  1. This scam has been going since the mid 90's and these witless goons are still at it. Money Number One.
  2. This kind of racial profiling would be illegal in the West. Thankfully we are not in the West. ???? ????
  3. Same as in Burma. PTTEP taken over all the major gas fields as all the other companies exited due to human rights concerns after the coup.
  4. Wrong. Farangs are white Westerners. The word comes from the Sanskrit for the Franks, who were the first white people this region had seen. Hence, similar words in Khmer, Bahasa etc. The word does not apply to blacks living in the West, e.g. African-Americans, however the Thais may use the phrase 'farang dum' to differentiate. Arabs are known by another derogatory name which I will not post here. Definitely not refered to or known as 'farang'.
  5. They need to get these maniacs off the road. Those that hit-and-run should see lengthy jail sentences without exception.
  6. From quality tourists to organised criminals brandishing guns and threatening tour groups and gangs of bike racers. One must be careful what one wishes for.
  7. I think if you look close enough, you will find that the vast majority have got rich through corruption, exploitation, cheating, stealing or inheritance. Many from a combination of all of the above. Thai business is even worse than Thai politics, and operates in a similar manner of greed, deception and almost total self-interest.
  8. Nobody should be surprised that they: Did not keep their word. Broke election promises. Stabbed their close allies in the back. Went against the will of the people. Put their own needs first before the needs of the country. Arranged all this in advance by colluding at the last Leicester City game of the season. Displayed total contempt for the electorate. Like I stated on another thread, it's in their nature.
  9. Integrity, ethics, morals and bravery don't work round these parts, unfortunately.
  10. When I worked oil and gas here, even the local Thai safety men offshore did not have any quals to perform incident investigation. Strange thing though, it was mandatory for any foreigner taking a similar position to have Kelvin Top Set or equivalent? Guess the Thais couldn't get themselves qualified? ????‍♂️
  11. The bikey murderer was living in Thailand on a retirement visa. Logic suggests that others will be doing the same. Those on the same visa class will now face the possibility of the criteria to obtain these visas and extensions being tightened. It would only be a matter of time before that happened anyway, as more and more foreigners use this visa class to stay here. My guess is that financial obligations will increase, and agents providing the banking services will be targetted. Let's wait and see.
  12. A lot of people cannot pay back their car loans. During COVID the lenders were prevented from repossessing defaulted assets by govt. policy. Interest to see what happens now that debts need to be paid while interest rates are increasing, in line with dramatic increases in living costs, most notably electric. Something will have to give.
  13. By that rationale, every Thai politician before and since is also a coward.
  14. Have to remember that they are ethnic Malay and the majority down there. ????
  15. There's some info about them on the other thread where authorities found another tonne of explosives in another warehouse belonging to the same owner. He has been arrested and being charged. The other point that was raised here and clarified on the other thread is that there was no insurance to cover all the damage, sorry, devastation, caused.
  16. Prawit and the convicted heroin smuggler still get a seat at the table. Got to keep everyone earning, to H*ll with what the voters want or what is best for the country.
  17. That will not achieve anything, as soon as they pass the test they will drive how they want without fear of punishment.
