Sorry, you wouldn't find me dead in a pair of trainers
10 hours ago, Liverpool Lou said:"How could he have done it himself?"
By asking the vendor to state a false value would be one way. By agreeing to the vendor's suggestion would be another. No need to travel to China, for God's sake.
I think you are trolling
I am happy to send you a pair of trainers and maybe a bag of cement. Pm me your details and we can finish the deal

You tried to cheat.. Got caught.. and your feeling hard done by..
By all means treat it as a game, I do too (items declared at 1 USD, with a invoice for 1 USD and a paypal payment to a seller for 1 USD.. They still wont accept the full paper trail) but when you play the game dont cry when you lose..
If you had paid with credit card (not debit) you can tell them to go whistle and claim non receipt of the goods..Also of note.. I also bought a carplay android auto dasaita android head unit from china.. no tax.. I thought china had a special deal, I have never had tax on chinese packages and must have had 30 in the last few months.
No I did not try to cheat. I did not ask vendor to underestimate value of item. I had no choice with delivery - it was organised by vendor.
I paid with PayPal, which is funded from a credit card - so I could charge back on the item if I want to make things messy - but I've put my big boy pants on, sucked it up, paid my not insubstantial fees and should receive the item tomorrow
I have learnt about the perils of DHL ( I like the Documents Handled Lost moniker!)
My next rant will be about some of the opinionated judgemental illegitimates on AN...

By the way duty, VAT and the DHL charge is normal, nothing to do with your illegally undervalued item.
Sorry Officer. I did not ask the supplier to undervalue the item. I have actually not done anything wrong. Yes, I am aware that VAT & !0% Duty is chargeable.
Are you always this feisty ? Or just having a bad day?
Anyway , this is a forum , so we are all entitled to our opinion & to have our say.

Okay - I am Peed Off . I purchased an electrical item for my car from China. It is not available from Thailand - ie is not manufactured or even sold in this country.
It was purchased online & I paid with paypal .
After it arrived in Thailand DHL contacted me to say it had been checked by customs, & they required my proof of payment for the item. I forwarded my PayPal receipt as requested.
Now - because the vendors understated the price of the item ( a CarPlay & phone mirror box for my car stereo) - I am now required to pay VAT (Ok , I accept that) , a service fee (to DHL) , a storage fee (once again to DHL , charged daily until finally cleared) and a fine to Customs (amounting to 50% of cost of item) because of the value underestimate. I know - First World problems and all that!
DHL say I can ask vendor to pay fine! LOL! Fat chance they will come to the party , they will never have to deal with me again, so what incentive is there for them to do 'the right thing'?
DHL are not doing well at present, several items that I have purchased from Europe have either not arrived or taken an inordinate amount of time to arrive here.
Thai Customs - they are just a law to themselves.
Now I have cracked it & told DHL that if the item is not released in the next 24 hours, they can send it back to China & the vendor can reimburse me.
Okay - Rant over! I feel so much better now!

This sounds like typical opportunistic dentistry to me.
when I was a kid, we had fillings not much else. I noticed when my kids were growing up we had more advanced procedures offered to us , I always refused.
on a slightly different tangent - in my previous line of work (vet) I did a lot of dentistry - mainly cleaning or removing teeth. Over the last 10 years or so, some of my colleagues started performing root canals , crowns etc for dogs ????. Totally unnecessary IMO , but owners were ‘guilted’ into having the procedures done.
if I was in your position, I would be taking my son to another vet (I mean dentist). ????

You can calm him down by feeding him and getting him used to being in your environment, and 'taming' him in so doing. He may become quite friendly towards you.
Unless you physically prevent him from access to birds or other critters, you cannot stop him catching them. Cats catch things as much for play (sport?) as for food. As he is no doubt well versed at his art - nothing is going to stop him doing so now.

By the way - when IS the week-end here? In my retired relaxed state - every day is a week-end for me.

I pulled apart the dash from one of my cars, removed the instrument panel, dismantled it - and then replaced the speedo gauge with one that measures kilometres and not miles. It had been annoying me for a while, and I was apprehensive about doing the job.
Anyway - mission accomplished - everything replaced. No squeaks or rattles!
Had a few beers to celebrate!

The core vaccinations here are C5 & Rabies
As Bordetella bronchiseptica vacc is a component of C5 - I would assume that Canine Cough does occur here , but when talking to a local vet, I was told they do not see it often.
We used C5 in Southern Australia , & did see a few cases of Canine cough in unvaccinated dogs. We also routinely vaccinate against Distemper - which has not been seen in Australia for over 30 years.
Old habits die hard!

Makes me wonder just how ill these prisoners are
Ummm. Correct me if I am wrong - but these people are patients, not prisoners.
If I was infected, but asymptomatic, I too would want to flee (to my home to self isolate) rather than be admitted to one of these hospitels.

