  1. It can be extremely useful. Unfortunately it is nowhere near as good as it was. There were previously many very knowledgeable posters and it was possible to obtain advice and information on a wide range of subjects. Nowadays, if you post anything requiring specific information, it is usually ignored or several posts about Pattaya's Soi 6 appear. Many of the posters with even a moderate degree of sophistication, education and knowledge of Thailand other than bars and hookers have moved on.
  2. I meant within Thailand such as the DSI or some kind of personal intervention of the interior minister or the head of the Thai Police. I am aware that Thailand does not allow foreign police to carry out investigations in Thailand.
  3. I was on a WP for years. Unfortunately that was years and years ago. I had no idea of any potential benefits. When I resigned, I thought that was that and all the social welfare payments were just paid tax.
  4. This thread is based upon a false premise. That premise is that one-year extensions in Thailand are equivalent to 'further leave to remain' in the UK. There is NO equivalence. In the UK, if you hold FLR, you can work in whatever field you like (one or two weird exceptions), set up your own business, access the National Health Service and stay as long as you like as long as you renew your FLR or obtain ILR. In addition there is a clear path to citizenship. In Thailand, holding a one-year extension, you have very few rights. You have no right to work without a work permit and each change of employer will need a new work permit application. You cannot own a business or land. There is no path to citizenship. Each year, you need to resubmit documentation to extend your permission to stay. You will require some Thai language skills to obtain Permanent Residence in Thailand or citizenship, particularly Permanent Residence. Beware false equivalents.
  5. @bamnutsak Yep, that was the one. Thanks. Your map shows the projects in the Bangkok Metropolitan Region. Just for the others, it was nationwide.
  6. Multiple factors at play. I have mentioned defensive driving and reducing risk when riding a motorcycle before. There were clearly a number of areas in which the deceased motorcyclist was not driving defensively and was thus left exposed by the Fortuner's dangerous driving. 1. Undertaking 2. At excessive speed 3. No helmets But the blame will correctly lie with the Fortuner driver.
  7. I have used the National Parks Department Booking Website to book accommodation in National Parks quite a few times. They used to want you to pay for the accommodation at a Krung Thai Bank branch. If you do not do it in 2 days, the booking is automatically cancelled. Before this was really easy as I lived very close to a branch. Now, I don't. The website is ambiguous over whether you can make electronic payments. if you are allowed, it is unclear what reference to use to ensure they don't cancel the booking. I don't really want to experiment trying to pay using my SCB app and then get to the National Park only to find the booking has been cancelled. I did ask the teller in Krung Thai Bank but she did not really know, saw a QR code and suggested it was possible. Has anyone else used this website and how did you pay?
  8. What a self-entitled anti-social prat causing misery for others and selfishly commandeering the beach effectively. It is also a complete demonstration of how utterly useless and incompetent Thai law enforcement is when not commanded from on high.
  9. Can I go to his house and see the lions? What is the entrance fee?
  10. I noticed one at the top of Phra Tamnak Soi 5 the other day but it was a little high for a motorcyclist. It might still be there.
  11. Effective and powerful opposition to governments in Thailand always originates through the displeasure of Bangkok. Every government always focuses on the concerns of Bangkok first and foremost. Ballot box - focus on rural areas. Popular protest - focus on concerns of Bangkok.
  12. Okay, you are saying he is a covert Moslem. A double agent perhaps. Is he Sunni or Shia? Or perhaps a Sufi or Ahmadi? The cynic in me suggests that when the facts do not fit your agenda, you invent a conspiracy theory. He is not a Moslem, let alone a practising Moslem.
  13. But he is not a Moslem, is he? I know you wish he was. I know Moslems have committed a lot of atrocities in the UK. But not this one. Please admit you are wrong and eat some humble pie.
  14. Foraging in a National Park? Hopefully he will be investigated and issued with the requisite fine.
  15. I was not aware Axel Rudakubana was a Moslem let alone a practising Moslem. Have you got your facts straight?
  16. The real solutions are too difficult and would impact both swathes of poor people (transport and agriculture) and also the incredibly powerful and influential CP Group. So, it is free buses, cloud-seeding attempts and blaming the wind.
  17. In the Netherlands, yes. However, it looks like the Phuket police have locked this one up. Therefore, irrespective of any new evidence, the case will not be reopened in any meaningful way. Then again, and I am going to contradict myself here a little. If the case were taken over by a national authority then it might. However this won't happen as it would foul many relationships.
  18. Time to do some time in the Phattalung Hilton*. *All prisons are referred to as Hiltons on Aseanow.
  19. Name that condo! Released pet or a snake from the wild?
  20. Thais are lacking the xRnZ gene which is required to navigate roundabouts. This leads to roundabout chaos at every such junction in Thailand. This is a fact.
  21. Israeli agents patrol the airport perimeter for the El-Al arrivals and departures.
  22. Yes, you can apply in Laos. Be warned reports have shown applying in Laos is more difficult and has a greater chance of rejection than applying in your home country. Be warned that a DTV is strictly "employment prohibited". You stated you have a work permit in Thailand. You cannot be employed in Thailand on a DTV. Be warned along with the documents you stated you may need i. proof that you can work remotely ii. proof that you are actually in Laos iii. proof of your address in Laos iv. anything else they think of You will need to attend the consulate or embassy to pay the fee which you would not in the US.
  23. In thousands of visits to 7-11, I was almost scammed just once. I paid for an item worth, say, 80 Baht with a 1000 Baht note. The way the cashier handed me the change was not the normal way. I counted the 100 Baht notes on the way out and one was missing. I immediately wheeled around and before I could say anything a 100 Baht note was thrust at me. No sorry. No questions. No confusion. In my opinion, it was a clear attempt to steal 100 Baht with a plan B if I noticed to immediately give me the 100 Baht. It worked as I did not take the issue any further. This was a 7-11 I used regularly as it was underneath my apartment block. This was the cashier's first day in this branch. The next day she was gone, never to be seen again.
  24. Where in Thailand is this? I'm stupid. Chiang Mai forum 😳
