Trump Starts Global Tariff Wall, Thailand Hit with 36% Tax
Walker88 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
What is it about $10,000,000,000,000 in foreign owned USTs that you don't understand? Nice selfie, by the way. -
Because owning the MAGAs is just so much fun! The "lefties" most often post facts, while MAGAs are constantly getting their panties in a twist. WINNING!

Well, getting spare parts for your F-150 is going to cost you more now, as that isn't "American made". I know MAGAs usually only put their confederate flags at half mast on the anniversary of the "Bowling Green Massacre", but maybe now they'll add "Liberation Day". I also suspect some MAGA is going to shoot up a Walmart again, upset about the massive price hikes. -

No doubt you'll be taking your $billions and buying up US Treasury securities to fund the 30% of the deficit currently funded by foreigners. Yessiree, let America fend for itself. -

I'm kind of surprised you have so much time to post. I would have thought you'd be buying up land in the US to start growing jasmine rice, or at least setting up a factory to produce Sri Racha chili sauce. -

Doormat? What is the source of your woeful inferiority complex, and how is POTUS going to help what clearly Darwinism left out? I never felt like a doormat. I was able to become a multimillionaire before age 30, and then I got really wealthy when I moved into private industry. I don't think the average Thai was holding me back nor stepping on me, nor did the average Thai have anywhere near the opportunities I had. I do know my country greatly benefited from having 30% of its deficit funded by willing foreign UST buyers. I suspect that is going to slow, maybe even stop. With such a capricious clown as POTUS, I doubt many non-US companies will bother to spend the next few years designing and building US factories in a hope of getting behind the tariffs, because few would think POTUS wouldn't block them and even domestically tariff them if the US economy slowed, saying something like, "They're not really American". As soon as arriving ships and planes unload and the goods enter the US market, the average American is going to face price inflation on a scale never seen before. To rub salt in the wounds, Americans are also going to take big hits to their 401Ks, thanks to the "really stable genius". There used to be a lot of give and take in the world. Despite tariffs in other markets, the US economy did pretty well and the people of the US were able to live well beyond their means. The world rushed to the US' defense after 9-11, and the US was the first major nation---under the leadership of the Biden Administration---to emerge from Covid, growing from 2021-2025 at 3 times the rate of the average G7. It seems all those foreign tariffs neither got in the way of growth nor made the US a doormat. George Santayana must have known who Mr. Smoot and Mr. Hawley were, but clearly POTUS knows none of the three. -
Elon Musk said, "Humanity's destiny rides on this election". This morning, his underling, who sits behind the Resolute Desk, said, "Nothing to see here." Those boys ought to better choreograph their message. At least he didn't scream "RIGGED!", although it's still early in the day back there. Maybe this Dem victory is the first shot fired on a real Liberation Day.

Tariff woes depress US manufacturing, erode labor demand

Funny the guy is already announcing plans to "compensate US farmers" who face retaliation from tariffed countries. It seems POTUS's Socialism runs deep. -
What's the worst book about Thailand that you ever read?

A gentle little snowflake gasps when his messiah is blasphemed. SAD!!!!! (using the correct vernacular of the messiah) -
Ah, the fantasy world of a MAGA cult member! Your "nobody" believed a word of it merely refers to cult members, who lack the brains to understand. Such is the curse of inferior genes. Your messiah is not infallible. He stole highly classified documents. It was no inadvertent; it was on purpose. Why does a guy running a wedding planner facility need TS, SCI, Codeword, SAP, HCS and other docs? When asked to return them, why did he lie and keep so many that the FBI had to search his facility to get them back? Why did he call his goobers to DC for 6 January, saying "It'll be WILD!", when on that day the only activity was a pro forma certification of a free and fair election he lost badly? Why did he tell his goobers to march to the Capitol, saying "fight" 34 times in his bizarre rant, and "peacefully" just once? Is he just too stupid to understand crowd mentality, which seems to be your excuse? And why do people who beat and bear sprayed police, shat on the floor of the Capitol, and set up gallows to hang the Vice President deserve "reparations"? MAGAs are sick fascist scum, one and all. Every last one of those terrorists should have been Babbitized. Traitors to democracy and American ideals. It is MAGAs who suffer a "syndrome" and have irrational hatred of everything better people than a MAGA could ever be fought to defend for 250 years.

Why Trump’s Economic Messaging Isn’t Calming Wall Street
Walker88 replied to placeholder's topic in Political Soapbox
US manufacturing shrinks in March. Job openings fall. MAGAnomics at its best.' FAILURE = MAGA -
I guess we'll see if there is, or isn't, any validity to the "broken window effect". .06% is not a particularly big hit, a mere 20% of the impact expected from US tariffs. In fact, the cost of repairs is money spent, so that .06% could be adjusted downward. More bricks and mortar, and fewer donuts or iPhones might cancel each other out. A larger concern would be any effect the quake might have on tourism (covered in another thread). The jury remains out on that, though memories tend to be short. I would bet the trade war started by POTUS is going to have a much greater effect on the entire world economy, so .3% may well be overly optimistic.

British Expat Finds Bliss in Thai Paradise, Won’t Return Home
Walker88 replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
Though it should be patently obvious what my sarcastic post was about, I'll spell it in detail in case the original guy who dissed the woman for employing cleaners comes back. That guy is looking down on Thais whose vocation is a cleaner. I doubt he would disparage Claudia if she went to a hospital to look after an illness or injury. Apparently being a physician is an approved vocation, whereas being a cleaner or cook is not, and anyone who employs one is guilty of exploitation. I'm of the belief that both the physician and the cleaner enjoy being paid for their labor. Claudia is thus not a drain on Thai society, but rather is adding value that otherwise might not be there. Everybody wins.