Your age is interesting. My sister in Australia is a similar age but they will not give her Pfizer because of her age. Cannot explain that one.
I think that is because they are using the Astrazenica Vaccine for the over 60s and using Pfizer & Moderna (soon) for younger people. The media and several politicians whipped up a fear frenzy when a few middle aged people developed the clotting issue after the AZ vacc - so there is a reluctance by many people to take the AZ vacc,
It is felt that older people are at a far greater risk of succumbing to Covid 19 than they are to the AZ vacc - so the Australian supplies of AZ will be used in that demographic.

I had my first Pfizer vacc on Aug 14. As others have said, I too had mild soreness around injection site for about 24 hours.
No gastrointestinal signs , but mild headache/brain fog for about 3 days. The worst for me was at about day 6, when I had generalised muscle soreness - especially in my thighs. I correlated this with my immune system being challenged at this point , and producing a response to the vaccine - so I viewed it as a positive.
After vaccinating many thousands of animals in my working career - I put any ill effects that I get down to Karma!!

This post was a ripping tome - thanks - it helps to relieve the boredom of quasi lockdown
Yes - I am tired of travel restrictions, entertainment restrictions etc. However as WBG mentioned - local travel is a breeze right now.
Above all , I am happy to be in Thailand now, rather than in Australia - where they are forced to endure highly policed lockdown after lockdown for a handful of cases. Politicians & the media have turned the populace into a quivering basket case.
Covid 19 restrictions have certainly altered what I thought my retirement would be - but the long term benefit is that personally I have learned to relax more, and I have rediscovered sleep ????!!!

I am going to do that immediately.

You have to remember that this is a 24 hour international contact number so the calls could be coming from anywhere in the world, so not sure if early morning in Australia is relevant, but I could be wrong.
I think the ATO call centre was from 8am to 8pm AEST, and Commbank 7 to 11.
I have a cc with BOQ - they have a 24 hour call centre - and they are brilliant - never more than 5 minute wait with them

Try ringing CommBank!!! It really is almost impossible to talk to a ‘customer service agent’ with them.
I am fortunate to have direct line to my Westpac account in Oz, and number of my ‘liaison officer’ from my previous business - but no doubt they will forget me after a few years.
I received an email from the ATO telling me I had a message on my MyGov page. They sent me a text OTP to my (now defunct) Oz mobile. To change the settings - I needed to talk to an ATP person.
Tried many times - no dice - so thought that if it is important - they will no doubt chase me! (Or grab me at the airport if I ever return !!)
As Fat said, early in the morning is most likely to be the best time to get through. I have tried a few times at the end of the working day in Oz, only to be abruptly disconnected at their closing time - even after waiting on hold for up to an hour..
Good luck!

You obviously haven't been to Australia in a while. They'll be defending him, telling him his feelings matter and the 7-eleven clerk should have sacrificed her safety to make a safe space for Andrew.
That is part of the reason I left!! The asylum has been taken over by do-gooders and apologists!

As they would say in Australia - “toughen up Princess” !
I would see this as a normal protocol to protect both herself & any other customer that she deals with - you included.
No need to get your knickers in a twist about this in my humble opinion.

The interval between jabs of Pfizer should be 21 days.
The Pfizer vaccination you received at MedPark didn't come with an appointment for the second dose? Generally, when you get your first jab in Thailand you will be given an appointment for the second jab. Didn't that happen for you at MedPark?
If you've been given an appointment for a second jab at MedPark then you should cancel the Kanchanaburi Hospital appointment. Actually, you should cancel the appointment on Monday because it is too soon (not 21 days) after your first jab.
All the different sites for vaccine registration makes this situation understandable. I doubt you would actually be given the second jab on Monday but I wouldn't want to find out. ????Yes. I have my 2nd vacc booked in at MedPark already
Yes - I have already cancelled my Kanchanaburi appt. I rang them to see if my wifes' father - who has a lung condition, could take my appointment - but no , these vaccines are for non-Thai only.
I posted this information to advise people that the vaccine rollout for eligible expats is beginning in areas other than Bangkok.
I did not request a guide on vaccination protocol - but thanks anyway...

I received an email today telling me that I can get a Pfizer vacc at Kanchanaburi Hospital on Monday. Great news , except I had my first at MedPark 10 days ago.
I registered on intervac & expat vac sites, and came up trumps on both!
Interestingly, my email from the hospital came with an attachment - listing the names, age, email address & country of origin for all recipients at the hospital - typical high tech security!!

70 cars! You must crash a lot if you need to replace cars that often. ????
No! Let’s just say it was a passion of mine to own many cars. I would have up to 8 cars in my ‘collection’ at any one time.
Now that I am retired and residing in Thailand I have tempered things somewhat and have reduced the stable to 4 cars ????. ????
-
Crikey Keith!! Don’t think too much!
I have purchased at least 70 cars in my lifetime - but never checked the VIN on any new car purchase. As BTB1977 has said , there is normally another decal on the car with build and or compliance dates.
I did use the VIN to determine the veracity of ‘classic’ mustangs that I bought to ensure that they conformed with their original factory specifications, ie engine type, paint colour, differential type, manual/auto gearbox etc.
With a new car purchase what you have is obviously original, so should not need verification.
