I have seen Chinese shopkeepers sweeping up the pavement outside their shops without shirts on around here, I presume that like the man you saw he knows the form. Going shirtless was Thai culture for people who couldn't afford many clothes especially in the countryside working the fields.

Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

Not only for those who couldn't afford many clothes. Thai history records accounts of KINGS in their throne rooms, completely shirtless.  WIthout  air conditioning or electric fans, wearing lots of clothes was begging to be very uncomfortable.

  2. There is a REASON why first world countries have strict visa rules. When developing countries create absurd rules for foreigners, it's usually done for reasons of spite and jealousy. There is no rational reason to keep foreigners out of your country when they are better compensated than the indigenous population. Our income creates jobs for Thais by staffing farang-oriented businesses. The sales tax on our purchases, alone would justify a more light-handed touch. Saving face always backfires.

Overweight massage girls screaming at you, Taxis and buses crawling past beeping at you, overpriced gogo bars, buses parked everywhere containing hordes of Chinese tourists who then proceed to follow a flag up Walking Street and stand outside the bars taking photos of a handful of farangs spending money.

That was my experience last time I was there.

The "follow the flag" group is one of the most hilarious things that I see in Thailand. The Chinese tourists are always anxiously looking around, as if they are in a highly dangerous jungle. :stoner:

  4. I have noticed that when you use extreme violence against Thais, that they seem to back off, at least temporarily until they can find another unfair advantage. Witnessing a paid group of thugs beating a couple of Thais to a pulp, showed me how the situation should be handled. Money well spent and the damage meted out to the Thai offenders was far more than needed but very effective. Broken bones and missing teeth, tend to speak much louder than words.

If he had some sense of adventure, he could go to live in Cambodia, where they have SANE visa requirements and are very flexible. They also don't get too upset when you are found to be overstaying and spending money in their kingdom.

According its enlightened policy of never doing anything to assist British citizens under any circumstances, the British Embassy would have let him serve his 100 days in Phatum Thani jail in lieu of paying the overstay fine followed by transfer to Immigration's medieval standing room only jail in Soi Suan Plu, until he could raise the fare home, i.e. until he died which would probably not be long in there.   Sounds like Uncle Sam might stump up for his fine and repatriation.  Lucky for him he's a yank.

Actually, America hasn't been much more liberal in this respect. It must have been an exceptional set of circumstances to get the Embassy to send him home. Embassies of all nations are not known for compassion. They are an elite corps of highly paid bureaucrats who perform almost no work and cut "sweetheart deals" with immigration, (notary letters for income and freedom to marry being an example). Embassy personnel generally resent having to actually HELP OUT their citizens.

That is one thing that I cannot understand , this from the report .

They seem to be saying that regardless of whether they are right or wrong, the gay community should sympathise and support them .

Gays should not have an opinion, blindly support other gays, whatever they do .

Johnathan Hale, the publisher of San Diego Gay and Lesbian News, was disheartened by the comments not only beneath our published story. but the ones on our social media pages as well.

"Reading through a few of the comments, I was embarrassed by my own community," said Hale."There were comments which showed no concern for Travis' and Joseph's well-being."

He adds that his publications will speak for some people in the community who can't for whatever reason. "For those of you who find yourself in this position and lack the strength to speak up for yourself, or can’t count on your community to stand up to those tearing you down, know this: I will speak up for you, I will be your voice of reason, I will help you crawl out from under that dog pile."

Yep....that's generally the way it goes with special interest groups. Feminists always circle the wagons and support whatever the leadership puts down...same with political parties. The party line always rules, no matter how stupid it may be.
