New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern
redwood1 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Well your almost correct.....The tax paying Thais and farangs with a work permit who also pay taxes can pay into a National health care system.....But the payments are very cheap, some thing like 500 baht a month? So yes its more or less free.... And this is not that 30 baht heath care rubbish....This is first class top of the line heath care.... (Example) Hip, knee replacements at no cost to the insured.... And yes they should give this heath care to all the new tax paying farang.... But farangs are Thai hospitals bread and butter and farangs getting free health care would bankrupt them.... So the hospitals absolutely do not want any new farang tax payers getting one baht in free heath care... The governments new tax plan seems to leave out farangs getting any benefits whats so ever......And I do mean 100% zero benefits.....Not even a happy meal from McDonalds.....Nope.....1000% zero benefits.... Hey anyone out there who is OK with paying out their hard earned money for nothing please send me your money I will give you nothing back too....And thank you very much... This tax plan is so bad its DOA.....Its Never going to fly... -

Point being USA taxes will offset Thai taxes not the other way around...I doubt the IRS would take to kindly to some claimed Thai tax credit....Messing around with the IRS is not recommended.. Dont be stupid everyone should pay USA taxes in full before anyone else... -

Wrong... When you pay tax in your home country you get a document saying how much you have declared for tax in your home country You use that document for Thailand to avoid double tax. -

Folks I thought this tax was for EVERYONE in Thailand including Thais.....Not a word has been said about a new income tax for Thais.... It was also quite kind of them to come out with the LTR visa the LTR excludes the richest expats from paying any tax..Which pores cold water on saying the income tax is needed to raise money...When the most well-off expats are excluded from paying any tax..... This half baked mess of a tax has more holes in it than Swiss cheese....Savings excluded,Gifts excluded, Treaties excluded, ATMs pretty much excluded etc etc etc The whole thing is pretty much a hopeless mess..... -

Legal Strategies to Reduce Thai Tax
redwood1 replied to Mike Lister's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Here is another monkey wrench to add to many others for the half baked zero thought out mess of a almost unenforceable tax on income ... https://www.pattayamail.com/latestnews/news/thailands-new-visa-rules-from-june-1-break-fresh-ground-461766 Thailand’s new visa rules from June 1 break fresh ground There are also implications for Thai Revenue’s policy “clarification” to tax the overseas income of tax residents – namely anyone staying in the country more than 180 days in a calendar year. Using a combination of the new 60 days rule, plus a couple of border runs, it would easily be possible for individuals to clock up more than six month residence without having any visa at all. Thus the idea that Thai Revenue can identify potential tax residents by the type of visa they have is faulty. Enforcement of the new Revenue regulations is still unclear to say the least. -

Legal Strategies to Reduce Thai Tax

And what about Thais?....Is there a reason almost every person in these tax threads willfully ignores the subject of Thais not having payed taxes? You say Section 37 Bis Any person that intentionally fails to file tax returns could get fines and maybe jail time .....Would that not also include Thais too? This is a serious question...... Doesn't this new income tax also include Thais or is it just for retired expats who dont have a LTR visa.. I have yet to see any thing in the news educating and explaining to the Thais all their new income tax responsibilities that they will have starting in the year 2024..... -
Barriers STAY?........I bet you a happy meal they are gone (or at least moved to the side) in 2 weeks or less...

Yea right big corporations have a army of lawyers who do nothing but figure out ways to NOT pay any taxes.....Even Warren Buffet about the richest guy in the world admits he pays almost no taxes....lol........ The corporations will continue to pay almost zero taxes that is a certainty... The LTR visa comes in very handy to make sure the very well to do dont have to pay any taxes ....
