  1. Does anyone know where Dr. Nanthedej Hiranyasthiti transferred to? I had spinal surgery at Bumrungrad Hospital a couple of years ago, and want to see him for a follow up. Bumrungrad is just saying he no longer available. I can be personally reached at <email address removed as per forum rules. Pleas send a PM>. Would certainly appreciate any information

This doctor IS available at Bumrungrad. His hours are 9am - 4pm M W T & F. Saturday he is available from 9 am to noon. I would be interested to know what surgery you had done, what you think of him, etc. He seems to be well qualified.

I got a note from Bumrungrad that he was no longer available, but in 24 hours had an appointment, so I guess it was some sort of computer error. Anyway I am glad he is there. I had surgery Dec 2005 and had excellent results, in fact too good. I took a hard fall this past June and have had some sciatic pain return. I for one can not say enough good about Dr. Nanthadej. He is very conservative and will use surgery as last resort. I told him what other surgeons had suggested here in the states. He said in many cases this is true but in my case he would not recommend it......even though the procedure was more expensive. I would never think of having back surgery without Dr. Nanthadej. I just fear that he will say "I told you to take it easy and let your body heal" ....which I did not. I felt like superman from day 1.

The whole Bumrungrad experience was incredible. I was scared to death going in there ....and it turned out to be one of the best, most pleasant experiences of my life. Think they are in the wrong business, they should be teaching all other hospitals how to operate a hospital. I don't think they can improve, they simply are the most caring, organized, efficient, clean, organization possible....and that is from the cleaning crew to the top surgeons.

I have seen some comments that they are more expensive. When it comes to your health do you really want to bargain shop? I think they deserve every penny they earn. You don't expect the best to cost the least. And in terms of cost comparisons with the United States, Europe, etc. it is still a huge bargain.

I was so concerned with Staph infection which seems to be out of control here in the states. 26 to 27% I was told. Dr. Nanthadej stated that all forms of infection at Bumrungrad in 2005 was .007% and he had never seen a staph infection in the orthopedic section. That sold me. Bruce

Unsure if I am allowed to post this but my surgery experience at Bumrungrad can be found at www.tropicalworld.com and than see link to surgery

Glad you had a good experience at Bumrungrad. But they can most certainly improve. The nurses could show a more caring attitude by doing more frequent rounds instead of being sat in front of computers; the aides could learn to take blood pressure and not zoom up and down in 1 second flat; cleaning of equipment could be better done; at night time sleeping patients should not be woken unless necessary, the whole hospital could be kept at a warmer temperature - its OK for young emplyees dashing around but not for the sick, cashiers should automatically give patients a detailed bill and large amounts should be queried, the food should come to one's room hot food hot and if one is on a liqid or soft diet one should not be given the same meal for days! Nurses should check that patients are comfortably sat up before meals are delivered and that tray is within easy reach and nurses should check what patient has eaten. The rooms are in need of refurbishment.

It is my experience that general nursing is better at BNH and food is delicious at BNH. Food at Bumrungrad is dreadful! I found BNH more expensive

The terrorists won't strike in Pattaya because this is where all of the 94 virgins live. This is the place that they come after they blow themselves up at the shopping mall, supermarket, coffee shop or other crowded place. So, no need to worry as this is the terrorist's heaven, their final reward for their good deeds.

    :bah::o;)

  3. the best dentist i have ever known anywhere in the world is Katy at Dental corner in Siracha, very close to the shopping centre. its half the price of pattaya and she is fantastic. i swear to you i fall asleep whilst she is working.

If I may ask, what work has Katy done on your teeth?

  4. I am not promoting this product, only informing that it is available in Thailand. Amway sell a rotating table that works by body weight alone. You adjust the table for your correct height, strap your legs/feet into the device and by using your arms as a counter-balance the device will rotate and suspend you by your feet. The weight of your body will do the rest and gently extend your spine.

    post-6507-1194971634_thumb.jpg

How about just hanging yourself on a door or doing the door knob trick?

  5. I have two herniated discs in my lower back and have received physical therapy/pain drugs from Bumrungrad for over a year with little to no relief. Any relief I have had from the pain has been very short-lived.

I noticed an ad running in Bangkok Post for SDRC (disc-rehab.com) that boasts a very high success rate with treatment that is non-surgical and pain and drug-free.

Has anyone been treated there or heard of anyone being treated there. Obviously I would consider this option before surgery and so am interested in any experience someone may have had with them. :o

I also have two herniated discs near the base of my spine, S1 & S2 as I recall - I know I have these because I suffered extreme pain for many months and I have seen the MRI which quite clearly shows they are prolapsed. I agreed to a disectomy (sp) and waited in pain for the date of the operation to come around. Three days before the operation a chiropractor friend of mine called me and I told him about my back. His response was to say, whatever you do don't have the op simply because you cannot un operate. He gave me the number of a chiropractor near my home and I walked into his office bent over and in agony. Forty five minutes later I walked out upright and free of pain - some ten sessions later I have never needed to go back to see him (although I do so periodically to check on my posture and alignment) and I have never had a problem with my back ever since - that was seventeen years ago!

