  1. I really do not think it would be possible to build there, is there enough space?
    Hi,

I had a look again this morning :

    - The VT6 building itself is about 25 meters wide

    - There are about 12 meters between the VT6 building and the south edge of the VT6 plot

    - The plot between the VT6 one and the Siam Bay View Hotel one is a about 50-55 meters wide, ie a little wider than the actual VT6 plot !

So yes I think it would be "technically" no problem to build a VT6B there... :D

Now what I try to know is if View Tallay (or an other promoter) already get a building permit for this plot ? :o Pattaya46

    Ask City Hall.

  2. I think one of the worst things about the View Talay buildings, including VT7, is that these aesthetics-free barbarians have desecrated what should have been a vibrant architectural environment with their ugly, lazily-designed and built constructions, guaranteeing the place will look like the Bronx for years to come.

And could very easily become 'slummy'. Co-owners have kitchens on their balconies - nothing worse looking than a pot-bellied old farang in his knickers frying eggs.

The Thais do have the skills to design beautiful hi-rises - what a pity VT doesn't, they didn't even angle the windows on VT5.

  3. Is this going to be a three story condo? Thier room for 3 storys but not 4 befor vt7 reach 14 meters, but the steel rod is over 14 meters in the air.

Just a reminder that the lower level is a sunken parking garage so the height is probably less than 14 meters when measured from ground level and not the bottom of the garage. For perspective, there are 3 story buildings visible in the background and I suspect VT will go 3 stories and stop until the final court ruling. Speaking of which, does anyone know if the Court ordered MSL survey has been taken and if so when is the next court date?

ThaiBob, I think that the next court date is November 28 or something like that. This is the Rayong court date I believe, but i could be mistaken as I am basically following on what others are saying, and I don't pretend to know everything that is going on there, but after reading some of the posts and the articles attached, I, as a VT7 owner am at least seeing some chance here that this could still be built... seems that they have the support of professional opinions. Anyway, from reading the Supremem Court Amendment, it appears now that the argument may centre upon the height of the building. Fingers crossed VT7 may see the light of day yet, and my money will not be wasted away. Long way to go yet though.

Steel rods will be cut - I shouldn't think VT will leave them sticking out when they are putting finishing touches to 14 meter high building.

Am sure you will get your money back but wonder how much interest VT will pay. Is there a clause re interest in your agreement?

  4. Anybody interested in coming to a Laughter Club?

    If so, where to meet?

    When to meet?

Maybe two places: Pattaya Beach and Dongtan Beach near the Police Stations? Or centrally at Pratumak Hill Park?

  5. And if you can't find one just buy a regular chair you like and bring it down to one of the furniture factories on Thepprasit and have them make it into a rocking chair. :o

There are a couple of furniture shops near to the go kart place..Thepprasit that sell rockers

    begsaresponse

Many thanks to all for responses - will go see what I can see.

  6. "I don't think so. Across Thap Phraya Road is View Talay 2, not View Talay 5. But there is a nice piece of undeveloped land between VT 7 and VT 5. I wonder who owns it?"

    View Talay owns its!

Not clear to the exact plot of land people are referring. There is a long narrow plot directly adjacent to VT5 (south towards VT7) which would be ideal for another VT project. The official VT line is they do not own the land and the owner planned high-end homes. I don't believe it and thought like others that would be the site of buildings A and B. VT says that VT3 and VT5 were planned together and that buildings A and B are at VT3, and C and D are at VT5. I believe with costs the way they are ( and escalating) that high-density buldings (love them or hate them) are the future of this area of the beach.

High end homes wedged between hideous VTs? I think not.

By the way, recently had a meal at the Avalon Hotel (in front of VT5, beachside) and was impressed.

  7. I didn't see the interview so can't comment on the derogitoriness of it. However, I agree that downtown Pattaya will change (is already changing) and the girlie bars - and boy bars - will disappear from downtown Pattaya to a nice walled Sin City in the boonies. We might get nice spaces in the upcoming 5 star hotels where well dressed beautiful girls and boys will be allowed to sit and pick up customers - like in Singapore. But, of course, that is legal in Sigapore but still illegal here.

I'm sorry, but somehow in the 30 years I've been coming to Pattaya I somehow missed "downtown". Exactly where is it anyway? What with the increase in traffic can you still drive there? Will I know it when I see it? Is it on one of the major sois? Or all 3? Can I buy what you're using there? And.......derogitoriness......nice word.

