51 and 14. That's a bit of a stretch. I get reviled for dating a 46 year old and I am 67.

I wonder if it ever occurred to them to make their standards more rigorous? Thais always blame outside forces rather than themselves. It absolutely never fails. "We are superior, yet we are eternally victims." Wonder how that happens?

And they will never do it with an ex PM running away from the military junta .
She is safe in London.
In fact, it is British government POLICY that insures Yingluck will not be extradited. The UK, like America, does not extradite those caught up in illegal coups. They do not even consider these cases.

Charge the Chinese tourists four times the price for all I care! What do they contribute? Long term expats ... give them the Thai price. Long-term expats are probably helping a Thai family, paying local taxes, and contributing in some meaningful way. Tourists ... milk 'em.
I realize that I am in the minority, but as long as the amount is fair, I don't mind paying a bit more for some goods and services. I do make more money than the average Thai. As long as the amount is reasonable, I never gripe. My girlfriend is much more militant, though. She simply will nail a vendor to the wall for overcharging me.

I watched my girlfriend go ballistic on a songtheaw driver who tried to overcharge us for a ride from the Pattaya Central Bus Station to Jomtien. It was an amount I could live with but she was having none of it. She raised such hell that the driver gave me money back and charged us both the going rate.

Very hard to blame him. Poor bloke.

Cambodia is tightening its visa laws starting with business visas. Pretty soon it will be the same as Thailand
https://aecnewstoday.com/2017/axe-falls-on-endless-cambodia-visa-extensions/#axzz541bf3aqbOnly partly true. The "tightening" is for so-called "business visas" which are frequently used to stay for years without actually having a business. Cambodia now has a designated retirement visa (the ER class visa) which is very easy to get
if you qualify. They are just making sure that retirees have the correct visa without "stretching" the rules. Like the Thai retirement visa, the new Cambodian visa does not allow working while retired. In order to work there is another visa class for that. All the info is at the Cambodian Immigration website.

He did a good job with the guitar playing, and his accent is quite good. But the original lyrics to the song are truly dreadful, basically meaningless tosh about jeans and labels and stuff, who will guarantee Thai products? I don't know, and I don't care. Do people really listen to this?
It appeals to Thai xenophobia and their (justified) inferiority complex. The message works in nearly every country on earth. Look at the success of the Trump phenomenon. If you can successfully lay your own shortcomings at the feet of foreigners, you will never lack for sales or electability.

Alas this rise will be a mathematical certainty, since ridiculous new laws in Thailand, usually only applied to farangs, will be causing more expats to relocate to Cambodia.
Care to share what those new laws might be? Inquiring expat minds want to know.

If immigration does not have a "mission", they can't justify heavy staffing levels. This is the essence of bureaucracy worldwide. It's a jobs program, plain and simple. Keep 'em busy.

Certainly....ANY system which rules against the dictator is "broken and unfair". Trump has spoken. His will must be obeyed. LOL . What a pathetic, fascist buffoon.

No, the family is misunderstanding the situation. Prisoners in Thailand do not get the same luxuries as western prisons. They can expect a meal consisting of low-grade (what we might consider rotten) rice or porridge and soups, and water (not bottled - just your average water than may not be the best for drinking).
If you want more your family usually will be responsible for sending or supplying food which is more palatable, water and money that could be used in a sort of canteen.
Without a proper support network locally, he should get use to it since that is what the Thai prison system is like. Just because he is a westerner does not mean he gets treated any better.
Amazing that we have expats trying to justify inhumane prison conditions in Thailand. Western countries used to loudly protest this kind of treatment of prisoners by Communist governments. Since Thailand is merely a military government, they are all very quiet on human rights.

In comparason to my Non O, followed by 10 extensions of stay based on retirement, this does not seem particularly attractive.
I fail to see which group it is aimed at?
It's aimed at the RICH......who could live anywhere. Why not live in Sweden where you can have health insurance?

Thailand seems free of any moral constraints whatsoever. The average Thai can justify anything. I see it on a daily basis.

Not true. You can't take the females you've met and come to such a conclusion. Not all Thai women have a low self esteem. Aren't you the one with the lower self esteem in your relationship, because you can't give her what she'd like? If you don't try to keep her satisfied, she'll get her satisfaction somewhere else.
One of the stupidest comments I've seen on this forum. Sexual appetite is not a matter of self-esteem but of ability. She gets what I am able to give. No man my age wants sex every day of the week. If she wants to find a Thai man then she is welcome to the abuse.

One good hint is when she start making food and serve you and do not share your meal so forget about the sex she is going for your pension , house, car and bank account with pension from you. Time to let go and get another one and fast.
How would she get my pension? My Social Security is direct deposit and no one can access it except me. No car and I rent my condo. No Thai court is going to try to give a woman your pension. It only works that way in Western countries. Here, you simply walk away when you want to leave.

He'll be released after they extort enough money from him. It makes no difference to them whether he is guilty or not.

Assault on a military person is normally a punishable offense anywhere in the world. No news here. Assaulting a cop or a member of the military usually does not end well.

It happened to me. I could not have treated my girlfriend better, but she wanted marriage, which I did not feel was a good idea. She left me for a scumbag Thai man who has simply proved to be another affirmation of the stereotype. To be fair, he DOES speak her language and that goes a long way here.

Very hard to "steal" your pension unless you give her access to it. Needs to explain how it happened.

It's always Aussies, Brits or Americans. Thais are never implicated in crimes against underage girls and boys. "Thai people not do."

I'm truly amazed that the CIA hasn't taken Trump out by now. Arguably the most dangerous man in the world.

Who in Asia or elsewhere has "pure" Buddhism? The Thai version is so corrupted as to be unrecognizable as the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama.
