neighbor had tried to stop the violence against the dog, reported Sanook. She says: "Are you happy now?" as expletives are hurled. Suphanee Jankhamai of WTF went to local vets and then along with police went to the house of the man who did the attack. He appeared to be home inside with his dog but police were as yet powerless to enter. A lead attached to a motorcycle was outside the terraced house. A vet said this was a clear case of animal abuse for which the owner could be jailed for two years and/or fined 40,000 baht. Police said the man in the video is the owner of the dog and attacked his own pet in an apparent sarcastic attack to get back at a neighbor who had complained about the dog rummaging through trash in the street. The neighbor (perhaps the woman who filmed the clip but not confirmed) had called for the dog to be punished. The police also said that the man involved was sometimes good to his pet sometimes bad. He had been seen taking the dog out on trips but also attacking it. Once the dog was left tied to railings outside the house. Its desperate cries had to be ignored by neighbors who were fearful of attack by the unstable man. The WTF want the animal taken into care and action taken against the owner. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Traffy Fondue is the latest must-have app for Bangkokians after new city governor Chadchart Sittipunt touted the innovation as key to improving the quality of life in the capital. On June 2, Chadchart explained how the app empowers residents to take control of problems they encounter in the city. “People can conveniently lodge a complaint and get feedback over Traffy Fondue,” he said. What is Traffy Fondue? While its name is reminiscent of a Swiss cheese dish, Traffy Fondue in fact stands for Thai slang that translates as “Dear brothers and sisters, go complain!”. As the name suggests, Traffy Fondue encourages users to report everyday city problems – uneven pavements, blocked access, no garbage collection, etc – so they can be fixed. Picture: Siam Rath The parents of a 12 year old child have gone to the Sri Racha police over an incident at a Surasak sub-district school that left their daughter in hospital for six days. Surat Pree-udom, 36, and his wife Pojaman, 40, took their child along with a medical certificate from Somdej hospital. They asked for action to be taken against a homeroom teacher called Panida (surname withheld). They told the police that their daughter had said that there had been an incident in class where ink from a pen ended up dirtying a table. As punishment the teacher had allegedly demanded that the whole class perform 60 squat thrusts, reported Siam Rath. That evening, May 31st, the child had leg swelling and fever and was admitted to the hospital where she spent six days. The mother said that parents trust teachers with their children. She accepted they could be naughty but kids are kids and shouldn't be subjected to a teacher's anger. She didn't want this to happen to another child. Police Major Natcha Klancheua took the case as police prepared to gather further evidence and interview the teacher involved. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Discussed was the installation of an ATC - an automated traffic control system. The Thai capital is infamous for its traffic problems, notes ASEAN NOW, with criticism often being leveled at the police for manually operating the lights making matters worse. In a confusing report Siam Rath mentioned what we believe to be JICA - the Japanese International Cooperation Agency. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Attempted rape of Bangkok schoolgirl: Motorcycle taxi rider in custody Daily News reported on an alarming case of the attempted rape of a 16 year Bangkok schoolgirl in the Phrakhanong area of downtown Bangkok. Daily News reported on an alarming case of the attempted rape of a 16 year Bangkok schoolgirl in the Phrakhanong area of downtown Bangkok. A motorcycle taxi rider with the jacket number 41 had held a box cutter to the throat of the teen who was in school uniform. He intended to abduct her and take her to a curtain hotel (short time hotel used for sexual liaisons). Members of the public reportedly did not intervene because the assailant said it was "a matter between husband and wife". The girl managed to get away. The media reported that a man called Somsak Chaengsat was taken into custody near a temple in On Nut road (Sukhumvit 77) after work by Klong Tan and met Region 5 police. He wore jacket 41. The suspect reportedly said that he wanted to sleep with a child. He threw the box cutter and the victim's phone into a klong near the temple. The police provided no further details though a press conference is expected imminently by met chief Pol Lt-Gen Samran Nuanma. Earlier Daily News reported that the mother of the victim had gone to Klong Tan police to say that her daughter had been taken to school by a "win" (motorcycle taxi) rider who had asked her if she'd like him to pick her up and take her home after school. She agreed as it was often hard to find transport then. He picked her up and then said he'd forgotten something at home. Then the attack occurred in the street. She tried to get away but he held a knife to her throat keeping members of the public away saying it was a domestic dispute. She said that they had never seen this rider before. More on this developing story from ASEAN NOW when the met chief holds the press conference. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Thai Rath The director of the Division of Communicable Diseases has rejected claims that 16.8 million Covid booster shots have been thrown away. Suggestions were made that the vax was tossed out because up-country hospitals did not have the required refrigeration storage facilities. Dr Wichan Pawan said that the vax was a quota that the E.O.C. of the Thai Public Health Ministry sent to smaller regional hospitals to ensure that booster shots were made widely available to the people, reported Thai Rath. He refuted the misinformation about its delivery under the plan to supply Tambon Health Promotion hospitals. He reiterated that everything was being done so that as many people in Thailand could get booster shots as possible to further prevent getting seriously infected from the disease or even dying. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Thai Rath The much awaited fate of a senior Thai policeman accused of killing a man in custody after plastic bags were wrapped around his head will be known today. Thai Rath reported yesterday that the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases in Bangkok will announce its judgment at 9.30 this morning (Wednesday). Former chief of the Nakhon Sawan police station in the north of Thailand Pol Col Thitisan Utthanaphon is charged with six other officers. They face the death penalty if convicted. The case follows the death in custody of Jirapong "Mawin" Thanaphat at the police station between 4th and 6th August 2021. He was in for a drugs offence and was being interrogated. A video at the time showed plastic bags being wrapped around the head of the suspect allegedly to elicit a confession. The police colonel became even more infamous after the case came to light as dozens of luxury cars were found to have been given to him after his success in drugs cases. This earned him the nickname of "Ferrari Joe" or Officer Joe in the Thai media. ASEAN NOW will publish the court's findings as soon as we can. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
