I'll just say this: my GF's daughter just obtained her driving license. It took 3 days (4 hours each time) and a test (theory and driving) to get it done in roughly a week. Would I let her take our car and drive alone in Bangkok's streets? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Even teachers there warned us that getting your license doesn't mean you know how to drive. The whole system is messed up and they should start there at the root of the problem if they want different results. RIP to the girl and so many others.

OP, if you are interested in the Banyan Tree hotel, I suggest for you to go on "hungry hub". They seem to do a lot of packages for stays including free food credit, free spa or afternoon tea set for 2 people. Maybe there is a package that would suit you.

Actually, the younger generation did challenge them but no one else supported them. Teenagers and young adults went to the streets during Covid and fought for a proper democracy. The rest of the population just complained about lower incomes while drinking beer and whiskey. It would take a Sri Lanka situation for people to wake up here, right now they are half drunk, half asleep.

The Best Country Beef Phuket aged beef restaurant old town
BKKTRAVELER replied to BugJackBaron's topic in Phuket
I haven't been there but I know the Thai man in charge (lovely guy) and he is very serious about his beef. He opened a few restaurants and is a wholesaler as well. His Thai beef (wagyu, aged or normal) is pretty tasty. It is not the cheapest, but you pay for good quality beef. So, I don't know if that restaurant is actually good, but the meat should be. -

Well, he is not a doctor so he probably won't share their concerns.. All jokes aside, this has been happening even before Covid and in all parts of the world. The world overall healthcare system is melting and medical staff have had enough of being exploited until they burn out. Maybe, just maybe... Governments should start thinking about the root of the problem. Medical studies are hard, long AND expensive. It is often that doctors come from well to do families. Let's make medical studies more approachable (lower school fees, accommodations assistance and plenty of other things can be done to support medical students). Yes, it will cost money. But, not only is it worth it, it is paramount.

They usually buy a car they can't afford, a house/condo they can't afford, a phone they can't afford and so on... Problem is, it's way too easy for Thai people with a job to obtain loans and multiple credit cards. There are people that became experts at cheating the system and obtain those. They now help others do the same for a fee. Then when things go awry, they sometimes resort to loan sharks. That's when their lives are ruined and they never manage to get out of those schemes.

Well, they are trying to be "realistic". Winning all 6 numbers is, well... unlikely. They're already happy if they win 2k or 4k. Still unlikely as well. I'm not surprised digital tickets sell out fast. It's easy and convenient and may even attract the younger generations who are glued on their phones 24/7.

Thailand Aims to Become Hemp Production Hub
BKKTRAVELER replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Thought the same, it's time they stopped calling themselves a hub for everything they do... -
I agree with Pattaya, many feel 10-50 years younger after a trip there. Now, that's some magical healthcare!

Not surprised in Nana area. I used to go from one taxi to another after going out around soi 11 until someone accepted to turn the meter on. And I lived nearby, so their usual "200" baht nonsense didn't appeal to me.

I haven't been there in forever, I might as well go visit again. I really enjoyed going to the Lumphini night market, easy access from MRT and liked the atmosphere. The Safari restaurant was fun too and I remember having ostrich steak there once and it was actually tasty. Too bad it closed after the red shirts protests if I recall.

Agreed, if you live by Sukhumvit road or any main streets, finding a taxi in Bangkok at night shouldn't take more than a few minutes. If you live inside smaller sois, it might be an issue and in this case like BritTim said, use Bolt, Grab or whatever app there is available.
