  1. They were elected on the pledge to amend 112, and if they do go back on that they will lose a lot of their core support base. Best for them to continue to play the long game, wait it out, and keep their policies the same imo. It’s only a matter of time.
  2. Loads of them on the run, up in the NT. I was staying at a company apartment up in Darwin and summons from the court would appear weekly for one of the guys staying there. He was from Brissy IIRC. Eventually he did another runner when Police arrived to apprehend him. He must have known they were coming as he had packed his bag but had no time to take it with him. When I got back from work it was out the front of the apartment but he was nowhere to be seen. Never saw him again after that.
  3. Plenty of examples of incompetence within the last government. I quite like this article from the Thai Enquirer: The Prayut Chan-ocha epoch will hang over Thailand foreseeable future. So great were its faults and so damaging its policies, that the mist of this era will blanket and cloud the next one for some time to come. https://www.thaienquirer.com/50166/the-indelible-fool-prayut-era-influential-and-unwanted/
  4. Sorry, that is incomprehensible. Again, what specific parts of his post are distorted? The post did not mention anything about who fired first and if we are arguing that point, it was the military that fired first when the protests were elsewhere in the city. The army were pictured on TV shooting live ammo at protesters while Abhisit was on TV saying no live rounds were being used. The M16's the soldiers were using cannot fire blanks without the proper suppressors being fitted. Not all people killed in the army assault at Rajaprasong were red shirts, journalists, nurses, and civilians were killed as well, and it has never been properly investigated or anyone held accountable.
  5. Tourists won't care, they never have before. Still arrived in significant numbers during political turmoil, the only exception was when the Yellow Shirts shut down Thailand's international airports, which cost the country billions.
  6. What is distorted in that post? Everything is factually correct.
  7. People already look at me funny when I tell them I have lived through 3 coups. Imagine when I tell them I have lived through 4! Most people don't even experience one!
  8. The soldiers will stay in their barracks unless there are militant and prolonged protests from the opposition (see Red Shirts, Rajadamri, 2010). This is so typically Thai though. A shambles from top to bottom.
  9. I knew the guys that committed that crime. They used to drink in Suk Soi 22 in Bangkok. All were Americans, not Brits. The British passport was a fake.
  10. We'll need to agree to disagree. ???? Most are very decent people that have no education and no chance to do anything else. Just curious, what is your experience of working and dealing with Thais at middle management level and above, Thai officials (other than visa renewals at immigration etc.), and Thais at government level? FYI mine is quite extensive. I've worked closedly with the Thai government before, been here under the Petroleum Act as a foreign expert, worked as top management for large Thai companies and helped Thai govt. departments set up management systems and develop their capabilities.
  11. That 'anarchy' was engineered because he conspired with the gangster Suthep to make it happen! Just as they did with the Yellow Shirts in 2006-2009. Cause anarchy to make an excuse for a coup and take power.
  12. His lust and greed meant he could not help himself. Conspired with the gangster Suthep since 2010 to make himself dictator. If anyone thinks he did it for the good of the country or any other altruistic reason you are off your rocker.

  14. Vulnerable, not stupid. Quite a few of Bangkok's most prominent bars in were built with money stolen from British and Australian pensioners.
  15. The despicable dictator Hun Sen allowed and profited from this happening. Sihanoukville has been completely destroyed by Chinese colonisation.
  16. So the Thai Police are qualified incident investigators? ???? I'm dubious that they hold recognised qualifications such as Kelvin Topset etc. As they evidently cannot deduce the causes of road traffic accidents, I very much doubt they are competent to handle something of this magnitude. My opinion only. Happy to be proved wrong.
  17. Why are the Police doing the incident investigation and not qualified and experienced HSE accident investigators?
  18. Wishful thinking I am afraid. I heard exactly the same sentiments from Thais and foreigners when Thaksin came to power in 2001.
  19. Suthep and Prayuth conspired since 2010 to remove the elected government and engineer the situation to justify a coup (not that coups are ever justified).
