We have two Russian couples in our village that this is exactly their situation.  Both of the men are in their early twenties, brought their wives and children.

I am not surprised they came, I am wondering how it is they get to legally stay.

If they don't purchase an Ed. Visa as my young Russian couple neighbours did, or try to obtain one the legal way  ( now have moved ) should be bound for Moscow sooner than later......

my understanding is that the border run needs to happen before the visa expires, which is one year from the date of issue and not one year from date of first entry to the kingdom.

@DrJack54feel free to correct me if this is wrong.

The multi-entry 1 year OA visa. Any time you exit and enter while the visa ( sticker date ) is valid, you will be stamped in for 1 year from your arrival date, keep in mind on re- entry your permission to stay stamp will always be the date of your health insurance expiry.  You will need a re-entry permit before you leave if you are arriving after the OA visa sticker expiry date.

In fairness, Russians know they are a pariah nation now to westerners. Thailand is more or less neutral on the war, but I would guess Russians will be even more insular here than before. Even if they're anti Putin, to westerners, they are Russians, and we don't know what they are.

A Pariah nation to westerners and knowingly abuse Thai Immigration laws and the non-confrontational culture here, soon to change I would guess......

They are coming in droves. A friend in Phukets Rawaii area says they have bought up everything around him at almost double the original selling price, opened up shops, restaurants and businesses printing up Russian language signs and menus for many Thai places. He can not believe all the young families that have moved on and are planning on staying and never going back. Another friend says his Muay Thai business is full with many wanting ED visa to study for the next year.....

I think when Immigration 'wakes up' many young Russians will be sent packing........

I had to read and reread that. Still can't figure out if it is Russian corruption or Thai corruption being referred to there. From recent corruption reports I'm gonna guess Immigration police will have to leave.

I guess they ( Russians ) are staying in mass numbers then if brown bags continue to be open.....see how Big Joke handles it............