I now see a chiropractor where ever I chose to live and am a firm believer. Most recently my chiro in Phuket Town was instrumental in relieving pain as a result of a frozen shoulder.

If you chose not to or can't see a chiro, try the following tips: nose over toes when rising from a sitting position. When rising from a prone position, do so from your side, not from your back. Avoid rotation of the torso. Good luck

A good chiropracter is worth his weight in gold. 7 years ago I could climb stairs with extreme difficulty and walking on the flat was even a problem. Then there appeared in Pattaya and Jomthien a chiropracter from Alberta, Canada. It took a few sessions but he sorted things out and I've had no problem since. Too bad he went back to Alberta. Are there any good chiros is Thailand besides the one in Phuket who, I've heard, folks like?

  6. SAMPAM - who at the Bumrungrad do you think is the most qualified and experienced surgeon who performs surgery on deviated septums and doing repairs to previous rhinoplasties?

A friend of mine who wants to travel to Thailand has had 3 previous rhinoplasties (not in Thailand) have resulted in a crooked nose (deviated septum) which leans more to the right and quite noticable, leaving her with one nostril that she can't breathe out of, and a tip that is hooked. She's been told that she will need a specialist in Otolaryngology as they would be more suited to what she requires. She is adamant about going to the Bumrungrad but if there are any other specialised surgeons elsewhere, I'll pass on the information onto her.

Any advice and thoughts would be appreciated :o

I would only recommend 1 surgeon for such a complicated case and he isnt at bumrungrad so youll need to convince your friend to suck it up and go to the best surgeon rather than a fancy hospital.

Somyos Kunachak is exactly what shes looking for. Hes head of Otolaryngology at major hospital and professor. Also US board certified in facial plastic surgery. Hes who you want for such a complicated case.

At bumrungrad you could try Amorn Poomee but id be very surprised if he accepts then theres also Witoon at bumrungrad too. If it was my choice Id definately go somyos for such a complicated case.

Why do you think Amorn Poomee would probably not accept the case?

  7. I think the Fascino discount card is 5%.

Ask Fascino if they can order your medicines but I have found that they, for whatever reason, are not able to get hold of everything. If you are taking expensive drugs long term or even short term you might be able to order direct from companies such as Siam Pharmaceuticals and DKSH. If you are on a course of drugs that are very expensive at the hospital ask the doctor which pharmaceutical company you can order from.

For those of you who attend Bumrungrad Hospital you have perhaps noticed delivery men bringing in white cool boxes - these are drugs for patients who are seeing their doctors in OPD.

Not all the counter staff at Fascino are clued in. If I don't get the answer I want I ask to speak with Manee.

  8. All the surgeons can do the procedures under local with sedation or general anesthetia. Just depends on how complicated your procedure is and how long it would take.

Most nose jobs of your nature will only take 30-60mins max and hence sedation+local is all you need. Which also means that it would be cheaper if done under local because they and you wont have to pay for the anesthesialogist. Ignore all prices that are given on websites because they are not accurate in this sense. GO AND SEE THE SURGEONS AND GET QUOTES.

Poomee usually charges slightly less at his clinic than at bumrungrad. Somyos does it all at his clinic.

Not many issues etc that can arise from nose jobs and definately not from something as simple as yours. You dont need to be in hospital if its only a local procedure and so simple.

Hahahaha ignore the google message. youll be fine.

My goodness, you write as though you know me. ??????????? I thought my identity on ThaiVisa was only known to me! For all you SHOULD know I might have the most horrible conker needing all sorts of adjustment and remodelling

  9. this is something i know about... why not do it yourself... if you have an mp3 player, which has a "line in", just connect a cord FROM your cassette player output, into that "line in"... you'll get a perfect copy... then, MOVE the file from your mp3 player, onto your computer... then use any simply converter program to convert the file FROM your mp3 player, which takes about a minute per file to convert. i think on the mp3 layer, the files are usually saved as something like "aac", but you'll want to convert them TO mp3 file format, which you can then easily burn onto cd's in minutes.

There is a german shop, somewhere near Naklua that does these converstions, but it's expensive... it will easily pay for a brand new mp3 player, with "line in" for you.

I hope the music on your cassettes isn't like bad euro/techno/trance type music, that I hate.

I too have tapes I would like to put on CDs but not being technically minded Weho's first paragraph is unintelligible to me.

Where is a shop who can do it for me?

Sweetheart, my description was perfect... you should embrace it, rather than reject what you don't understand... it's a gift from an angel, that you have rejected... in your defense, at least you had the courage to admit you don't know anything about anything. Bravo.

Darling, I never admitted to not knowing anything about anything. I know lots and lots of things, in fact I am constantly surprised at how much I know.

BTW, I referred a ThaiVisa poster to you re colonic irrigation.