If the President of the USA can do that to words, so can I.

  8. I didn't see the interview so can't comment on the derogitoriness of it. 9. I think if you take a more careful look at buildings built along Dongtarn and Jomtien beaches over the past twenty years, you will see that the 200 meter law was adhered to for a very long time. Jomtien Condotel, Grand Condotel, Jomtien Complex, Jomtien Plaza, Jomtien Condominium, Pattaya Park, and many others were all built more than 200 meters from the shore. Any of these buildings could have been built smack on the beach if there was no 200 meter regulation. Why weren't they?

Then came the attack of the Killer Talays: huge boring white slabs that were constructed with only one thing in mind -- monster profit. The Talays were fine when they kept their place across Thappraya Road. But then VT 5 barged in on Dongtarn Beach, clearly violating the 200 meter line. Now, VT 7 looms and blocks -- not only the views of Jomtien Complex, but also the southerly views of View Talay 5.

Soon other inappropriate and illegal buildings will follow and the quality of the Jomtien-Dongtarn seaside environmnent will be ruined forever. Just take a look at the worst parts of the Costa del Sol or Miami Beach. That will be the future here.

By the way, the current blocks of VT 5 are named "C" and "D". Where do you think "A" and "B" will be built?

I didn't know the already built cereal box and the one under construction are "C" and "D". And I didn't know that VT bought that whole block of land. If this is the case then I would think that VT is planning to build "A" and "B" right next door to "C" and "D".

Interesting to go on www.viewtalaycondo.com and look at the picture of VT7. Grand Condotel and VT5 have been erased.

  10. Thankyou BB - those were exactly the points I had on the tip of my tongue. You saved me time regurgitating the same ols reasons again and again that have been posted in this thread and others.

Just a small addition - Jomtien Plaza - The tall curved condo building just to the south accross the street from VT7 is built illegally close to the sea. Why? no one complained

The building just to the north of VT7 is of course VT5 Why - someone did complain but the frighteners were put on them. Why should someone (VT) need to put the frighteners on if they were 100% legal? Of course if VT7 is stopped then this will then not stop someone complaining against VT5. I am told a legal case has already been prepared against VT5. This must be done before the 5 year mark after completion. Hence Jomtien Plaza is safe now.

As you point out BB - just look line of sight along Pattaya bay in particular and you would be hard pushed to see a building too close to MSL. Even VT6 (I think I got the number right) is to the inch 200 meters back. Now why is this? why should VT park their concrete cornflake packet 200 meters back when there is loads of room to the beachside of their building line? I guess because it would stick out like the concrete sore thumb it is.

A previous poster asked - why did Jomtien Complex not build closer to the sea when they owned the land?

Two good reasons here. 1. They were not allowed to unless they got special permission (nudge nudge wink wink) 2. They actually did exploratory drilling and found the site was UNSUITABLE for building a tall structure. Strange how VT didn't have this problem

By whom? My co-owner contacts at Grand Condotel haven't heard anything, Surely the Committee would have informed the co-owners. But again maybe not. Grand Condo co-owners were told at the last AGM that they had no right to see the accounting books. And one of the Committee Members at Grand Condo is also on Jomthien Condotel Committee and Jomthien Condotel's accounting is displayed in the lobby every month for EVERYBODY, co-owners and visitors, to peruse. Go figure!

  11. My Lazy Boy "Rocks"! :o:D

My Lazy Boy style chair rocks also but I am now looking for a plain wood one that will take more kindly to being perhaps knocked around a bit.

Many thanks for your replies and help

  12. If the law is as you say it is then why are so many high rise condos in Pattaya built less than 200 metres away from the MSL? Surely they can't all be condemed and knocked down?

Please excuse me if somebody has already answered this. It is my understanding that anything completed in the past 5 years can be condemned and knocked down if somebody with some guts (and money) will hire a (good) lawyer and take to Admin Court. Jomtien Complex was asked if they wanted to include VT5 in their case but decided not to. And it seems the folks at Grand Condotel are a bunch of wimps. I know that one co-owner at Grand Condotel was told by the manager that it had been looked into and that the Law could be revised every 5 years so VT was within its rights to build 50 meters (100 metres?) more towards the seashore than Grand Condotel. What a load of codswallop that turned out to be.

