I had Dengue Fever in January. Every joint in my body was sore , I felt like cr#p, and it took about 3 weeks to recover completely. 

Watch out for those pesky striped mosquitoes!!

By the way, you think that some vets do some volunteer work and sterilize dogs for free ? you are dreaming, there is not even 1 vet in Pattaya who work for free, they are paid by Soi Dogs and others organizations.

 

No respect to any of them, they are a shame.

 

 

I am sure the quite smart vet you have found feels suitably fortunate to have you as a client

Just for reference - how much free voluntary work do you do in the community?

In my post I was referring to Western vets.

I treated many birds in my practice - more so because vets in other practices in my town & from neighbouring towns did not treat them. They would also not treat reptiles, fish or many other ‘pocket pets’ (rabbits,guinea pigs,ferrets etc).

I reiterate that any vet that does not feel confident to treat any particular species should not be expected to do so. It would be unethical for a vet to perform any procedure he/she was not confident they were able to complete.

A local ‘small animal trained’ vet should be, as you say, able to treat dogs and cats - but may not have sufficient exposure to other species to develop the required expertise to provide veterinary care for them.  Universities, both here & in the West, only provide cursory training for these less commonly kept species. Most vets ‘learn as they go’ with exotics. 

This does not mean that local Thai vets do not know what they are doing.

Took it back in and they told my it was my fault for not giving it the medication that they never gave to me! I said why on earth would I do that. I had the receipt and bag with all the different medications in it and there was one kind missing and not charged on the recipt.

 

It was clearly their fault they forgot to include it. But they would not want anyone to loose face. In the end the poor dog had to start all the treatments again and I had to pay again the full amount. 

 

I am sure many of the vets here are not very good. Still looking for a new one in CM. 

I am sorry that your experiences have not been good.

many vets have no experience treating birds , and will refuse to attend to them.

in my opinion this is better than if they attempt to perform a procedure they are unfamiliar with

 They cannot win!   If they don’t treat they are incompetent or stupid? -if they do treat and the patient dies - they are only doing it to line their pockets?

anaesthesia in birds is not the same as in mammals - it requires different knowledge and experience

Advocate should not be given as an injection - it is for external use only - ie skin application

The vet practice will be a commercial business with associated overheads to cover.  It is not cheap to run a practice, and the outlay required for X-ray/ultrasound and blood analysis equipment is considerable.

I bought several Kongs from Lazada for my dogs a few months ago. No problems. Original items in correct packaging - no problems whatsoever.   Just look for a seller with some positive reviews..

I had a 4 br 3 bathroom house of about 175m2 built 2 years ago for  1.7 mill , so your 2 mill budget should be ok ????

The benefits are quite a few as Apple has a thriving App Store so the apps will continue to be updated when many smart TV apps almost never are after a couple of years. You can use it to stream your connection through a VPN as well as all your home media, photos videos, movies audio etc, along with your iCloud media.

 

Ours is set to control our midrange new TV. As to our use we never get OTA TV and don’t watch much though the 4K version may make upgrading to HD Netflix worthwhile along with YouTube premium 

No , I am sorry if I did not make myself clear. Yes - picture and sound quality may be better - but I hate the remote - I used my phone instead. I am very happy with the output from my new(ish) 85 inch Sony 4K Smart tv.

I have an Apple TV unit , but never use it - as we watch most of our movies on Netflix - where it is much easier to have Thai or English subtitles etc.

We can watch Apple TV on iPhone, iPad & Desktop Mac. When I bought my new iMac a few months ago I was given 12 months Apple TV + free (as part of the deal). The Apple TV 4K is more like a set-top box.

Apple TV is available as an app (either pre-installed or downloadable through google store)  on many newer smart TVs.

What they are saying is that if Aussies living abroad could get an automatic exemption every single time, they would be able to go in and out of the country as often as they liked, which would obviously carry an increased risk of them bringing a Covid infection back at some point.

 

If the basic idea is to minimise the amount of potential Covid carriers coming into the country, then giving a whole bunch of people an automatic right to go back and forth as frequently as they wanted, would not serve that end.

Great explanation of the 'logic' behind this government decision. I think however when push comes to shove, any foreign resident is unlikely to be prevented from returning to their home - if they were, the media would have a field day!  I think they are trying to make expats think twice (or three times) before trying to return to Australia for any short stay.

Australia really is returning to its roots.  It started its (Western) life as a penal colony - and now once again the whole country is locked up!!

Despite the situation in Thailand now, I am very glad that I escaped last year..  

Definitely tadpoles - you can see developing hind legs at tailbase in your first pics.

I was a total coffee snob in Oz. Had  a high end Italian espresso machine at home. Found it difficult to find a comparable coffee in shops.

Moved to Thailand - now drink 3 in 1 coffee- and am satisfied with that.

Aim for 2 beer free days each week - but don’t always hit the target! I am no beer snob - but in Thailand Singha & Leo are the only quoffable bevies…

I am happy o give up (neat) water.   Is that on option?

I am an Australian citizen , and like you I have paid bucket loads of tax over the last 35 years working in Australia.   I have now made the choice to live in Thailand - (like you?).   I expect to receive nothing from Australia in the future . I will not be eligible for any government support or pension.

I do , however, understand that the benefits that I received while living in Australia- education for myself (free) and subsidised for my children , free health care , stable (<deleted>$y government) and a true first world lifestyle- all come at a cost. I think it is a bit much to expect to get the tax that We have paid back in our retirement.  As far as I know it was never a loan.

I followed the Thailand Intervac link - and have now secured a vaccine (booking) at MedPark Hospital next month.

I applied at 8:25am , am Aussie, over 60. - no dice baby!!

Ok , so not steroid then. It would seem that the urination is a behavioural thing - dogs also can develop dementia. Maybe he has forgotten what is acceptable?

Do you know what the pills are?  I would assume they are corticosteroids (dexamethasone or prednisolone). These tablets will make him drink more & urinate more. If so, try halving his dose, to see if that helps. Alternatively you could switch to a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (like Rimadyl as suggested by Poohy).

Many older dogs with arthritic conditions also have spinal degeneration, and this can cause urine leaking issues, but this will manifest as incontinence, and your dog would be unaware of what he is doing.

Alternatively have all dogs neutered at the same time and keep them housed separately, expensive but you placed them in this position, the dogs are just acting naturally. 

 

Ensure they have collars.

You may find they will come in to a phantom season every few months after the op, thats normal.

A neutered bitch should never have a ‘phantom season’.
