Alls anyone has to do is read through this 100 page thread to see how vastly complex it would be to tax the income of the many natioalities that live in Thailand.... Different languages, different tax treaties, different income streams, different ways to import money into Thailand....Bla bla bla bla bla Like l have said before they are drowning and they have not even jumped in the water......I just dont see it happening....Retired expats on a pension are a piss poor source for tax money...

This I think is the first article I have ever read where the Thais were even thinking of doing anything for expats...... Expats have always been viewed as dirty unpleasent and barely tolerated in Thailand by the hi-so Thais.....

I would guess maybe only 10-20% of the budget of any construction prodject is spent on the prodject.......The rest is in someones pocket...

O let all the hand wringers have their fun here.....lol Trust me folks this tax insanity will fly about as good as those Thai blimps......Or work about as good as the GT200 drug detectors......Need I go on.....

Sure and they could go back to the Vietnam War.....I bet plenty of GIs in Thailand back then who were skipping out on paying tax.....Tax dogers they were and countless expat tax dogers...... Make them all pay up with penalties and intrest... Heck I bet 100 dollars owed then would be 200-300 hundred thousand by now....

Even if every expat in Thailand paid 1,000 dollars a year in taxes...It would only be a drop in the bucket as far as paying off 560 billion baht.....I am talking like 150-200 years.... Do the math and see for yourself....

NOTHING IS FREE IN THAILAND.....If its free there is a catch.....Sounds like this free card might end up being quite expensive..

We need more sensable posts like this.....Instead of guys debatng how best to wear tax handcuffs and leg irons so they are most confortable... The whole thing is a unworkable mess..

To say some one only qualifies as a resident to pay a tax.... And to say they dont qualify for any other rights or benefits of being a resident or any of the benefits of paying income tax (like the option buy into Thai health care) is a Joke.....A very bad Joke.... No one can deny this......

It sound like they want to slap a tax-resident label on farangs just for the privilege of being taxed......With no other benifits for farang what so ever... Does a farang who is in Thailand for 179 days use a whole lot less resources than a farang that is here for 300 -365 days? Nope not really.... Especially considering almost nothing is free for a farang in Thailand 179-365 days farangs pay up same same for every thing in Thailand..

Ok fair enough But a farang who has a work visa and is working in Thailand and paying taxes on his income at least has the option to pay into the Thai health and SSc fund which comes as a benifit of paying taxes on their income in Thailand.. So what benifits would a farang on a retirement visa get if he also paid taxes on his income?

I dont want to brag but I am rich I mean like really rich... Did I tell you I was rich and not just average joe rich but rich rich rich. And besides being rich I like to complain a lot too..

No No.....This would cost money.......And kill the daily news stories about how Thais are trapped and in danger there......