  13. Well just to state where I stand in this grand debate.

In LOS I am far more of an observer and an amused reporter than I am a complainer.

This is little or no point in complaining if if isn't going to do any good, and as Tammi says, it might even get you shot!

When you have been coming to, and living in Thailand as long as I have, my dear Weho, you will learn that a farang complaining about service in LOS is about as effective as trying to persuade a Pattaya whore to give you money to take care of your ageing donkey back in the home country.

LOS is what it is, and while I would never say 'if you don't like it, go back to where you come from', I would suggest that you learn to accept that it is truly a third world country with no real aspirations to change to anything different. An attitude of 'live and let live' will give you far more peace of mind and happiness (to say nothing of lowering your blood pressure), than going round banging your head on anything and everything that doesn't meet your exacting western standards of service and product reliability.

Let's face it - you ain't gonna change nothin' :o

I make a big distinction between stores that cater mostly to Thais, AND the expensive, overpriced ones that cater mostly to farangs. If I'm going to pay farang/western prices, I'm going to demand farang/western service.

And the satisfaction I get from TEACHING Thais, is worth more than any perceived short-term aggrivation I may get.

    I'm a giver.

    Hear, Hear!!!!

There are many farangs who have complained on this forum about services at a particular medical establishment. I wonder if they ever complained to the Executive Director or any other head noggin there?

  14. My favorite restaurant: that's hard to answer...

I go most often to Fuji... I really like the food at the Great American Rib Joint on Tepprasit... Sizzler is always a good stand-by for me... For a splurge, the Saturday buffet at the Royal Cliff is great... or Sunday brunch at Casa Pascal is good. I wish I knew more good reasonably-priced places, but I'm always so paranoid about trying something new... I like Mike's Tacos on the way to Jomtien... I really don't have a single "favourite" restaurant... you've stumped me... I'll give you a smiley for that, cause I'm really at a loss to select one place...

I don't know White Knight, but it doesn't sound air conditioned to me... I could be wrong, but I usually am good at guessing these kinds of things...

You are right it is not air conditioned but the service is impeccable, the napery spotless, other diners usually well mannered - occassionally there can be a farang allowing his Thai male companion to paw him but one can avert one's eyes from such scenes and instead feast one's eyes on the marvellous selection of desserts. And when all is said and done we must remember 'different strokes for different folks'.

  15. There are quite a few things I feel you didn't do right. First, you acknowledged you waited... the longer you wait before complaining, the less chance of resolution.

I would have had them get the big boss from Bangkok on the phone... but really, seven months is really stretching the limit of when you should expect them to fix it, if there is no guarantee. And quite frankly, you really don't have the right to tell them "it broke after one month", then bring it in 7 months later. Regardless, I would have told the BIG BOSS that you weren't buying some schlock chair from one of those open-air mega furniture places, and you expect them to stand by what they sell... I would say "EVEN IF IT BROKE A YEAR LATER..." I would tell this boss that if they DON'T stand-by what they sell, you are going to post this story on THAI VISA, and relay it to other farangs, and tell the boss that people DO read this, and people WILL remember...

At a minimum, the next time any reader of this thread buys a chair or furniture, or maybe anything else, they will check out and compare their guarantee to other stores.

I had an office chair wheel break off, well after any warranty period... i bought a replacement pack I think at Home Pro for like 120 baht... not sure if that would have worked for you.

But I disagree... life is too short NOT to get upset... you SHOULD be angry at their stupidity in losing a customer... we all know, had they FIXED the chair, you might have been extra appreciative, and been a customer for life... and even posted a POSITIVE story here, that would help get them MORE customers.

And getting upset in a store can be entertaining... and I always enjoy the little problems more than the big obvious stuff... you should see my in action... sometimes it's pretty entertaining.

I love complainers. They make the world a better place. I can't stand people that just say, "ah, it was only 80 baht, forget it..." Those people are to blame for most of the world's misery.

Added: I just want to add that my new spinning avatar is truly annoying... I can't stand it... it's so effective!

Weho, I'm sorry to tell you this but my friends are asking if I am you!

Problem here in LOS farangs are afraid that if they complain they will get SHOT or the DOG POISONED, or the CAR SCRATCHED.

