  1. I haven't been to Pattaya for over twenty years, and when I went I took a Thai girlfriend ( her idea!) My understanding that the best way to start is to go to a bar called "Windmill" and let matters come to a head.
  2. Council House And Violent. Not to pull any punches - that is how the expression originated.
  3. I would have thought that a car catching fire, leading to a RoRo ship carrying several hundreds (thousand?) Itself burning, would constitute a significant number - and possibly lead to higher premiums, if only for the shippers, and very likely reflected throughout the spectrum of insurance. I also suspect that the risk of fire for ICE vehicles increases considerably with age and wear. Electric vehicles, being newer, perhaps we don't yet have the full picture. Incidentally, I have no "skin in this game", I currently don't own a car, internal combustion, electric or pedal! I do have a 120cc petrol motorbike and am contemplating one of those cheap as chips electric bikes on Lazada, range will be critical, to be of any use for me it has to be good for 30km. I might invest in an "old banger" next year, when my pension cuts in.
  4. This vehicle was simply parked up and charging. If that can lead to it catching fire without any other source, then that is an issue, to be fair, yes?
  5. That is pretty good, considering that the entire government is based on a resounding "no", followed by sticking up two fingers, to the Thai electorate!
  6. This year it seems to be open for a while, then close again for a few days, then open again. Rather at the whim of the Myanmar authorities. If it is closed you have the alternative of going into Laos - a bit more expensive!
  7. Installing banana catapults?
  8. Needs to resubmit his application, with various enhancements
  9. No, no, no. The number of troops in field formations will fall, resulting in dangerously understrength units, which will have to be remedied by increasing conscription quotas in subsequent drafts.
  10. Well I suppose it depends on where you live - for me in the top North it's a 45 minute bus ride and B500 to go into Myanmar.
  11. He is a language school teacher, an occupation much less regulated than a classroom English teacher in a conventional school. Of course, as a "Tic Toccist" (or whatever the correct term is) with a large following he may well have believed that the rules did not apply to him. Either way, filming her and putting her on Tic Toc was an epic example of supreme plonkerdom!
  12. You are the one who drew the conclusion.
  13. "So there must be" "A system such as this one" "To keep such scum" "From sharing my idyll" Fits to the opening bars of the "Horst Wessel Lied" Gottfried my dear chap! ????
  14. Gosh - not much of a wide ranging generalisation there then!
  15. Dear me Mr Newton - you really cannot resist stirring the pot with your groundless speculation about Viza changes, can you now? Last time round, a few weeks ago, I seem to remember they were rapidly shown to be groundless. Maybe you need to find another magnet attract clicks?
  16. An astonishing variety! They have 6 completely different models of 155mm howitzer, 4 different models of 105mm howitzer, it must be a logistical nightmare! 7 different types of pistol in 3 different calibres, 13 different types of infantry rifle. Their "metal Mickeys" ( small arms instructors) must be permanently confused! 5 different types of Main Battle Tanks... And now we hear of a major new weapons procurement programme, lots more new ( no doubt different) kit - remarkable!
  17. Some (many) have been "persuaded" to invest their capital in houses, farms, other ventures, cars and so on. Some will have lost the lot, others will stay to at least enjoy some benefits of their "investment". The alternative is to cut your losses and go home - but start over again, in what is now a strange, expensive country, on a pension income? I know several like that - they take it out on their keyboards. Luckily new keyboards are only a couple of hundred Baht!
  18. So, is Tuesday (swearing in of the new cabinet) a sufficiently important occasion to justify pardons for well behaved prisoners with a year to serve?
  19. That is possible. Probably not a big plus for the selection board for the top job.
  20. Sometimes the problem is that the Thais do not understand the "slogans"! I am sure that the teenage girl ( and parents ) who regularly attends Mass here in the football shirt branded for PornHub would be mortified if she/they knew! I have a Brunswick Green polo shirt with the old (lion on a wheel) British Railways motif on it - but it is not so much advertising as that I really like steam locomotives!
  21. Well I understand the perpetrators were never identified let alone brought to justice. Were he as well loved as some would have us believe then I suspect that considerably more effort would have been expended. Didn't he then take a sabbatical from being a top copper and beetle off to India for a while to do some monking/keep out of the way? But no proof - but then such a thing as proof is rarely found in the swirling maelstrom of Thai power struggles!