  10. There's a spine center at Bangkok Nuring Home Hospital. www.bnhhospital.com. Gives itself a good write up.

    "BNH Spine Centre

The BNH SPINE CENTRE is the first comprehensive spine treatment centre in Thailand with a highly qualified team of physicians who specialize in spine treatment. It offers the highest standards of medical care, and its team of specialists is acknowledged for their expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of spine conditions, including using state-of-the-art technology for effective treatment of spinal ailments."

You might like to give it a whirl. If you do I would be interested in feedback.

  11. yes he is.

    http://www.pai.co.th/

    http://www.bnhhospital.com/

Click on medical service then go to bottom and click next and then youll see Preecha Aesthetic Institute he owns it all.

If you want him to do things make sure you request him and make sure its understood you want him doing it.

    Thank you, got it.

The Institute is on Floor 7 of BNH. Web site says Preecha might do under general anaesthetic, might do under local. One night stay in hospital and stay in BKK for 7 days. How does one know if Preecha is doing the op? One can be conked out pretty quickly even with so- called local anaesthetic -at least that's my experience.

There is no price given for procedure under local anaesthetic. Under general anaesthetic price is USD 4,300 = Baht 146,200.

Somyas only does at Yoskarn Clinic - yes? Web site says intravenous sedation and can go home same day a few hours after surgery. No info given re cost.

Amorn Poomee web site says will do under local or general depending on work to be done and what patient and surgeon prefer. If local usually lightly sedated and nose and surrounds numbed. One is awake during surgery. Presumably he would do either at Bumrungrad or at his own clinic.

    No info given re cost.

Who to go with? I guess it all depends on what one can afford and if one would prefer to be in hospital for a night or more. Wonder what the incidence is of serious haemorrage?

  12. easy go to Doctor Greechart at YANHEE or PREECHA at BNH or SOMYOS KUNACHUK at Yoskarn clinic

Appreciate the suggestions. Will try to locate contact data on web/google.

Was hoping someone had a recommendation based on an actual recent (good) experience of a thai nose job with a surgeon.

Plenty of thai people go to those surgeons I mentioned and though in my case Im not thai but still asian which means suspecitible to the same procedures. I went with preecha.

I know you have done some research on the subject - how would you rate dr witoon against these names for a nose job?

Dr witoon is also well known.

Ultimately you will have to go and see a few doctors see what they all recommend specifically what procedures will they carry out and how will they do it

go to Yanhee and see Greechart or another rhino specialist and then go to Poomee at bumrungrad then go to Preecha at BNH, go to Witoon and go to Somyos kunachak too.

See what they say and how they will do it and what are the expected results. Try and see photos if possible though might be difficult since they need patients permission. Then choose the doctor you feel most comfortable with and price.

I went to all of them and ended up with Dr Preecha though I could easily have gone Somyos only due to the difference in price of 30000THB more with Somyos though method and procedure sounded identical.

There's no Preecha listed at BNH. ????????

Does anyone have experience of Amorn Poomee for nose job?

  13. I have a retirement visa. I am hoping to get to know this beautiful country and intend to travel to various provinces. Do I have to check in at Immigration and/or police whenever I enter a new province where I will stay for over 24 hours? If I stay at a commercial estblishment will it do the notification to Immigartion and/or police? If I accept an invitation to stay with friends in Bangkok for more than 24 hours do I really have to go sit in Immigration for half a day to tell them and then go to police to tell them?

  14. I saw my sis-in-law, a nurse, turn her child upside down and and whack the child's back. But the child was still small enough to turn upside down.

I also saw this same sis-in-law follow my father when he quietly got up from the dinner table and go out of the room. She realized he was in trouble with food stuck in his throat.

    Good lady to have around!

Thank you for asking. Yes, she sorted out both patients. Taught me a couple of lessons: 1, properly chew small amounts of food especially. for some reasom or other, spinach and cabbage (!) and 2, be aware that someone who gets up from the table and does't look relaxed/comfortable/cheerful might be having a problem.

  16. If I use my Pattaya Kasikorn card in BKK I pay 20 baht to withdraw 20,000. If I use Bangkok Bank in BKK I pay up to 38 baht to withdraw 25,000.

In Pattaya I don't pay to withdraw from Kasikorn ATMs but am pretty sure I pay all other banks. So its good that there's now so many Kasikorn ATMs in Pattaya. It's an excellent bank - have been using it for over 20 years without a problem.

  17. I saw my sis-in-law, a nurse, turn her child upside down and and whack the child's back. But the child was still small enough to turn upside down.

  18. Question... how can you scratch a Jet ski except by hitting another guy out there?

The way you solve something like this is pretty simple. Call the newspapers! (Pattaya Today, Pattaya Mail or even better Pattaya People who also have a TV station).

Get a journalist out there and tell them to follow you when you go to the police station, I promise that you have never been treated so polite and nice and lawfully correct.

Pattaya cops are dirty and corrupt and they do NOT want to lose face in front of the flashing cameras.

Our newspapers wouldn't get involved in something like this - too dangerous.

    I don't believe the 80,000 baht either.