I wish I could tell you my latest complaining episode but can't. Too many people will say OMG, we suspected but now we know! About my last confrontation my friends said "You DIDN'T!!" I most certainly did and if I had not got the instant corrective response to something I paid a lot of money for I would have taken it right to the head noggin - even tho' it was the middle of the night - AND I would have reported it on TV.

As you say where would the world be without complainers!!

  16. Press the escape key and your avatar comes to a grinding halt.

Thanks for that as I was having to put one foot on the floor to read this thread.

Your puppet avatar with the A bomb in the back ground - I thought captured your personality. Now this spinning Rod Serling makes my head want to buss open. I think you are on your way to starting some mass mind control project?

I did a google on "WEHO" and lots of stuff came up. Alot of "West Hollywood" stuff.

You ever go to one of those clubs in SF where they dropped a big one on a pane of glass?

What's a big one and why on a pane of glass?? Do you really think it is possible that Weho could get us all under his control? To what end?

  17. I'm so kvelled that you changed your avatar. I like the whirlygig thing. I'm glad you changed it because I kept expecting to see ithat Korean guy who I think is not a nice gentleman at all in Fascino Pharmacy.

Do I have to ask a question? OK. What is your favourite restaurant in Pattaya -Jomthien? Have you been to the White Knight restaurant in soi VC? It is excellent value and the desserts are fantastic.

  18. As for my vacuum cleaners, well I have burnt out 2 in12 months - I couldn't tell you the brand name as they have been dumped, but they were both bought in Carrefour, and were made in China.

Perhaps being made in China is the problem. There's been a lot of bad press lately about goods made in China.

And, BTW, I won't buy made in China vegetables until I absolutely am certain that they do not use night soil (poo-poo) as fertilizer.

  19. I thank the forum moderator for letting this thread continue. I know some here have been pushing the limits here trying to get WEHO to self destruct. In the past I have been known to be most unkind in this area. By starting this thread I hope to reach some kind of atonement.

I am taking a liberty here by asking Weho to answer questions that everybody would like to ask

ASK WEHO A QUESTION AND BE CIVIL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

Goodness! Weho really must be doing God's work?

  20. Do you administer your own enemas? YES, BUT I ALSO GO TO YANHEE HOSPITAL IN BANGKOK, WHERE THEY HAVE A GREAT ENEMA DEPARTMENT.

If yes, how do you do it - what position do you assume? LAY ON FLOOR, ON SIDE, ONE LEG UP.

What fluid(s) do you use? ENEMA COFFEE, BOUGHT AT FAUSTINO PHARMACY, PATTAYA NAKLUA... IT'S ORGANIC, JUST GREAT FOR ENEMAS...

Do you have to 'hold it' for a certain time? BEST TO HOLD IT ABOUT 15 MINUTES, BUT I'VE NEVER MADE IT PAST 11 MINUTES.

How often do you have enemas? AT HOME, ABOUT ONCE EVERY TEN DAYS, ALTERNATE MONTHS IN BANGKOK.

What are the contra-indications for enemas? NOTHING FOR ME.

What are the benefits? YOU FEEL GREAT AFTER... SO CLEAN, SO PURE, SO INNOCENT. IT'S REALLY AN ENCHANGING THING TO DO. THE BENEFITS ARE STILL DEBATABLE, BUT THEY JUST GET RID OF OLD STUFF INSIDE YOU. BUT AS FAR AS THE FEELING, IT FEELS GREAT.

Do you mean the Fascino Pharmacy?

Faust - a learned and prayerful alchemist. This, I think, describes you?

    Enchanging???

But thank you for sharing this with us.

Yes, yes, yes... you're right... I meant ENCHANTING. And I think I got the pharmacy name wrong because whenever I go there, I'm kvelling so much over the prospect of new enema supplies coming in, that I just forgot the name. Odd that you didn't ask about how one lubricates the enema hose.

Perhaps 'kvell' is the wrong verb to use here? From the internet (which, of course, could be wrong and we mustn't believe everything we read and hear) kvell

is a Jewish word meaning to beam with pride and pleasure. e.g. Jewish parents are prone to kvell over their children's achievements.

Regarding lubrication of the various tubes inserted into various orifices K.Y. Jelly has been the lubrication of choice for several decades. Everybody knows that! I am sure that there are not many bedside tables that do not contain the requisite tube.
