  1. Overland crossing from Chiang Saen? Didn't know it existed
  2. James, Your comments about royalties is very interesting. I'm a Yank so I know nothing. All I know is that BOI wants you to show "passive" income not "earned" income {salary, wages}. I do not know how the UK classifies royalties. In the end it isn't even important what you or even the UK Government says, it's how the BOI interprets it. You can be absolutely correct but if the BOI doesn't agree then you're sol. Also I'm not sure why they ask for tax returns. To my knowledge none of the requirements say you have to show taxes paid. There's a lot of very wealthy people in the US who don't pay any taxes. Based on your age I assume you have qualifying health insurance. If not you should probably be able to get it. That's a stumbling block for many applicant (ie older ones 70+).
  3. You're the one who was unable to read the website correctly. End of discussion.
  4. Absolutely you have to qualify just like any other visa. Call it a "processing fee" if you want. What's your problem with that. Best retirement visa available. Thinking maybe you don't qualify.
  5. Haven't you listened to the powers that be. There are none in the land of hubs. Or else don't look underground, just go to Pattaya.
  6. Lost Nomad, one additional thing. When submitting your entry stamps after arrival also include the biodata page of your passport (again).
  7. It's on the very first page of the website under "Application Process Overview", see #3. Maybe they took my 50,000 baht and gave me a fake LTR Visa!
  8. Correct. I think you're good to go. One point: I think you probably have already informed them you plan to use the BOI location/office. You're required to do that earlier in the application or you wouldn't have gotten as far as you have. Have to tell them you plan on getting it at BOI office in Bangkok or evisa from embassy/consulate in US. But still required to go to embassy/consulate in person. Go to BOI office in Bangkok, they're great.
  9. My experience is almost identical to yours. Applied while in US and received "qualification endorsement" and to upload additional documents. What additional docs? Thought I should be able to schedule my appointment but no instructions on how to do so. I contacted them and they were very clear on the next steps. Can't get appointment unless you're in Thailand. So you arrive in Thailand visa exempt get your 30 day stamp. Then send 30 day stamp to them by email (not the application website) That is the "additional documents" they refer to and confirmed the 60 days start when they receive that. Then on the application website the "schedule application" appears. Went very smooth and last week received my LTR. Good luck.
  10. Guess the US is different than Thailand. I also got green card called Thai LTR Visa. Your US green card will not last forever. Have to renew after 10 years.
  11. If you did a little research you would know that no you do not require 800,00 or 400,000. Just 50,000 baht for ten years. Yes you have to pay cash not pay some agent to put the money in the account for you.
  12. Doesn't even have to be only pension. Can be combination of Interest, dividend, capital gains, IRA, etc. Any "passive" income. And to jimgilly do your own research at ltr.boi.go.th for requirements.
  13. Actually you did say your 1099R showed salary not pension. I'm sure it was a simple misstatement. But that's cool we both got our LTR. Chokdee
  14. I'm thinking there might be a lot of Thai Privilege (Elite) holders looking to sell and get LTR (if they meet requirements) as it is much better and cheaper than TPC. Especially if you don't golf or need airport transfers or hand holding through immigration. I understand when they got TPC the LTR wasn't available.
  15. DrJack, how many rogue offices are there. Which ones are they. Nice to know.
  16. I agree they were helpful. I gave both 1040's (2 years) and 1099R's (3 years). Not to beat a dead horse but I think your 1099R reflects your pension (passive) not salary. If you're retired don't think you receive a "salary".
  17. Just received my LTR this week. No suit and tie. Just think they don't want you to show up in baggies, flip flops and tank top. Trousers and decent shirt will do the trick.
  18. Thought you were heading back to Germany for good. Seems like you're trying to stay in Thailand without proper visa.
  19. I agree they like 1099R's, but 1099R's have nothing to do with salary paid (think that is W2's). 1099R's are for passive income which is what BOI wants.
  20. Exactly. Seems to almost identical to LTR Visa.
  21. Hard to say. In the past I have gotten a METV evisa in consecutive years but with at least six months between. 1 or 2 I don't know. May just depend on the Embassy/Consulate and how the guy is feeling that day. It's worth a try in my opinion. All they can do is say no. Then on to plan B.
